White Republicans: Powell Endorsed Obama Just Because He’s Black

Rush Limbaugh and a slew of other conservatives dismissed Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama as race loyalty:

“Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,” Limbaugh wrote. “OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

“I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star and secretary of state and appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let’s hear it for transformational figures.”

Powell said this morning that if this had been about race he would have endorsed Obama last year, as opposed to giving Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., campaign contributions. It was about the campaigns Obama and McCain have been waging, Powell said, and the candidates they have become.

No its because Obama is the best!

  • B’More

and they endorse mccain because he’s white, so what’s the difference?

  • B’More

    barbara walters said it herself

“us white people will take care of you”.

white republicans do the same damn thing, so they need to go somewhere with that.

  • http://www.gravatar.com Re (MADVILLIANY…I heart Dangerdoom)

LOL! Why doesn’t Rush Limbaugh say that black people are voting for Obama because of race loyalty?

Why doesn’t he also say that white people are voting for McCain because of race loyalty?

Both of the above statements are true, and it doesn’t matter…because CLEARLY Obama is a qualified candidate and we can choose to vote for whomever we want. Who is Limbaugh (and others) to go around questioning our decisions?

Or is it cause Powell slapped the repubs in the face with his decisions? It stings, doesn’t it?

  • Sylvia

Powell’s answer this morning says it all…no discussion needed

Hey! Rush Limbaugh I got four words for ya. Hi Hater Hi Hater.

I KNEW IT!! THEY WAS GOING TO HAVE SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO SAY BECAUSE THE MAN MADE THE RIGHT DECISSION> TIME FOR McCAIN TO CASH IT IN AND TAKE AN EARLY VACATION!! WE DON”T NEED AN UNDERDOG AS PRESIDENT ANYWAY!!!

They honestly need to GTFOH with that madness. I am glad some of these people are starting to show their true colors during this campaign. Shady white people have been pulling these political tricks for decades. They need to step off or get with program. The times are aaa-changing and they are going to get left in the past like the South following the Civil War.

  • Sara

White repulicans (white people in general) make me sick. If this endorsement doesn’t change undecided voters minds, then nothing else will. Gen. Powell is a respected REBULICAN who is disgusted by his own affiliation and has clearly advised that Palin is not experienced enough for VP. It has nothing to do with race – you can watch the debates blind-folded and clearly recognize that Obama is the right person to serve as the president of the US.

    OBAMA/BIDEN 08

  • Aunt Viv

Colin Powell is a smart man and didn’t need race to make an informed decision. He chose Obama because he was the more qualified candidate in his opinion. End of discussion.

White republicans are just shook, that’s all.

  • Katherine

Colin Powell is a man of integrity..it takes a lot of courage to go against your politcal party because of stupid ish like this

there is a huge difference between endorsing someone because they’re black and endorsing someone because they’re black AND qualified..Barack is the second, but i dont think that’s why Powell endorsed him, he’s right the McCain campaign has become so hateful, they’re like KKK rallies

We starting voting in Florida today and the polls in South Florida are packed with BLACKS!!! WOO HOOO!!!

  • michelle

Why is it that whenever someone is black that’s endorsing Obama it has to be bc he’s black? Where was this outcry when the Kennedy’s endorsed him??

And for yt people to say that we’re voting for him bc of the color of his skin all i got to say is that black folks have been voting DEMOCRATS since they were able to vote which were mainly yt DEMOCRATS. This time around it just happens to be a black man running now what!!! YES WE CAN AND YES WE WILL!!!!

  • Exxon300

Crakers endorse other Crakers everyday. In less than three weeks your Commander and Chief will be a Black man, that is what they are fretting about. White racist are worried that all the injustices they committed against us, will come back on them.

  • http://www.gravatar.com Re (MADVILLIANY…I heart Dangerdoom)

Yes, there are people voting for Obama cause he’s black. And there are white people voting for McCain because he’s white.

Why can’t we vote for a black president if we’re proud enough to finally see a potential black candidate in our lifetime? We’ve voted for a white president for a LONG time…now we finally have a choice.

  • CHAZ’

So if he is voting for Obama because he is black is it safe to say that all the high class republicans that are knocking him are voting for McCain because he is white?

  • thatbrutha

Colin and Obama are black? WTF

  • Anonymous3 – the fire sign

what does Obama’s race have anything to do with it???? Republicans and Dems alike know that McCain is a sorry candidate for the Republican party but rather than admit that, they throw race into the mix everytime so that they won’t have to accept that Barack is the better candidate

  • http://www.gravatar.com Re (MADVILLIANY…I heart Dangerdoom)

WHAT A TERRIBLE THING TO SAY. If you’re pinning this guy and you all are a FAIR and efficient cabinet, then you should be awarding him because he was qualified and deserving of it. Does he OWE is to them to kiss their feet because of something he earned and worked hard for? As you climb higher in the ranks it takes longer to move up…so he damn sure must’ve done something right.

  • Bahamas/Chicago/Cayman Girl

To make them feel better about themselves and to do damage control they had to relegate it to a race loyalty!! If they were asute enough to actually watch the interview he outline why he was voting for Obama, because McCain lacked a steady vision and the negative ads and the choice of Gov. Palin as a running mate disqualified grandpa as a viable candidate!! Ofcourse they heard none of that!!

  • CAndy

It’s so typical for these republicans to just blame it on race. They need to look at their party and the terrible campaign they’ve been running and figure out why someone from there owns party is no longer for them. I watched Mr. Powell on Meet the Press and he gave several legitimate reasons for picking Obama, its obvious race had nothing to do with it.

  • em

now who’s playing the race card? who is he supposed to be anyway?

  • realwoman

They are so damn stupid with this….they know damn well that if the republican presidential candidate was a uncle tom like ALLEN KEYES Black people would not vote for him! THEY’VE ALREADY TRIED THAT.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly are getting a double whammy because the forerunner is not only a DEMOCRAT but a half BLACK ONE at that.

  • Shann934

He kept it real because he knows Obama is the man. I was soooo happy to see this. For Colin Powell to endorse Obama is serious. This is huge and I am glad he stoop up and said it loud and proud. He didn’t stay in the closet about it. I respect this man on a whole new level because knows what he is about to face from his rascist repulican party.

PLEASE VOTE PEOPLE SO WE CAN MAKE THESE RASCIST PEOPLE MAD AS HELL!!!!! I already voted and I stayed in line for 40min and that was almost three weeks ago. Go early to beat the lines because the wait is getting longer and longer each week. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PEOPLE GO AND VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.barackobama.com ☆ Lola A♏ ★

*sigh* I knew they were going to say this. I’ll just be glad when Nov. 4 comes.

Yes We Can, but only with every vote! Be prepared for long lines and plan accordingly, but please vote.

  • CAndy

Also, he kicked himself in the head by choosing Palin as his VP, poor lack of judgement.

  • realwoman

Also why didn’t they claim that the endorsement from Lieberman was racially motivated? After all he endorsed Republicans after being a Democrat for how long?????

  • chaka1

The Republicans really aren’t happy with their ticket and are being forced dragging and kicking to the polls.

This is the first election where I have seen Black, White, Jewish, Asian, Young, Gay and Hispanic people camping out overnight and running to the polls.

The GOP is continuing to run these Obama paling around with terrorists ads on TV. No one is paying attention.

Barack and Michelle are coming to downtown Miami on Friday and we are so excited. We are going pack the park!!!!

he hurt them bad with that endorsement. Condi will be next to endorse Obama wait and see.

    WRONG!!!

He gave a THROUGH explanation yesterday Morning on “Meet The Press” (R.I.P Tim Russert) as to the reasons why he’s voting for Barack Obama and not John McCain (*Even though he’s known McCain for 25 years) and they are as follows:

    *Note – He’s a republican

    (1) He doesn’t like the direction that the republican party is/has taken in the recent years and that is more to the right (conservative) than he likes…

    (2) He doesn’t like McCain’s constant change in decisions with respects to how he’s going to handle America’s current economic crisis and problems facing us Americans…

    (3) McCain choosing Gov. Sarah Palin, because after watching her for the past 7 weeks she’s shown that she’s not ready to become president…

    (4) McCain campaign chosing to focus on issues not central to the American people but on unimportant things like the Bill Ayers which has become a “central” point of the their campaign?

