Just what is goin’ on in the world? SMH. This young lady was trying to exit this violent relationship before it got any worse and this guy went into a rage.
A Platte City man was sentenced to five years in prison after he inflicted serious injuries on his girlfriend by burning her with a hair iron.
Russell J. Duncan, 23, was sentenced Thursday in Platte County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to first degree domestic assault.
“The victim in this case made the decision to get out of a bad relationship with the defendant,” said Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd. “Rather than let her go, he took a hair straightening iron and clamped it on this young lady’s leg.”
Duncan admitted he argued with his girlfriend over her plan to move out of his house, Zahnd said. The argument escalated, and he pushed her into a closet and choked her.
The assault left the young woman with second- and third-degree burns.
Duncan will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his five year sentence before he is eligible for parole.
More and more these days, it seems people are losing the ability to rationalize and use violence as a means to communicate. We’re starting to wonder if anger management should be mandatory.
