This Oklahoma couple along with the woman’s sister and mother are in deep isht… The couple, who have seven healthy children, treated their eight baby like crap! The kid, who was allegedly beaten and starved was also locked in a damn closet. And get this, the couple’s lawyer is trying to say the baby wasn’t starved, she just was small like her mama!

A defense lawyer in the abuse case of three people accused of allowing a malnourished 5-year-old to live in a closet said genetics caused the girl to be so small.

The girl’s mother, Asusena Gonzalez, Maria Gonzalez and Sergio Almeida were charged with child neglect after the child was found weighing 19 pounds.

The three did not appear at a court hearing scheduled for Thursday. Almeida’s lawyer, attorney Frank Kirk, said the accusations against his client were bogus.

“I’ve represented many people in murder cases, and I’ve never seen a witch-hunt like this aimed at the entire family. Police officers have said to me that they intend to destroy this family,” Kirk said.

Investigators said the child had been locked in a closet and beaten by her mother. Asusena Gonzalez was also charged with child abuse.

The woman’s 15-year-old sister was also arrested in the case, according to Kirk. Kirk said the teen was arrested on the grounds that she should have reported the abuse.

Kirk said that Almeida and Asusena Gonzalez have seven healthy children, but investigators said the couple’s eighth child was locked in a closet, beaten and starved.

“I think the District Attorney’s Office is throwing a rather wide loop here in arresting not only (the girl’s) mother, but arresting her sister, who lived there and has nothing to do with this,” Kirk said.

Kirk, who does not represent Asusena Gonzalez, said the woman has a small frame, which could explain why her child was so small.

He said Asusena Gonzalez was so small as a child that her ribcage crushed her lungs, forcing her to have surgery to help her breathe.

Judge Stephen Alcorn presided over Thursday’s preliminary hearing.

Immigration officials said Maria Gonzalez may be in the country illegally. She was being held in a jail in Texas.

The lawyer needs a ho sit down. We’re just glad that poor baby didn’t die.
