Dont know about Bey’s version of “At Last” but it really seems like she threw herself into this movie. I have to give it to her, after getting upstaged in Dreamgirls she seems determined to get some recognition acting. I will say that she played her role great in Dreamgirls because she was supposed to be p*****ive and submissive so she definately shoulve gotten more props than she did. I cant wait to see the movie and I believe that Beyonce is following the Diana Ross template to the T, when it comes to her being on top of the acting and the music game. Good look. If she wins an Oscar before she’s 30 she can retire and have alot of Hovi’s kids because it wouldnt be nothing else for her to do but smoke crack. LOL

I think she did a very good job with the song. She will never “OWN” the song like Etta. But the song still makes me fall in love every time i hear it. I think Bey is a very good singer, she has emotion when she sing, but she usually loses,well most, some of that when she acts. Hopefully, she can channel some of the emotional singing more into her acting this time.

She had the power to do something and she never did, one thought and one word NOT MONEY would have brought the much needed attention. DAMN SHAME!

People do covers all the time. That doesn’t mean they sing exactly the way the song was originally done. I do actually like Christina’s better than Beyonce, because her’s has depth. Like someone else said, due to Beyonce having a mature voice(speaking and singing), her voice seems like it’s a powerhouse voice. I have nothing against the lady, but her voice isn’t as strong as many want it to be. A strong voice is Jill Scott. There’s p*****ion and soul there. The song is good but that’s it. But, I hope her acting has stepped up, even though she’s not really bad or anything.

It KILLS me to hear Beyonce butchering one of the most beautiful songs I ever had the pleasure of hearing. What were they thinking? Beyonce is nowhere near the caliber of songstress that Etta James was/is…that would mean I could compare Beyonce to Big Maybelle, Bessie Smith, and Nina Simone which is impossible since those women are above and beyond anything Beyonce could croak out. She has quite a lovely voice. Of course, it is NOT Etta James but that is why they are making a movie about Etta James and not Beyonce…lol. She does a convincing cover though. In the context of the movie, I am sure it is perfectly fine.
I am a beyonce supporter…but I had this song at my wedding and this song is suppose to make feel a certain emotion that feels you heart and soul. Her version lacked that for me. Its a song that you pull your feelings and experience from to sing from the pit of your soul…and bey honey…I don’t feel nothing..no feeling no emotion. The only song I ever heard her sing with extreme emotion was that song on dreamgirls “on my own” i forget the title but she basically was telling jamie fox…f&*k You!!…no she made my eyes water with that song….

Her acting probably was improved in this movie, but singing this particular song was not a good idea. She didn’t exude any emotion behind the lyrics. In the long run, she should stray away from acting roles playing singers otherwise she will become typecast. I think an real actress should’ve done this movie.

This version of “At Last”, is more in the style that Etta James sang it, the version on Fashion Rocks was a little different. She put more of here self into that performance.

Bey is playing the role of heroin addict, and that’s not a pretty picture. Etta James was a singer but also a heroin addict.
That song was boring and uninspired. She didn’t sound anything like Etta and she was boring as hell as herself. UGH I hope the movie is better than her singing and much better than her previous acting gigs.

Call her fake, or whatever you want to call her, she’s paid to entertain and give you a character, none of you chickens know her in real life so how can you just blatantly hate because she’s obviously something your not.