    (5) He (Colin Powell) would have issues with the appointing of 2 more conservative judges to the Supreme Court

    (6) Members of the republican party (even Senior members) suggesting that Obama is Muslim… And Powell was like = What if he is? Is there something the matter with being Muslim in this country?

  • http://www.gravatar.com Re (MADVILLIANY…I heart Dangerdoom)

He said we have 2 individuals that would be good presidents’but that Barack Obama is the one we need now because:

    - of his judgement making abilities and his approach to difficult problems

Why can’t people just accept the damn facts!!!

Regardless if Obama is your candidate or not Colin Powell is a well respected Republican who both Black and White Conservative Republicans have admired FOR YEARS. Many White Republicans have cooed that the man should run for President himself! People have been trusting this mans word and judgment for decades! You expect me to believe that after YEARS of honorable service, DECADES of building a name for himself and a LIFETIME of earning peoples respect and integrity he’s squandering that by basing his decisions on race? You expect me to believe that in the year 2008 he’s gone off the deep end because he endorsed a candidate who, according to polls, is highly supported by the people of this country!

Those in denial about this endorsement need to GET OVER THEMSELVES! Ignorance is so rife within this primary season.

I’m convinced that if Jesus Christ himself parted the clouds, came down and endorsed Obama… Conservative Christian Bible Belt Republicans would STILL find a way to rationalize their own agenda!

As for Limbaugh, who’s an unrepentant (blank) and has been for years, his acerbic comments are no surprise. Pat Buchanan also said on The Chris Matthews Show yesterday that Powell displayed “ingratitude.” His statements oozed with the customary sense of “white entitlement” that Powell obviously offended with his Obama endorsement. He tried to make Powell, whose career is distinguished and highly respected around the world, look like an affirmative action hire.

I think Powell’s remarks yesterday in which he critiqued not only McCain’s campaign tactics but also the Republican party as a whole caught many white Republicans off guard and they’re lashing back and pulling out the handy “race card” is just one of their disingenuous tools to try to discredit him. Powell is too smart a man to put his name — and his reputation — behind a presidential candidate because he happens to share the same skin tone as him. He laid out his reasons clearly, concisely, and powerfully yesterday.

    *****PLEASE READ*****

I gotta bust most of you Obama supporters bubble because things won’t change for the better just by voting for him and maybe putting him in office. Hell, he might not even win this one. I agree he’s better than McCain but he was forced to link with shady groups/people (CFR, Trilateral Commission, Bilderberg) just to get to where he is today!!!

To see what Obama’s interests are and where his loyalty lies all you have to do is go to youtube and type in ‘Obama at AIPAC.’ You’ll see plenty of kowtowing to Israeli interests (othawise known as asskissing).

Also do a search on Obama and Zbigniew Brzezinski and you’ll see the truly scary association that Obama has (don’t worry about the truth-telling Rev. Wright or William Ayers).

Sorry people but the two party system is truly corrupt since both parties are financed by the same criminals and special interest groups. This particular era was carved out for the democrats after the Republicans have been at the helm for the past 8 years so they (GOP) threw out a fall guy (McCain, who still could possibly win) while they’re grooming a new, more likeable candidate (possibly Mike Huckabee) for the next election. In the meantime, Obama will be the shining face of the easy to fool ignorant American people all while ushering in the North American Union, the Amero, possible war with Afghanistan (which will be a front for pipelines through Kazak, Iran, Syria, Pakistan and Russia, more joblessness due to all the manufacturing contracts over in China or other foreign countries where there is cheap labor. Not to mention no changes or even A MENTION of changing the Central Banking System which is the key to unlock most of our problems.

Don’t wanna blame Obama for this mess but he likely isn’t the answer or even close to it. If Obama was to get in office and change the existing plan of the elites HE WOULD BE OUTTA THERE!

    So I ask…Who’s down for a revolution????

    More later…

    @Redd

I already did check your post — now you do your part and visit nytimes(dot)com and do a search for a recent article of Andy Martin, the guy behind the whisper campaign about Obama.

    Below is an excerpt:

Ms. Allen said Mr. Martin’s original work found amplification in 2006, when a man named Ted Sampley wrote an article painting Mr. Obama as a secret practitioner of Islam. Quoting liberally from Mr. Martin, the article circulated on the Internet, and its contents eventually found their way into various e-mail messages, particularly an added claim that Mr. Obama had attended “Jakarta’s Muslim Wahhabi schools. Wahhabism is the radical teaching that created the Muslim terrorists who are now waging jihad on the rest of the world.”

Mr. Obama for two years attended a Catholic school in Indonesia, where he was taught about the Bible, he wrote in “Dreams From My Father,” and for two years went to an Indonesian public school open to all religions, where he was taught about the Koran.

Mr. Sampley, coincidentally, is a Vietnam veteran and longtime opponent of Mr. McCain and Senator John Kerry, both of whom he accused of ignoring his claims that American prisoners were left behind in Vietnam. @ Jaye: I like the comment that you made!

What a BS statement. The only reason why they’ve done sh#t for years is because of race. I could go on and on, but everyone has pretty much covered all the bases on this one.

My question is this though…why vote for someone just because that’s the party you’ve aligned yourself with? You mean to tell me the best man qualified for the job is Democrat, but just because you vote or consider yourself Republican you still vote Republican. People kill me with that. If in fact McCain was the best man for the job I’d vote for him because he’s that, best man for the job.

But that’s not the case here. Most of White America have endorsed Obama because he’s that fresh set of eyes, and that ray of hope that everyone is talking about. That something new that’s different than what we’ve been through for the last 8 years….

The GOP and their hackers are all full of shyt. I honestly did not see the outcry from the Dems when Lieberman publicly endorsed McCain and I knew this was going to happen with Powell. In all honesty, I have always respected Powell because he was independent enough in his thinking/beliefs to break away from W. when he felt that he was no longer a part of what he thought he had signed on for.

I mean, the man could not have broken it down any more than how he did to explain his reasons for backing Obama. Why does it always have to come down to the “racecard” for the GOP when it comes to Obama????

This is exactly why they have their foots in their mouth, because they can not comprehend that right now, the country is not in a state where they’re listening to the same petty bullshyt that they’ve been slinging the last decade. This is why McCain just keeps losing points in the polls.

Man…get your damn facts straight. Wahhabism, sometimes called Salafism or the people of the Salaf, is not at all that radical form of Islam you’re talking about. Wahhabism is a distorted form of Orthodox Islam, that differs from the real orthodox Islam or the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamma’or the Sunni Muslims. It comes down to belief, and practice and has nothing to to with radical Muslims. I don’t know about the other BS you’re talking about, but get your damn facts straight. Most people like you read one or two article from a well-known media outlet, and then you parrot this sh%t out the side of your necks like the sh*t is law. You need to dig deeper. If I want to learn about black history I damn sure won’t accept everything from the Indiana Public School System where I grew up. I’d go to someone credible, “Black Historians” and see what they’re talkin’bout. Bet their stories are different…

Colin Powell made it quite clear why he has misgivings about the direction the Republican party, his party, has taken of late. It is about the inclusiveness and unity that is need to move our country forward through these perilous times. His opinion has such weight because he actually had our brave young men and women serve under him in the first Gulf War, unlike John McCain who was an insubordinate in the military more than he was ever a leader, with a carefree lackadaisical attitude that was only tolerated because of the inherited privilege that came with his family name.

Colin Powell understands what it is to truly be an American, it is not your heritage, family traditions or your skin color, and it is certainly not your geographical location, it is that you love this country enough to make sacrifices for it, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice.

