One of the most storied careers in sports history is coming to an end.

Randy Moss, the prolific, controversial wide receiver for teams like the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots has decided to retire instead of play the free agent market. The receiver, whose stats are only surpassed by Jerry Rice’s, caught 954 passes for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns in his career. But he was essentially dropped by two teams last year thanks to his off-the-field antics.

Since the lockout, he’s struggled to land on a team as the New York Jets seemed to have passed on him. Moss’ ego could have come in to play as he seems to see himself as too big of a star to be battling for positions and getting paid the league minimun. It’s an unfortunate end to a great career.

Regardless, Moss goes down as one of the best wide receivers in NFL history. Where do you think he stacks up with the greats? And what’s your favorite Randy Moss memory?
