Well, it looks like Comcast is a big group of angels after all.

If you’re in an area served by Comcast and your children receive free lunch, you can be eligible for the super-cheap $9.95 internet service. The only catches are that you can’t have activated an account in the last 90 days or have an overdue balance. You also have to have children, so low-income singles, couples or elders without young children won’t make the cut. Other than that, you’re set.

Here’s the official Comcast stance:

“We want to bring the power of the Internet to more students and families across the country.”

While this all seems like just some altruistic good will gesture, it’s also part of the bylines for the Comcast/NBC merger that took place last year. Whatever the reason, this should be a benefit for low-income families across the country.
