Livesteez has reported an absolutely jaw-dropping story:
Students at a suburban St. Louis high school are headed to the gymnasium for HIV testing this week after an infected person told health officials as many as 50 teenagers might have been exposed to the virus that causes AIDS. Officials refused to give details on who the person was or how the students at Normandy High School might have been exposed, but the district is consulting with national AIDS organizations as it tries to minimize the fallout and prevent the infection — and misinformation — from spreading, reports CNN.com. “There’s potential for stigma for all students regardless of whether they’re positive or negative,” Normandy School District spokesman Doug Hochstedler said Thursday.
This is like a Lifetime Movie Network special. These kids are supposed to be worried about catching a ride home from school, not contracting AIDS. Kids are indeed growing up a lot faster than before, and that is exactly why we have to do a better job of educating them about the dangers of the world at an even earlier age.

nobody is blaming “white people”!
its “white people” who do the blaming the large majority of the time. Nothing is ever there fault! The problem with some (not all) white people is that they are the one’s that have a God complex. And want all the power, but none of the responsibilities.
The economic crisis is due to welfare and black folk, Katrina is because black folk didnt leave in time, Obama isnt suited to be the President because he sat on a board with a terrorist…etc etc etc! Look over the history books…whites set a lot of issues in action. Remember that! Unless you have an excuse for over the years and years of things that have gone on.

This is a white high school so if they’re going to blame the white man, then they’ll be blaming themselves.
This is what abstinence only education gets us. Or lack of education on human biology. Kids could have been sharing piercing needles, doing odd things in addition to having sex where they exposed themselves to, or contracted, HIV. I don’t know everything about passing the illness, but I know to stay away from blood.
Oh, wait, I pulled up the wrong high school. I’m still trying to see what I can find on this school.

I live in STL and this is not a white high school. It might be in the suburbs of STL but trust me it’s about 95% black. But regardless, parents can only do so much to protect there kids and informed them but if you’re a teen then you should already know to use protection. Me personally i think that it should be REQUIRED for all students to get tested along with there physical cuz aint no telling how many of them have been with other students at other schools in STL.
Well, I looked it up, and it is a black school. Why can’t people educate their children?! WHY?!
If the schools won’t do it, families need to do it. I grew up in Catholic school and would watch girls get pregnant and get expelled, and no one would discuss it in front of the teachers/nuns/priests.

I saw I looked up the wrong school, I pulled up one in Ohio.
This is as bad as those girls with the pregnancy pact on the East Coast. Children need to learn about responsibility and taking care of their bodies, just as parents and educators need to learn to take an active road in sexual education.
kids r over exposed to waaaay too much grown up behavior way too soon and they think they got it down but they dont even have the mental equipment to manage they little dumb actions…just smart mouths, cell phones, and myspace logins..crazy

It’s crazy! But then you have those “in denial” parents that think that there child aint F’ing!! Ok even if you dont think your child is having sex why not keep them educated anyway. There’s no way you can keep an eye out on your child 24/7. I told my 13 year old daughter about it and told her this is what happens when you “play” and sometimes you might just get something that wont go away and its with you forever. What the hell is wrong with these kids?

My friends and I are in public health.
Last week she had to tell a 14 year old girl that she was HIV positive. Per her previous visit she was treated for syphillis.
She claimed to have one sex partner, who was older. They tested him – he was negative.
They had to do the follow-up and all. Why do ya’ll think she had sex the next day?
My friend says it was obvious she didn’t know what was going on and didn’t realize how serious the situation was.
It’s too much to type, but it popped off her family and everything. I couldn’t do nothing but sigh & SMH.
I work in an OB office and true story this one chick had got chlamydia 7 times in one year!!! That’s triflin!!

I am not surprised. I was a research assistant for a sexual health study and one of the teenage participants boyfriend kept infecting her.

She said she would get treatment and he never did. Since she lived at home she said the first few times she had something she looked it up and because she thought it wasn’t fatal she didn’t seek treatment.
Guess it’s just lying dormant. Both are them are infecting each other.
When you combine uneducation, mis-guided information, fear, shame and guilt….this is what you get….this is so sad and I hope and pray to GOD that these kids who are being tested is ok….

I live in St. Louis and this has been on the front page of news papers for sometime now. We understand that there are some irresponsible kids at that school and we are very tired of hearing about it in the News. My mom was just talking about this the other day and she explained how News Channels 2 & 4 are very racist about this headline. There is a sure fact that if this was a white school it wouldn’t even be headlined so they need to quit already and let the school district handle it.

Ok Normandy is basically a all black school u can say that. I live in STL that shit is at all school not only Normandy they just have the bigger out brake then anything out there in high schools. Its called the football team and the cheer-hoes up there thats it. Now the parents think that the schools are wrong. Bitch Mono is out there too along with the highest pregnacys so its nothing out of the ordinary but it is FUCKED UP!
I too live in St. Louis, about 10 minutes from the school and honestly, I wouldn’t describe Normandy as a suburb. Suburb or not, “She Is..” is correct. If this were a school in Ladue (for the STLiens on here) or O’Fallon (MO) it wouldn’t probably have hit the news for real. What people don’t realize is, people in the news media are asked to go to the city or suburbs and if the story isn’t “good” then it won’t hit the paper or the tv.
Bottom line people can be as educated and informed as they want to be, but if they don’t take responsibility for what they do…it will always be an issue. And that goes with anything whether good or bad. RESPONSIBILITY. Age doesn’t matter. My nine 9-year-old niece knows about AIDS/HIV so a 14 year old knows the consequences too.
How did 50 students get involved though…. I see five or even ten. That’s almost unbelievable.. had to be a group of them like the football team, cheerleaders, or something like that. This aint funny, because I am certain some of them have gf’s and bf’s on the outside of the school too. So that means, even if your kid doesn’t go to the school, it ain’t safe. shoot, it aint safe regardless…

SEX is not that important! i wish schools had sex education to inform the children. They should at least have seminars to inform children and hand out condoms. It is so sad to hear that. I really pray no one who caught it acts out, sexally. Parents need to have a more in depth relation with their children about sex. Stop trying to act like “their” children are not doing it. Not funny, Nephew. It is good that this story is being publicized. Kids need to be scared. They need to realize their own mortality, which they don’t. Teenagers think they’ll live forever. Also, while we need to have strong sex ed in schools, I think that we need to take back this country morally. Parents need to be more involved with their children, take them to church, live a good and wholesome lifestyle as an example. The entertainment media is a poison that is making our children mimic negative and corrupt behaviours that degrade them and endanger them.

Sex ed has been taught for years. Birth control is readily available at your local drug stores, but if kids are not willing to use them, they are ineffective and their are consequences to be paid. It’s up to the parents to teach sex ed (or abstinence with is truly the only reliable birth control). If not a parent, some other reliable adult who has the best interest of the child at heart.

And not that I care because we used to murder Normandy in every sport but I learned that they might make the football team quit the season because of this issue.