Listen to his Meet the Press interview. The clarion point he made for me is pointing out that the biggest strategy the Republicans have left is to paint Obama as a terrorist or a Muslim. Listen to him tell the story of the mother kneeling at her son’s grave in Arlington Memorial Cemetery, you know, that place where our greatest American patriots are laid to rest after giving the ultimate sacrifice for AMERICAN ideals and freedoms. This fallen hero’s gravestone was not adorned with a Christian cross or a Star of David, but rather the crescent and star of the Islamic faith. He was born in New Jersey and was 14 when 9/11 happened. He waited until he was old enough to serve HIS country. He then went and earned his Purple Heart and Bronze Star with his blood and his life, sacrificing all so that you have the freedom to spew your hatred from the comfort of your living room.

So don’t tell me that Colin Powell is only endorsing Barack Obama because he is black, all you do with such moronic displays of contempt is prove that there really are two Americas. Thank God the one you live in is a dying breed, because MY America is better than that. So save your misguided hatred and do something positive instead. You would be better served getting on your knees and offering a small prayer of thanks to Kharim Raschad Soltan Kahn … that AMERICAN hero that gave his life for YOU and the nation he loved.

“Ms.

Oh, the below is also for you on the lead issue. I found it through doing a simple Google search. You can find the full text of the letter very easily:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today called on Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye and Vice Chairman Ted Stevens to move forward his Lead Free Toys Act of 2007 (S. 1306). This legislation would protect our children from products containing lead. In the letter, Obama raises concerns about the serious and growing issue of lead-contaminated products and requests the Committee’s urgent attention to his bill. Obama originally introduced this legislation in April.

text of the letter is below:

Dear Chairman Inouye and Vice Chairman Stevens:

I am writing to request that the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee mark up the Lead Free Toys Act of 2007 (S. 1306), which I introduced in May, in order to address the serious and growing issue of lead-contaminated children products in this nation.

Just this week, we learned that the toymaker Mattel is recalling 83 types of toys worldwide because the paint in the toys contains excessive amounts of lead. This worldwide recall involves almost 1 million plastic preschool toys, including the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters. Fortunately, almost two-thirds of these toys were able to be quarantined before they hit store shelves. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Just one year ago, a 4 year-old child died from lead poisoning after ingesting part of a Reebok bracelet that had a high level of lead.

“I understand that…but that’s exactly what happens when we’re misinformed.”

I agree, and there’s a concerted effort now to misinform millions of voters, and it’s awful. This goes beyond Obama — there are many people who feel that their religion, racial identity, etc. are also under attack. This is a very nasty, divisive, inaccurate information campaign that the Republicans are running, and they’re counting on people being ill-informed and feeding into the ignorance. For example, Obama visited a diner in N.C. yesterday, and I saw the video last night and you could hear a woman yelling “Socialist” repeatedly at him — she sounded deranged.

Thank you for the information on Wahhabism, by the way.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Colin Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama was as much a rejection of the Republican Party and Sen. John McCain’s campaign as an embrace of the Democratic presidential nominee, political analysts said Monday.

Colin Powell may have given voice to moderates unhappy with the GOP ticket, an analyst says.

Syndicated columnist David Sirota said Monday that the Powell endorsement was a troubling sign for McCain as his campaign enters its final weeks.

“The repudiation of John McCain by such a high-profile Republican certainly hurts John McCain,” he said.

David Gergen, a CNN senior political analyst who has advised the last four presidents, said the Powell endorsement may give voice to “disillusioned” moderate Republicans disappointed by the negativity of the McCain campaign.

“They’ve been muttering about [it], but they were afraid to give voice to, and he came out and said it, in a way,” Gergen said.

Powell’s endorsement may also sway some voters who were hesitant to vote for Obama because they felt he was not ready to be the nation’s commander in chief, said Bill Schneider, a CNN senior political analyst.

“It was extremely reassuring for this experienced military leader, a general, someone who is chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who was secretary of state, to endorse Barack Obama and say, ‘His world experience, his commitment and knowledge of national security are fine. You can vote for him without those kinds of reservations,’” Schneider said.

And CNN contributor Alex Castellanos, a Republican strategist, said “Colin Powell … is a warm glass of milk and a cookie for those voters who have a hard time going to sleep at night.”

On Monday, Obama said Powell would advise him if he becomes president.

“He’s already served in that function, even before he endorsed me,” Obama told NBC. “Whether he wants to take a formal role, whether there’s something that’s a good fit for him, I think is something that he and I would have to discuss.” Watch Obama say Powell will advise him »

Powell, a former secretary of state for President Bush as well as a former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, said Sunday he decided, in part, to back Obama because he was troubled by the rightward direction the Republican party had taken in recent years.

Powell told NBC’s Tom Brokaw that he was troubled by the McCain campaign’s attempts to associate Obama with former ’60s radical William Ayers and some within the Republican Party — but not McCain — were making the assertion that Obama is “closet” Muslim.

“On the Republican side, over the last seven weeks, the approach of the Republican Party and Mr. McCain has become narrower and narrower,” said Powell. Watch Powell endorse Obama »

In contrast, Obama’s “inclusive” approach that crosses “ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines” is what the nation needs right now, he said.

Powell said he made his choice to back Obama after watching both presidential candidates’reactions to the financial crisis that has gripped credit markets in recent weeks.

iReport.com: What do you think about Powell’s endorsement of Obama?

Calling the crisis a “final exam,” Powell said he found McCain “a little unsure as how to deal with the economic problems that we were having, and almost every day, there was a different approach to the problem.”

    “That concerned me,” Powell added.

After Powell’s announcement, McCain told FOX News he considered Powell and himself “longtime friends” and that he respected him, but that the endorsement of his rival did not come as a surprise.

“I’m also very pleased to have the endorsement of four former secretaries of state: Secretaries [Henry] Kissinger, [James] Baker, [Lawrence] Eagleburger and [Alexander] Haig,” he said. “And I’m proud to have the endorsement of well over 200 retired Army generals and admirals.”

Tara Wall, the deputy editorial editor of the Washington Times, said that moderate and conservative Republicans have been skirmishing throughout this election year, and that the Powell endorsement had brought that fight into the open.

While it energized conservatives, McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a running mate may have alienated moderate Republicans like Powell, Wall said.

Powell said he did not feel Palin was ready to be president and that factored into his decision to endorse Obama.

“[McCain] took the calculated risk of putting Palin on the ticket to pacify the conservatives, and it did re-energize the base. And for that reason, you’re going to have some of those moderates within the party feel a little disenfranchised, and I think that was the case for Colin Powell,” Wall said. “So it is significant. I think it does send a message to Republicans.”

I think there are similar stories around the nation. And you heard about Obama’s letter to request a special prosecutor look into the ACORN matter, right? Yeah, the Obama campaign is monitoring all this — this cannot be a repeat of 2000 or 2004.

    From the LA Times:

SACRAMENTO — The owner of a firm that the California Republican Party hired to register tens of thousands of voters this year was arrested in Ontario over the weekend on suspicion of voter registration fraud.

State and local investigators allege that Mark Jacoby fraudulently registered himself to vote at a childhood California address where he no longer lives so he would appear to meet the legal requirement that all signature gatherers be eligible to vote in California. His firm, Young Political Majors, or YPM, collects petition signatures and registers voters in California and other states.

Vote early and make sure your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers go and vote. If they need a ride go pick them up. Don’t let this be the year that a black man almost became president. Also, I heard that they are indeed turning away people who are wearing Obama t-shirts and buttons. So don’t give them any excuses to not let you vote.

I heard on the radio last night that in some towns republicans are going as far as to broadcast that voters must vote for Barack and McCain on separate days. They are telling voters that support Barack to vote on the fifth and McCain supporters on the fourth in an attempt to trick Barack voters into voting late, so that it won’t count. There are a lot of first time voters in this election who may not know better.

It just proves how scared some people are of Barack winning, its so sad, its funny. Ya’ll think Beyonce has haters…Barack got some true haters.

  • WhatsYoursIsMine-Voting Early and I can’t wait!!!!!

    @Redd Tony-

The use of organics to solve common healthcare problems is often “tucked” into alot of green bills. Unfortunately, America, and many other western countries, have not been able to produce good enough results of the use of natural and homeopathic remdies for all illnesses.

We have a current government system that has red tape at so many levels, the investigation of the effects of exposure to lead paint, asbestos, natural gas in certain doses, etc. go into areas outside of the FDA, USDA, and anyone else. Every group is fighting for power and can block or encourage studies that only give the results their hoping for.

