Lamman Rucker brought his beautiful smile to the premiere of “In The Hive” during opening night of the American Black Film Festival. The film was directed and executive produced by Robert Townsend.
Fellow old heads Keenan Ivory Wayans and Bill Duke came out to show their support. SMH @ us calling Keenan an “old head” but uhhh that mustache don’t lie. Somebody is getting gray!
Here’s a lil info about the film:
A gritty, factually based film set in rural North Carolina at the HIVE Academy, a technologically inspired alternative school for underachieving boys who, because of their gang and criminal behavior, no other school will admit. At the heart of the story is sixteen year old Xtra Keyes, a young father who’s tougher than nails yet discovers through the nurturing at the HIVE that his toughness can also lead to a new-found hope and perhaps even a future.
The film stars Michael Clarke Duncan, Loretta Devine, Vivica A. Fox and “That’s So Raven’s” Jonathan McDaniel. It’s based on a true story and has been widely embraced by the NAACP, DGA and Black Caucus for it’s timely exploration of social issues.
Bossip will be interviewing both Robert Townsend and Jonathan McDaniel about the film so stay tuned!
