Jail is a bad, horrible place m’kay. When people go in, they rarely come out the same. Some end up like DMX or Mike Tyson, never able to reclaim their major successes after doing their time. Others, though, use their jail sentences to propel them to greater achievements. Here are 10 stars that turned jail time to glory time.
Malcolm X – Detroit Red didn’t have much going for him before going to jail. He was a lowly thief jacking houses before getting to jail and joining the Nation of Islam. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Mike Vick – There was a time when Vick was the most dominant player in the NFL. Then he killed some dogs and had to go to jail for a couple of years. But he’s back and is somehow an even better QB! He’s got his Nike deal and everything, too. All his life is missing is a collection of Scooby-Doo DVDs, but that might get settled after his next parole hearing.
Robert Downey, Jr. – Drugs, booze and chicks. Downey had the Charlie Sheen swag down before Charlie did. Then he got out and is killing the game as Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Dope.
2Pac – He definitely had an epic career before going to jail, but he was on another level after Death Row. Just imagine where he would be if he would have kept on where his career was headed.
Tony Yayo – Nobody knew who Yayo was before 50 Cent was running around talking about him being awesome. It’s not like Tony has been anything to write home about, but at least you know his name…right?
50 Cent – Speaking of Chelsea’s former man slice, Fiddy did some minor time in the big house before his rap career took off. Now he can buy the jail and look for the next Shawty Lo to waste his money on.
Don King – Before he was the mega promoter with the crazy hair, Don went to jail. Shame to see that happen to such an honest man.
Allen Iverson – After a scuffle in his hometown, AI had to go to a correctional facility for some time. Thankfully that whole mess was cleared up so he could wait until he was rich and famous to ruin his life.
Martha Stewart – Everyone thought it was over when she went to jail for insider trading, but she came back stronger than ever. You’d think she were some privileged white woman or something.