Housing commitees can block studies on gas leaks, mold, etc. by lobbying they receive from energy and insurance companies. Many of our herbs are imported or are produced from imported seeds, somewhere in the legislation that allowed for the importing of these spices and herbs there is information written to control the use and study of these imports in drug trials.

Pharmaceutical companies have spent money over the years on research for the uses of organic materials to produce drugs. The Agriculture department has put roadblocks in some studies to not put pressure on their preferred farmers so they won’t over produce and exhause their soil, leading to stalls in the studies of non-chemical drugs. The demand for prescription quality drugs has increased inthe US, it’s faster to produce materials in a test tube than to till and replant organic materials.

Lead paint in toys has been a rare occurence in our country when you look at the number of toys sold compared to the number that are tainted by lead paint. Lead paint is not the only culpri in these toys: sharp, construction grade materials that easily shatter and can cut a child. PVC and other strong, odorous plastics used to construct toys, non-lead paints and sealants that are water soluble and can break down and poison a child.

There are American and international companies that produce the materials used to make toys and clothing, and have people lobbying on their behalf. Plastics, paper manufacturers, packaging groups, etc.

There are several concerns that are being studied by the government. You can pretty much google any concern you have, and more than likely, you will find a research or focus group dedicated to that cause. The President can’t be on top of everything. if it’s a cause you’re so passionate about, get a group of people behind you to sign a petition and you “shop” it to every legislator you can find on every level.

Of course they’re going to say that. They probably are thinking that at the end of the day we stick together but isnt that the very reason that some white people are NOT voting for Obama??? Its always a crime when anyone who isnt white does things. White people have been doing this for years so??? Colin is an educated man and a smart man. Most logical people will choose a canidate based on what they feel would be best for them and their country. Its amazing how quickly they turn on Colin, now 7 years ago he was Bush’s right hand man and used as a pawn to get Bush elected in 2000. Now he’s just a Blackey sticking with his own kind??? WOOW!! COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) — Add one more policy item to the list of things John McCain and Sarah Palin disagree on.

Palin told CBN’s David Brody over the weekend that she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a proposal John McCain voted against in 2004. McCain believes the matter should be left to the states.

Brody asked Palin if she supports “something like” an amendment banning gay marriage.

“I am,” Palin said. “In my own, state, I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that’s where we would go because I don’t support gay marriage.

“I’m not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can’t do, should and should not do,” she said. “But I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that’s casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it’s the foundation of our society is that strong family and that’s based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.”

McCain and Palin disagree on a number of issues, including stem cell research, whether or not global warming is man-made, and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

In the past, McCain has joked away any policy differences between the two running mates.

“By the way, you may figure out from time to time, Sarah and I don’t agree on every issue,” McCain said at a joint town hall last month in Michigan. “What do you expect of two mavericks, to agree on everything? Eh?”

Sydney, it’s funny u mention the Jacoby incident. Rolling Stone discusses Florida’s Help America Vote Act more as Help America Disenfranchise Black Voters Act. Here’s an excerpt:

“Ironically, the new rules imitate the centralized system in Florida – the same corrupt operation that inspired passage of HAVA in the first place. Prior to the 2000 election, Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris and her predecessor, both Republicans, tried to purge 57,000 voters, most of them African-Americans, because their names RESEMBLED those of persons convicted of a crime. The state eventually acknowledged that the purges were improper – 2 years after the election. Rather than end Florida-style purges, HAVA has NATIONALIZED them.”

Very well said…”however I disagree with this statement:

“Pharmaceutical companies have spent money over the years on research for the uses of organic materials to produce drugs”.

My whole logic is how could the big Pharma Companies make Billions off a remedy when it could be grown naturally?

However my thing is this…Why doesnt either candidate address these issues in their debates..(and Obama’s Lead Free Toys Act of 2007″ is probably sitting in the trash some where) Like I said before, if we had spent money, time and attention to the root of the problem, maybe our Health Care system wont be the way it is…

So if the lobbyist are that powerful, ask yourself why do we even need Congressmen and women.

So what you do you think about when the Food and Drug Administration says vitamins, supplements, herbs and other natural substances, including water when it is used to “treat” dehydration, should be classified as drugs?

Here’s your early-vote snapshot of the day, courtesy of the meticulously up-to-date records of the North Carolina elections board.

As of this morning, over 340,000 North Carolinians have cast general election ballots, with the vast majority taking advantage of the state’s early in-person absentee voting, dubbed “One Stop” by Tar Heels.

Over six million state residents are registered to vote in North Carolina, one of the nation’s newest political battlegrounds.

Of 270,000 in-person voters since “One Stop” opened last Thursday, over 60% were registered Democrats, compared to only 20% Republicans. (The remainder: mostly unaffiliated voters, who make up about 20% of the state’s electorate.)

    Hi BE!

    @HF

LOL, I forgot the exact amount he owes — but it’s large enough to warrant his concern more than espousing his views on talk shows. You can tell he’s loving the limelight.

However, it appears Joe the Unlicensed Plumber’s impact on the McCain campaign is up for dispute:

So how has using Joe the Plumber as a battle-cry against Barack Obama helped John McCain’s campaign? Not much, judging by the latest Suffolk University poll released today. Obama leads by nine points, 51%-42% in Joe’s home state of Ohio.

And it’s not because voters there aren’t aware of Joe Wurzelbacher or his recent ricochet in to the national spotlight—68% of Ohioans polled recognized “Joe the Plumber” but just 6% said that Joe made them more like to vote for McCain, while 4% said they were more likely to vote for Obama.

McCain is faring better in the battleground state of Missouri, according to the Suffolk poll. The Arizona senator has a razor-thin 45%-44% lead over Obama, where Missouri voters are even more aware of Joe the Plumber—80% of those polled had heard of Joe; 8% said it made them more likely to back McCain, while 3% said they were more likely to back Obama.

The McCain campaign, however, should be more troubled by Obama’s 9% advantage in Ohio—a critical state for McCain’s path to 270 electoral votes. President George W. Bush won both Missouri and Ohio in 2000 and 2004.

“If Ohio goes for Obama, it may be lights out for McCain,” said David Paleologos, the director of the Political Research Center at Suffolk.

Biden’s Admonition: Plebs to Suffer if Obama is Elected

    Kurt Nimmo

    Infowars

    October 20, 2008

In a striking moment of candor, Joe Biden tells us would-be president Obama will face “an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions,” Matthew Jaffe reports on ABC News’ Political Radar blog. Speaking at a Seattle fundraiser, Biden said this “test” would likely unfold in the Middle East or Russia. It would likely be coupled with the economy.

Obama, as the “perfect master” — never mind that he has yet to demonstrate any sort of ability beyond rhetoric and oratory — was chosen by our rulers primarily due to his race and the fact this will make it difficult to mount an effective opposition to his policies.

“Gird your loins,” Biden told the crowd. “We’re gonna win with your help, God willing, we’re gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It’s like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than – think about it, literally, think about it – this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy.”

It is interesting Biden would mention Greek mythology to make his point. Augeas, one of the Argonauts, is best known for his stables, which housed the single greatest number of cattle in the country and had never been cleaned until the great hero Heracles came along. Apparently Biden would have us believe Obama is Heracles, the son of Zeus, know for his extraordinary strength, courage, ingenuity, and sexual prowess with both males and females. Biden also put the senator from Illinois in the same league as John F. Kennedy.

Biden said Obama, if elected, will do something extremely unpopular within the next year and will trend down in the polls. “I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?’ We’re gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I’m asking you now, I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us,” said Biden.

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s in store. As should now be obvious, the global elite are deliberately tanking the economy worldwide in an effort to consolidate their hold and wealth and this will result in unimaginable privation on a global scale. As Prison Planet and Infowars have consistently reported, they have launched a final effort to usher in a world currency and a world government. Recall Obama’s campaign promise to impose limitations on carbon emissions, shorthand for a global tax.

