I think he knew Bush was lying but tried to tow the party line until he couldn’t look at himself in the mirror. A human can never be a Messiah. Obama is however a charismatic, intelligent, man who offers promise for America. I think Powell felt disrespected by the Bush administration and that’s why he stepped down. He is a smart respectable man who commanded the military in war time and Bush didn’t listen to his advice on the Iraq war. He is also a prisoner of his own party; here’s a man that has all the qualifications to be a presidential candidate-leadership ability, intelligence, hands on military experience, even temperament—and he would never recieve a republican nomination because his color presents a fundamental conflict with far right republican politics.

After I left the theatre, me and my best friend went to the Mall. I ended up in Waldenbooks and bought a book titled “Somebody’s Someone” by Regina Louise. I started it last evening and finished just after 4 this morning.

It was THAT intense!!

@Sydney- Excellent post about Colin and Barack…I disagree with one thing you said though, if Barack pulls this off, he will be the closest thing to a Messiah, that we’ll ever have. They took Martin and Malcolm. If he pulls if off, which I believe he will, he will make this country and world a MUCH BETTER PLACE..FOR ALL OF US- WHITE, BLACK, GREEN,PURPLE, POLKA-DOTS–He’s extremely educated and down to earth. He is the finest that America has to offer. @ Daywalker- They are looking for new conepts at General Motors/ Chrysler- design and marketing for new concept vehicles and new ways to improve the economy…My mom used to work for GM, for 31 years as a specifications analyst, they are hiring firms like yours–to come with ANY new ideas / concepts…It might be worth your while to check them out. They have a supplier program for people that are interested in selling them goods or services, when you said mechanical engineering, I immediately thought of you, doing some pretty large scale work…I will give you the email for Purchasing, when I talk with my mom later, that could be a major client for you..She’s on the east coast and is at Church right now, I will have the information by later tonight. If you decide on the Lasagna, here’s a suggestion–

Do not completely cover the pan with aluminum foil! (this will cause it to sometimes turn into a heap instead of cut pieces that don’t run)

Take one piece, fold it in half and cover across the center of the casserole. The foil positioned along the center will distribute the heat along the egdes to cook evenly.

Wait until it’s completely cooled before cutting.

Sloppy Lasagna is not your friend when cooking for a lady!

I’ve read hundreds of books but I’ve never read one like that. This young lady was a child that was considered “too light” for the likings of her caregivers and her family but too dark for others. She’s considered pretty and that alone warranted unwanted attention from her familyy (If you know what I mean).

With the exception of being in foster care, I can relate to the fear of nonacceptance because of her beauty and color.

I’m not trying to sound crass but I realized (like her) at a young age that we are discriminated against because of what society deems “beaufitul!”

I pray that Mykel will grow up to understand that she may have advantages and disadvantages because of her looks. I also pray that her self esteem sustains her to do what’s right and not be a follower seeking acceptance!

I thought Palin did OK (but I thought she looked a little uncomfortable — Fey did a great impression of her as usual in the skit news conference). You have to see the Alaska rap that Amy Poehler did during the Weekend Update segment. It was hilarious. They even had a guy in a moose suit. The video should be on YouTube.

But I don’t think anything tops the Crazy Lady at the McCain Rally skit on SNL this week. I’ve watched that video repeatedly and crack up every time. It’s that funny.

Can I say that I despise both of the below characters, Limbaugh and Buchanan? This is from The Huffington Post — some conservatives are saying that race is the reason why Powell endorsed Obama:

The most crass interpretation came from talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, who wrote the Politico’s Jonathan Martin the following:

He and three other soldiers, including a corporal from Washington Heights, were killed in Baquba after a bomb detonated while they were checking abandoned houses for explosives. They served in the Stryker Brigade combat team of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, based in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Mr. Khan graduated from Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin in 2005, and enlisted in the Army a few months later, spurred by his memories of the 9/11 terror attacks. “His Muslim faith did not make him not want to go. Regardless if it was bad intel or not, Powell was on the same side as Bush at one time, and being that he was a General at one point, I think he should have went out of his way to ensure the intel was correct..Could Colin Powell be just that dumb as a Four Star General to read a lie to the world he knew that he couldnt back…? Knowing that we are stll in Iraq off of a lie makes it even worse, and it is plain wrong…

I urge you to read more about Powell’s role in the war in Iraq before you rush to such judgments. He did not know at the time that he had received faulty intel, and it was a very heavy, strained moment in his career from which I don’t believe he has ever fully recovered. It was ugly the way Powell left the Bush administration, and, to me, yesterday was his moment to talk about some issues he has had in his heart with the Republican party and with the Bush administration. In effect, he has severed his ties with many in the party, and the backlash has only just begun. He, not McCain, put his party affiliation aside yesterday and put his country first.

The below excerpts are from an article in today’s Washington Post, FYI:

Still reviled by some Democrats for his support of the Iraq war, Powell did not oppose the 2003 decision to invade the country. But inside the administration, and in public after leaving office, he was sharply critical of the conduct of the occupation. He has said that his February 2003 United Nations speech on Iraq’s supposed weapons of mass destruction was based on faulty intelligence and remains a “blot” on his record.

Since his departure from government in January 2005, however, Powell has regained much of the stature he held before joining the Bush administration; he remains highly respected at home and abroad as a foreign policy “pragmatist” and political centrist. His stamp of approval is likely to improve Obama’s already favorable chances in once-reliable Republican states such as Virginia, and with the military community.

I am glad he had survived Vietnam to make it to where he has, and I do not doubt that he is intellgent, but I have the right to be critical as well.. For a man of his stature, and influence I beleive that when you have power, responsibility is of the utmost importance….As a man who was a Four Star General he has no excuse…