In addition, they are not finished with their project in the Middle East — the effort to take down Iran is a major piece of unfinished business. Moreover, and most ominously, the global elite are anxious to confront Russia and this will figure prominently on Obama’s agenda, especially with the notorious russophobe Zbigniew Brzezinski in control of Obama’s foreign policy.

All of this will require not only submission on the part of the American people, but enthusiastic support and possibly a willingness to send our children into the fiery maw of some as of yet uninitiated conflagration. Obama, as the “perfect master” — never mind that he has yet to demonstrate any sort of ability beyond rhetoric and oratory — was chosen by our rulers primarily due to his race and the fact this will make it difficult to mount an effective opposition to his policies. The corporate media and the Democrats will attempt to peg any criticism of Obama as racist. More then thirty years of political correctness has set the stage for a dictatorial regime.

Finally, recall Michele Obama’s warning earlier this year — the American people are obliged to sacrifice. Now we have the corporate and globalist insider Joe Biden telling us there will be a situation that will make Obama unpopular, possibly more unpopular than George W. Bush. One only need look at the economy, masterfully sabotaged, and the ongoing corporatized wars and invasions that appear endless no matter what stripe of one party politico is in office to understand what is coming down the road.

    AGAIN I TOLD YOU SO…

Preschoolers’ parents protest required flu shots

N.J. policy is first in the nation to require the vaccine for small children

    updated 4:07 p.m. ET, Thurs., Oct. 16, 2008

As flu season approaches, many New Jersey parents are furious over a first-in-the-nation requirement that children get a flu shot in order to attend preschools and day-care centers. The decision should be the parents’, not the state’s, they contend.

Hundreds of parents and other activists rallied outside the New Jersey Statehouse on Thursday, decrying the policy and voicing support for a bill that would allow parents to opt out of mandatory vaccinations for their children.

“This is not an anti-vaccine rally — it’s a freedom of choice rally,” said one of the organizers, Louise Habakus. “This one-size-fits-all approach is really very anti-American.”

New Jersey’s policy was approved last December by the state’s Public Health Council and is taking effect this fall. Children from 6 months to 5 years old who attend a child-care center or preschool have until Dec. 31 to receive the flu vaccine, along with a pneumococcal vaccine.

The Health Council was acting on the recommendations of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has depicted children under 5 as a group particularly in need of flu shots. But no other state has made the shots mandatory for children of any age.

“Vaccines not only protect the child being vaccinated but also the general community and the most vulnerable individuals within the community,” New Jersey’s Health Department said in a statement. It has depicted young children as “particularly efficient” in transmitting the flu to others.

‘Parents have a right to decide’
Opposition to the policy is vehement. Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk, one of the speakers at the rally, said she now has 34 co-sponsors for a bill that would allow for conscientious objections to mandatory vaccinations. “The right to informed consent is so basic,” she said in an interview. “Parents have a right to decide for their own children what is injected in their bodies.” State policy now allows for medical and religious exemptions to mandatory vaccinations, but Vandervalk said requests for medical exemptions often have been turned down by local health authorities. She said 19 other states allow conscientious exemptions like those envisioned in her bill. New Jersey’s health department has come out strongly against the legislation. “Broad exemptions to mandatory vaccination weaken the entire compliance and enforcement structure,” it said.

The department also contends that New Jersey is particularly vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases — with a high population density, a mobile population and many recently arrived immigrants.

“In light of New Jersey’s special traits, the highest number of children possible must receive vaccines to protect them and others,” the department said.

Several hundred people attended Thursday’s rally, some with signs reading, “Mommy knows best.”

Among the speakers was Robin Stavola of Colts Neck, N.J., who said her daughter, Holly, died in 2000 at age 5 less than two weeks after receiving eight different vaccines, including a booster shot.

“I am not against vaccines, but I do believe there are too many,” she told the crowd.

    Divide over vaccine safety

State health officials and the CDC insist the flu vaccine is safe and effective, but Vandervalk and the parent groups who support her bill contend there has been inadequate research into the vaccine’s impact on small children. Critics note that flu vaccines contain trace amounts of thimerosol, a mercury-based preservative; the CDC says there’s no convincing evidence these trace amounts cause harm.

More generally, many of the parents mobilizing against the state policy believe various types of vaccine are being overused, resulting in more cases of autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other neurological problems in children.

“There’s not been a response from the government that is credible in terms of doing the scientific research that will screen out vulnerable children,” said Barbara Loe Fisher, a speaker at the rally. She is co-founder of the National Vaccine Information Center in Vienna, Va., an advocacy group skeptical of vaccination policies.

“There’s an acknowledgment that prescription drugs can cause different reactions in people, but there’s a blanket statement by health authorities that we all have to vaccinate, all in the same way,” Fisher said.

Fisher is a prominent player in a nationwide movement challenging the scope of vaccination programs. She was harshly critical last year when school officials in Maryland’s Prince George’s County threatened to impose jail terms and fines on parents whose children didn’t get required vaccinations.

Many of the activists in New Jersey accept the need for mandatory vaccinations for certain highly dangerous diseases, such as polio, but argue that the state went too far in requiring flu shots.

Even health care workers reject flu shots Vaccine-wary parents spark public health worry

“The flu is not a deadly disease,” said Barbara Majeski of Princeton, N.J., who does not want her two preschooler sons to get the vaccination.

In fact, flu kills about 36,000 Americans a year and hospitalizes about 200,000. But children make up a small fraction of the victims — 86 died last year, from babies to teens, according to federal figures. Only two flu deaths of children in New Jersey have been recorded since 2004.

“Mother Nature designed our bodies to be able to fight off infections through natural means — you need to be exposed and develop immunity,” Majeski said. “We’ve just gotten a little too overprotective with our children.”

Not too many years ago the Republicans were “fighting” for Black rights and Democrats were leading the way trumpeting segregation. It wasn’t until the 1950s that the tide began to change. Bill Clinton is often referred to as some kind of saviour for Black Americans but he built more prisons and locked up more Black men than ANY president in history (and that is saying a lot). Also, everybody prospered monetarily in his four years of office EXCEPT the Black man (but including the Black woman) further helping to break up the Black family by removing the man as head of household (see Willie Lynch). There is a difference in the two but only as it relates to the tricknology. You cannot understand tricknology 101 until you remove the perception of democrat / republican, socialist / capitalist, etc. They are merely conflicts used to create change. Of course, I just don’t know the difference so what do I know?

    CAN YOU SAY AMERO…?

Globalists Exploit Financial Meltdown In Move Towards One World Currency

Paul Joseph Watson & Kurt Nimmo

    Prison Planet

    Monday, October 20, 2008

The swift and ruthless exploitation of the economic meltdown on behalf of globalists and central banks revolves around their drive to move towards a one world currency system and an unprecedented centralization of global financial power.

As the crisis reached its peak at the end of September, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown led the call for “a new global financial order” in which the world financial system would be built around a centrally coordinated policy of international regulation.

Statements on behalf of world leaders and central banks over the past two weeks have made it clear that the agenda to further collate economic power and control of currencies into the hands of the few is rapidly accelerating – all in the name of solving a financial crisis that was caused as a result of the same fiat money system that the elite themselves created and maintained.

The original Bretton Woods agreement in 1944, spurred by the depression of the 1930s and the second world war, created the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and laid down common standards for markets around the world. Now with the current financial crisis EU leaders see another opportunity to impose global regulations on sovereign economies.

As the crisis reached its peak at the end of September, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown led the call for “a new global financial order” in which the world financial system would be built around a centrally coordinated policy of international regulation.

Morgan Stanley Chief Executive John Mack has also called for a new global body to oversee the financial crisis, warning that it is like nothing he’s ever seen before.

The sentiment echoes those of elite figures such as CFR member Jeffrey Garten and Timothy Geithner, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who have both recently called for a “new global monetary authority”, a de-facto global financial dictatorship, operating across borders and forcing nations and corporations to register and adhere to strict monitoring and regulations.

European Central Bank council member Ewald Nowotny told Bloomberg yesterday that the centrality of the U.S. dollar was in question and that a “tri-polar” global currency system is in development between the U.S., Asia and Europe to replace it.

This followed a call by French President to question whether a “worldwide currency system” should be introduced in response to the financial crisis.

“Another subject in tomorrow’s world is that of the great currencies. How many should there be? What should the agreement between these great currencies be? Should we organize a discussion? Should a country like India one day have a global currency?” Sarkozy told a news conference, reports Reuters.

Any discussion would be purely academic, as the ruling elite long ago decided to force a global currency down our throats. In fact, a global currency is at the very core of their plan to dominate the world. Control money and you control the destiny of states, you eliminate national sovereignty. “The control of money and credit strikes at the very heart of national sovereignty,” A.W. Clausen, president of Bank of America once observed.

As Georgetown professor and CFR historian Carroll Quigley noted, the goal of the banking families and their minions consists of “nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole… controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences.”

It remains to be seen if the EU will realize its “solution” to the world economic crisis. In 2007, Robert Mundell, “the father of the euro,” noted that “international monetary reform usually becomes possible only in response to a felt need and the threat of a global crisis.”

Certainly, the elite cooked up an appropriate global crisis, now they will engage in a full court press to establish a global currency and eventually a global government.

During Clinton’s administration alot of Black men(99% of which actually commited crimes) were locked up, buy so were many more white men.

Also during his eight years in office, I personally know of hundreds of Black Men who went to College, started businesses, and profited from the 90′s boom. More Black Men prospered during that time, than any other time before.

Colin Powell splits with son over White House race

    By Alexander Bolton

    Posted: 10/20/08 02:21 PM [ET]

Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, has put him at odds with his own son, former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Michael Powell.

Michael Powell, who served as a policy adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney, is a surrogate for John McCain and represents the GOP nominee on the campaign trail.

He endorsed McCain early in the Republican primary in January, and said the Arizona senator was the best candidate to “calm the turbulent economic waters and to steer the new economy in a direction that will bring growth, opportunity and prosperity to all Americans.”

Powell contributed $1,000 to McCain the day of the Iowa caucuses and another $1,000 before the Florida primary. In August, he defended McCain, who had said he rarely uses the Internet, as someone who “understands technology very well” from his time as chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Technology.

Powell was not available Monday for comment.

His father, Colin Powell, has long been a friend of McCain’s, and in endorsing Obama, the senior Powell broke with the Republican establishment.

Colin Powell supported McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign, and McCain promised then to name Powell as secretary of State, a position Powell would later hold under President Bush.

But Powell said he was impressed by Obama’s steadiness, intellectual curiosity and depth of knowledge. He called McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, unready to become president in case of emergency.

Liberal and conservative commentators alike declared the former secretary of State’s endorsement a major boost for Sen. Obama (D-Ill.).

The younger Powell, however, who still has much of his career in front of him, has lined up solidly behind McCain. If McCain becomes president he could appoint Powell to several administration positions.

Michael Powell served as chairman of the FCC under Bush from 2001 to 2005. During his tenure he advocated for bigger fines to punish obscenity and indecent content.

Most famously, the FCC under Powell fined Viacom, the owner of CBS, $550,000 for Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” during the 2004 Super Bowl.

He has addressed the media as a technology adviser to McCain’s campaign, and told National Public Radio in August that McCain has the experience to help create the economic and social conditions for tech businesses to thrive.

Michael Powell serves as senior adviser of Providence Equity Partners and rector of the board of visitors of the College of William and Mary. He also serves on the boards of Cisco Systems, ObjectVideo and the Rand Corporation.

He served under Cheney during former President George H.W. Bush’s administration, when Cheney held the position of Defense secretary.

Colin Powell served as chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff under George H.W. Bush and national security adviser to former President Ronald Reagan.

Rush Limbaugh if you don’t like what’s going in the United States, Why don’t you take your big fat greasy, dopey a** to another country. He knows the only thing that he has in common with McCain is that he’s white. Obama is the best candidate period, But you still have some white people that would rather be poverty stricken then to vote on a qualified black man.

  • Macho-in-Paris-France

I dont know why people are so stupid, Powell endorsement wasnt necessary. he could vote for Obama but why to tell it to people? For sure here in Europa, most analysts think his endorsement is racial. It looks like he has given McCain the excuse he was waiting to play race-card; so about race-card everybody knows majority is. Obama can lose just through these stupid endorsements without real positive impact for him.

Oh, there’s also a good story in the New Yorker, www(dot)newyorker(dot)com, about how Palin positioned herself through political maneuvering to become the vp pick. She’s very, very ambitious. Below is a snippet:

The selection of Palin thrilled the Republican base, and the pundits who met with her in Juneau have remained unflagging in their support. But a surprising number of conservative thinkers have declared her unfit for the Vice-Presidency. Peggy Noonan, the Wall Street Journal columnist, recently wrote, “The Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It’s no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain.” David Brooks, the Times columnist, has called Palin “a fatal cancer to the Republican Party.” Christopher Buckley, the son of National Review’s late founder, defected to the Obama camp two weeks ago, in part because of his dismay over Palin. Matthew Dowd, the former Bush campaign strategist turned critic of the President, said recently that McCain “knows in his gut” that Palin isn’t qualified for the job, “and when this race is over, that is something he will have to live with. . . . He put the country at risk.”

Palin initially provided the McCain campaign with a boost, but polls now suggest that she has become a liability. A top Republican close to the campaign said that McCain’s aides have largely kept faith with Palin. They have been impressed by her work ethic, and by what a quick study she is. According to the Republican close to the campaign, she has sometimes discomfited advisers by travelling with a big family entourage. “It kind of changes the dynamic of a meeting to have them all in the room,” he told me. John McCain’s comfort level with Palin is harder to gauge. In the view of the longtime McCain friend, “John’s personal comfort level is low with everyone right now. He’s angry. But it was his choice.”

Last Wednesday after the debate, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) boldly declared:

“If the presidency would somehow go to Barack Obama, I would welcome him to the 6th District as well. As a matter of fact, I would put my hand on his shoulder and give him a kiss if he wanted to.”

And yet, by Friday, a whopping 48 hours later, she was on “Hardball” wondering aloud if Obama is anti-American.

“If we look at the collection of friends that Barack Obama has had in his life,” she said, “it calls into question what Barack Obama’s true beliefs and values and thoughts are. His attitudes, values, and beliefs with Jeremiah Wright on his view of the United States…is negative; Bill Ayers, his negative view of the United States. We have seen one friend after another call into question his judgment — but also, what it is that Barack Obama really believes?”

All of the Republicans are going to do all they can to downplay the significance of Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack, simply because IT’S HUGE! Colin, simply by endorsing Barack, has the power to swing a lot of undecided Republican votes. And Barack was very smart to say that Colin Powell can have any position in the Barack administration that he wants – how’s that for “crossing the isle?”

I think you’re looking at this election season with a glass half empty perspective. Yes, there are people who are largely unaware of the issues and may be voting based on superficial reasons. But for every individual who fits that description, I believe there are many more who have paid closer attention to this campaign than they may have paid before. Obama’s campaign is so inclusive and technologically savvy — such as with the recent text messages and online campaigning — that it has drawn in and educated large blocs of younger voters and others who may not normally be as engaged.

I’ve seen YouTube videos with kids expressing their thoughts on this election — including those too young to vote — and I think it is really awe-inspiring the breadth of interest in this historical moment.

FYI, I also came across a blog post today about black and white South Africans who are watching the election and their thoughts, so it’s not just young people here in the U.S. who are inspired — this is occurring across the world. That’s beautiful. :)

    wyff4.com/news/17764161/detail.html#-

Cullowhee, N.C. — The carcass of a black bear that had been shot in the head was found wrapped in Barack Obama campaign signs on a North Carolina campus on Monday.

Western Carolina University Campus Police Chief Tom Johnson said that officers were called about a dead bear on campus at about 7:45 a.m.

When the officers found the bear carcass, they said it was covered with two campaign signs that had been taped together.

WCU police called the state wildlife department to remove the bear from the campus.

Johnson said he has “no idea” what the motive for the killing or putting the signs on the body would be.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating the incident as a criminal matter. Although it is bear hunting season, to dump a bear’s carcass is considered “wanton and willful waste of wildlife.”

Dude, I am white and live in the south and unless you live down here, you have NO IDEA how racist white southern people are, by and large. I can’t tell you how many times people start racist comments around me just because I’m white. 50% or more of all white Georgians would vote for anyone white over Obama, as their support of Palin shows. Luckily, there’s some change afoot and blacks are voting in record numbers. I voted early today for Obama-Biden.

He looks and sounds horrible and since he knows it all why doesn’t his fat smelly butt run for president instead of controlling and pushing inadequate others to do so. I can not believe that this horrible being has that much influence over the Republican campaign Talk about judgment.

Obama leaving campaign trail to visit grandmother

Slideshow: Sen. Barack Obama Play Video Video: How Hawaii Shaped Obama ABC News Play Video Video: Race to the Finish ABC News WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is canceling nearly all his campaign events Thursday and Friday to fly to Hawaii to visit his suddenly gravely ill 85-year-old grandmother, a spokesman said.

Robert Gibbs told reporters aboard Obama’s plane that Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped raise Obama, was released from the hospital late last week. But he said her health had deteriorated “to the point where her situation is very serious.”

Events originally planned for Madison, Wis., and Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday will be replaced with one in Indianapolis before he makes the long flight to Hawaii. On Friday, Obama’s wife, Michelle, will sub for Obama at rallies in Akron and Columbus, in Ohio, said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki. Obama was expected to resume campaigning on Saturday, at an undecided location in the West, she said.

“Sen. Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has always been one of the most important people in his life, along with his mother and his grandfather,” Gibbs said. “Recently his grandmother has become ill and in the last few weeks her health has deteriorated to the point where her situation is very serious. It is for that reason that Sen. Obama has decided to change his schedule on Thursday and Friday so that he can see her and spend some time with her.”

Citing the family’s desire for privacy, Gibbs would not discuss the nature of Dunham’s illness. It seemed likely that she was close to death, as Gibbs said that “everyone understands the decision that Sen. Obama is making.” Dunham turns 86 on Sunday.

It could be a momentous one in his bid for the White House against Republican John McCain, with Election Day just two weeks away on Nov. 4.

In a campaign ad this year, Obama described his Dunham as the daughter of a Midwest oil company clerk who “taught me values straight from the Kansas heartland” — things like “accountability and self-reliance. Love of country. Working hard without making excuses. Treating your neighbor as you’d like to be treated.”

She’s also the “white grandmother” he referred to in a speech on race.

Obama last visited Hawaii in August, when he spent a week on vacation after he had clinched the Democratic presidential nomination.

I cannot fathom how Limbaugh has such a large listening audience. Has anyone on this site ever heard his commentary? He is blantantly racist, arrogant, and promotes hate. I’m sure he is educated, but he sure sounds ignorant as all get out. He is a mouthpiece for the far right. He had the audacity to say on one broadcast that one segment of the nation was “angry, uneducated, and bitter–referring to blacks. What he failed to mention is all the ignorant, angry, trailer trash dwelling in the U.S. as well–most of which can be found at McCain/Palin rallies–real talk. He’s a hate monger and he’s playing with fire promoting his hate filled commentary.

  • Lola

Rush Limbaugh is a racist idiot. What’s he got to say about Chris Buckley – son of William F. Buckley (father of the modern day conservative movement)and his endorsement of Obama last week. I’m convinced – There’s a special place in hell reserved for him and O’Reilly.

  • Marquis de Sade

    jonjon23

Limbaugh demonstrates typical voter behavior, as I am sure you do the same. Virtually no one votes for a candidate because they solidly support him. They vote against the other candidate because they do not like him. the reason they do this is because “their guy” has to move to the center in order to win just like the “other guy,” therefore his is no longer exciting. You have to stereotype his opponent in the worst possible light of his political leanings (i.e. Obama is a tax and spend Marxist who favors gulags for political opponents) in order to justify voting for your candidate who is running to the mediocre middle as muchas the other guy.

There is no sense in anyone getting holier than thou with Limbaugh…Afterall, he’s just doing his job to get his listeners fired-up, thus garnering more arbitron ratings which leads to more “AD REVENUES” for his employer Clear Channel (or is it Radio One?)

Everyone has know both Obama and McCain were the nominees for months now. Anyone who is actually going to vote made up their minds one way or the other the minute the primaries were done. Anyone who says they are an undecided voter is either not going to vote at all or a Joe/Josephine Shmoe who wants the attention that comes with the emotional boost that comes with it, either believing they are more intellectual by continuing to examine the candidates or trying to be a part of some anonymous focus groups and what not.

A pathetically small amount of people vote in the US. it is because only the partisans who already have a blind allegiance bother to cast ballots.

  • http://www.myspace.com/alchauncy AL CHAUNCY

Powell has a right to endorse whomever he wishes to.. People are having a hard time accepting change.. It shouldn’t be a race thing, it should be a matter of who can run our country… I quite said we get this far and racism is still at large.

    Update on Joe the Plumber:

Shortly after John McCain made Ohio plumber Joe Wurzelbacher a household name following last Wednesday’s presidential debate, reporters and bloggers soon discovered a couple problems with Joe’s everyman story.

First, they discovered his name wasn’t exactly Joe—full name Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher. Then, it turned out that while he practices the trade, Joe wasn’t a licensed plumber. And finally, while Joe was bemoaning Barack Obama’s proposed tax increases, the Ohioan was also delinquent on paying his own—with a $1,200 tax lien against him by the state of Ohio.

In response to the media coverage, two local Portland, Oregon radio hosts launched http://www.savejoetheplumber.net to help Wurzelbacher pay his back taxes.

Portland’s 1190 KEX’s afternoon News Radio hosts Mark Mason and Dave Anderson succeeded in that goal today, not only raising the $1,200 Joe the Plumber needs to pay his taxes, but also the $500 he’ll need to get his plumber’s license.

In an e-mail to Washington Wire, Mason writes that the hosts spoke to Wurzelbacher and his brother on air tonight to break the news. “We just spoke with Joe (and his brother) LIVE right now…felt that the media was unfair in that they never seemed to ask HIM about his background,” Mason wrote this evening, “He was very grateful for the $$.”

The interview will be available on the Web site.

    @HF

If you’re reading today, I guess Joe the Plumber’s 15 minutes of fame is paying off!

Very sad news about Obama’s grandmother in Hawaii, though. . .It sounds like her condition is pretty dire.

Also, here are some early voting figures from msnbc(dot)com. There’s a mention of the very disturbing bear cub story that Rozza posted yesterday:

The Politico checks takes a magnifying glass to key swing counties in McCain’s must-win states, and the news is not good for the GOP nominee. In Nevada’s Washoe and North Carolina’s Wake, Obama has made gains since earlier this month, besting his opponent by ten and 9 points respectively. But pollsters find that both states, as a whole, remain a dead heat.

COLORADO: “About 400 voters showed up during the first three hours of voting in Arapahoe County. That’s about the same turnout as during the entire five days of early voting in the August primary in that county, said Clerk and Recorder Nancy Doty.”

FLORIDA: Long lines greeted early voters in the Sunshine state. “Registration numbers released Sunday show a 600,000-voter edge for Democrats over Republicans in Florida: 4.7 million versus 4.1 million, with 2.1 million people identifying with neither party. The McCain campaign acknowledged it expected more Democrats than Republicans to vote early, but says GOP voters have requested 295,000 absentee ballots statewide compared with 199,000 Democrats.”

MICHIGAN: 8-mile native Eminem endorsed Obama. (Where’s Eminem been, anyway?)

NEVADA: Jon Ralston on the early voting in the state: “Third day exceeds second. Turnout will hit double-digits Tuesday. Democrats still have huge lead — 40,625 -17,509. That’s 59 percent to 25 percent. (Monday it was 13,099-6,419.) In CD3, it’s 2-to-1 Democratic voter lead. Senate 5 (Heck) just under 2-to-1 Democrats; Senate 6 (Beers) about 2-to-1, too. The Democrats essentially are doubling the GOP turnout — or more — every day. Can they possibly keep this up?”

More from Ralston from his daily report: “Four years ago, the best the Democrats could do was to capture 46 percent of that day’s early voters on any given day. This weekend: On Saturday, it was 62 percent; Sunday, it was 58 percent. Contrast that with the GOP numbers from 2004: The worst day the Republicans had was 37 percent of the early vote on any given day. On Saturday, the GOP turnout was 23 percent of the total and Sunday it was 26 percent. Yes, it’s only two days. But it’s the two days where – besides, perhaps, the final weekend of early voting – there will be the greatest turnout.”

NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Concord Monitor is out with a new poll that puts Obama up seven points in the Granite State, up from a four-point lead last month.

NORTH CAROLINA: The New York Times parachutes into this toss-up state to see why it’s tied. “The turnabout can be traced to an influx of new voters and a change in demographics; a slowing of the state’s economy and the collapse of the nation’s financial system; Mr. Obama’s extensive ground organization, huge financial advantage and amount spent on television (seven to one over Mr. McCain); the state’s large population of blacks and students; and Mr. McCain’s neglect of the state.”

“The relative position of the candidates was evident in their visits to the state last weekend. Mr. McCain spoke to a few thousand people in Concord, in Cabarrus County, which is an exurb of Charlotte and which voted lopsidedly in 2004 for Mr. Bush (67 percent to 33 percent). On a sunny Saturday morning, Mr. McCain’s audience seemed made up mainly of his base. They cheered loudly when he mentioned Ms. Palin and ‘Joe the Plumber’… “On Sunday, in a fortuitous bit of timing, Mr. Obama spoke in Fayetteville, dense with military families, in his first appearance after being endorsed by former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. Mr. Obama’s visit to the area, which voted marginally for Mr. Bush in 2004, was his sixth trip to the state since the primaries, and he was reaching beyond his base.”

“Police at Western Carolina University and wildlife officials were investigating the discovery early Monday of a dead bear cub draped with a pair of Barack Obama campaign signs. … The bear had been shot in the head. … Bear season is under way in western North Carolina.”

  • Cindy

This is just insane. Is it ok for us to say that Joe Liberman one of our leading democrats crossed party lines and endorsed Mcain and even campaigns for Mcain because John Mccain is white and Obama is black? I do not understand why Colin Powell’s endorsement for Obama should be seen as race based or even questioned while Joe Liberman’s endorsement for John Mccain is not to be seen as race based.

Colin Powell gave a very thoughtful and detailed reason for his choice of Obama and I think we should all respect that.

  • ebGCH

At the end of the day they can’t change his vote, and they are mad over his influence.

I vote for change, and they are still stuck in the Jim Crow days.

  • Marquis de Sade

The ironic thing regarding “Joe the Plumber” has a lien on his house because he owes back taxes. And he’s apparently broke (like many Americans) but my question is…Is this a discussion about paying ZERO taxes? Cause if this guy has a lien on his house and thus on-going issues with the IRS, my question becomes: is this guy an economic nihilist?

Do you actually think we should pay ZERO taxes? Or can we have a rational discussion of what I think we should have which is “quid pro quo” taxes.

If this guy isn’t paying his taxes, guess who is: YOU AND ME!!!

Ok, so square that with the new anti-socialism Hero, “Joe the Plumber” who owes something like over $1200 in back taxes that he hasn’t paid (not 100% on that, pls correct my #’s). Meaning the rest of us are covering his slack. And who defends this government-teat sucking parasite? Conservatives? Defending a guy NOT paying his “fair share”? This “Joe Plumber” who’s in such financial dire straits that he’s happy to have US pay his share of taxes?

So what the hell will happen with Obama’s plan…He has to, according to you, pay higher taxes and with his history of not paying…how is that any different to “Joe the Plumber” when it will be you and I paying for it?

Debate taxes and economics…wonderful. I’m glad this guy came out and engendered this debate as it is a healthy thing and the nature of our democracy, but keep in mind (you conservatives) your convictions. You cover this guy as a tiny part of his rhetoric backs up your political philosophies but then his actions prove he’s the total anti-thesis of what you (The GOP) are against: “THE GLORIFIED WELFARE CHEAT”

According the latest polls in the battle states, McCain is closing the gap, which (God forbid) could land the fate of this election in the hands of the electoral college.

I DON’T think Powell endorsed Obama just because of race, and I’m white! Powell gave good non-race reasons: he was opposed to the inappropriate religious insinuations being made about Obama PLUS Palin is NOT qualified. And frankly, a lot of white people (including me) are excited about having a black president. Even some whites are sick of the old white men running everything. Limbaugh is a DUMB crazy old white man. This race b.s. coming from Republicans must make Powell even happier with his endorsement. If the Republicans don’t like it, they should have run Condoleeza Rice, who is 1000 times more qualified than Palin and more likeable than McCain.

You know, Rush Limbaugh, McCain and Palin need to use their time more wisely. Rush is speaking out on his emotions without the benefit of intellect, to say such. Republican, just keep on using people for their benefit, until they use them up. When, Condi realize how much she has been used my the Republican, maybe she will endorse differently. Then, I guess they will continue to use the race card. Obama has proven to the people, true to fact, to the world what he can (with the people support) get accomplished. McCain and Palin has no one to blame but themselves. They have not come up with anything original to say, everything that has been said or offered by Obama and the Democrats, they imitate. Why not start assuring the people what that can do for this country. Instead of, telling people (who will listen) what Obama is doing for this country. Get set, Get started …. you have run out of time! It is going to take more than two weeks to restore your damage.

Republicans are in disarray now, exactly where they had the Democrats when they tried to Impeach Bill Clinton.

If you support Obama make sure you vote. Make arrangements with your boss, don’t just call in take the time off; you and your co-workers get together and ask your boss for the morning and/or evening off to vote; decide with your family who will take the morning off and vote and who will take the evening off to vote; split the babysitting chores and do part and the morning and someone else do the evening.

Whatever you do people vote. Take your drivers’license with you and your voter registration card with you. Show up at the correct polling place and be prepared to wait-patiently. Take a snack food with you and keep your head and wits about you.

    Vote Obama/Biden 2008.

Yeah and how many good jobs have been gotten by white counterparts….”because they are white” and if we are going there…the last 48(?) presidents have been white so they were there because they were white I guess. These republicans are making it clear that no one is capable or entitled to run this nation except white people….REPUBLICANS…WHY IS IT THAT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR DREAMS AND NO ONE ELSE IS? WHY? ARE YOU THE GREAT WHITE RIGHTOUS ONE?

  • B. Breezy

I guess white people don’t vote for white people just because they are white either? Limpaugh….and I spelled it on purpose that way…He doesn’t have a clue just like the hill billies up in Ohio that don’t have their facts straight.

Even the most racist of people realize that Obama is the best choice, which is why they come out with a different attacks every two days. They are getting scared and desperate. I still have no idea who will win the election–since Obama is black. As far as Joe the Plumber; he would benefit under Obama’s plan, and if the average voter looked at his situation and looked at the candidates philosophy objectively–they would realize this. Racism is still strong in this country and I hope Obama goes into the White House and breaks down some barriers. Everyone pray that nothing bad happens to him, because I admire him and think he has a chance to set America on the right track.

  • Mmmmh

ow why bother, everyone knows n*ggers dont vote. Go McCain!!!

  • Gina

@Jim the south is very racist, I hear some white people say they are voting for him just because he is white and old. Let’s just vote and put Obama in the white house. Since somebody feels the need to give palin 150,000.00 for clothes, sponser her childrens travling, etc… SOMEBODY PLEASE SPONSER HER ASS BACK TO ALASKA! Those two fruitcakes CANNOT run America! GOD help us!!!!!

Powell is backing Hussin Obamma simple because he is black. He never was really a rebublician. He is a lying two faced Ni**er.

  • liyah

dat is so ignorant. yall dont even kno da whole story behind his endorsement. yea, tru, its out of da ordinary for a well-known republican politician to endorse a democrat for presidential candidacy, but at least get da FULL facts instead of bein so quick to label it an act of “I’m Black and I’m Proud”!!!!!!!!!!!
