It’s awards show season, kids, and next up is the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Nominees were released and they are quite interesting to say the least. We here at Bossip will take a look at the picks and see who has the best chances to succeed!

em rihanna

Best Hip-Hop Video

Big Sean Feat. Chris Brown – My Last
Chris Brown Feat. Lil’ Wayne & Busta Rhymes – Look At Me Now
DJ Khaled Feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil’ Wayne – I’m On One
Eminem Feat. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
Kanye West Feat. Rihanna & KiD CuDi – All Of The Lights

This is a pretty interesting category. The best video is clearly Em and Rihanna’s but “Look At Me Now” won so many BET awards that it might win another one this time. Those are the two favorites, probably.

lupe trey

Reese’s Perfect Combo Award (Best Collab)

Ace Hood Feat. Rick Ross & Lil’ Wayne – Hustle Hard (Remix)
Big K.R.I.T. Feat. Ludacris & Bun B – Country ISHT (Remix)
Chris Brown Feat. Lil’ Wayne & Busta Rhymes – Look At Me Now
DJ Khaled Feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil’ Wayne – I’m On One
Lupe Fiasco Feat. Trey Songz – Out Of My Head

Again, if things go like the BET Awards, then Breezy’s song is definitely going to win. It’s good to see that an underground cat like Big K.R.I.T. got a nomination, though. “I’m On One” may sneak into the winner’s circle because that track is a damn anthem.

Best Live Performer

Busta Rhymes
Cee-Lo Green
Lil’ Wayne
Kanye West

This is a super tough one. Each of these guys has an amazing live show. Cee-Lo goes out and dresses as a freaking muppet so that’s a bonus for him. But we’re thinking Kanye and his theatrics may get the nod here.

rick ross

Lyricist of the Year

Lil’ Wayne
Nicki Minaj
Rick Ross
Kanye West

While Jay has been the lyrical king for years now, but he’s starting to show a bit of rust. Weezy’s Carter IV is disappointing from a lyrics standpoint, too. Kanye, though, has been on point as well as Ricky Rozay. We’d say it’s a two-man race.

hype williams

Video Director of the Year

Gil Green
Anthony Mandler
Chris Robinson
Kanye West
Hype Williams

In 1998, this would be a no-brainer for Hype Williams. He’ll probably still win just because he’s the most famous video director in the world.

Producer of the Year

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League
Kane Beatz
Lex Luger
No I.D.
Kanye West, Emile, Jeff Bhasker & Mike Dean

Kanye produced his own album, of course, and most of WTT, so he’s got the pedigree. Lex Luger may be the sleeper because he’s got some of the biggest hits of the last year. So what if half of them sound like the same beat? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

MVP of the Year

Lil’ Wayne
Nicki Minaj
Rick Ross
Kanye West
Wiz Khalifa

We’re going to go out on a limb: Nicki Minaj is taking the trophy home. Hip-Hop is a man’s game but Nicki has had the hottest songs of the year and she’s been consistent all throughout. We just can’t imagine what Mr. Robotnik a$$ costume she’ll have for this event.

wayne cory

Track of the Year

6 Foot 7 Foot – Produced by Bangladesh (Lil’ Wayne Feat. Cory Gunz)
Black and Yellow – Produced by Stargate (Wiz Khalifa)
I’m On One – Produced by T-Minus (DJ Khaled Feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil’ Wayne)
Look At Me Now – Produced by Diplo & Afrojack (Chris Brown Feat. Lil’ Wayne &
Busta Rhymes)
My Last – Produced by Lex Luger (Big Sean Feat. Chris Brown)

Breezy takes this one. “Look At Me Now” won damn near every award at the BET Awards and it’ll probably repeat here. Man, BET just EFFING loves Chris Brown.

nicki minaj

CD of the Year

Big Sean – Finally Famous
Lupe Fiasco – LASERS
Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday
Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Papers

Kanye’s MBDTF was clearly the best album of the year, but who knows what criteria BET is using. They’ll probably go with the commercial choice and give Nicki another award. But Pink Friday damn sure isn’t the best album on the list.

DJ of the Year

DJ Drama
DJ Enuff
DJ Envy
DJ Khaled
DJ Prostyle

We Tha Besssssst!!! Is there any question who wins here? Moving on.

Rookie of the Year

Big K.R.I.T.
Big Sean
Frank Ocean
Diggy Simmons
Tyler the Creator
Wiz Khalifa

Tyler won at the MTV Awards so he’s the clear favorite. But we’d like to see Frank Ocean or Big K.R.I.T. take home the trophies. Of course, those are mega longshots.

kanye west

Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip-Hop Style)

Lil’ Wayne
Nicki Minaj
Kanye West
Wiz Khalifa

Well Wayne and his jeggings aren’t getting any fawking votes. Nicki has spawned her own crew of lookalikes so she’s going to get some consideration. Sorry, Wiz, but shirtless with a joint in your mouth won’t win you anything.

Best Club Banger

Ace Hood – Hustle Hard (Produced by Lex Luger)
DJ Khaled Feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil’ Wayne – I’m On One (Produced by T-Minus)
Lil’ Wayne Feat. Cory Gunz – 6 foot 7 foot (Produced by Bangladesh)
Waka Flocka Flame – No Hands (Produced by Lex Luger)
Wiz Khalifa – Black And Yellow (Produced by Stargate)
YC Worldwide Feat. Future – Racks (Produced by Sonny Digital)

While Waka has the strip club anthem, “I’m On One” is clearly the best song. Blame it on Drizzy’s hook because that song is just infectious. Underdog pick is definitely “Racks”.

bobby ray

Best Mixtape

Big K.R.I.T. – Return Of 4Eva
B.o.B – No Genre
J. Cole – Friday Night Lights
Kendrick Lamar – Section .80
Frank Ocean – Nostalgia, Ultra

Mannnn, Kendrick Lamar’s Section .80 is a fawking classic. We’re just happy he got the nomination. However, Frank Ocean’s debut put him on the map and probably will take home the trophy.

look at me now

Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse

Busta Rhymes – Look At Me Now (Chris Brown Feat. Lil’ Wayne & Busta Rhymes)
Lil’ Wayne – Motivation (Kelly Rowland Feat. Lil’ Wayne)
Nicki Minaj – Monster (Kanye West Feat. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver)
Wiz Khalifa – Bright Lights, Bigger City (Cee-Lo Green Feat. Wiz Khalifa)
Wiz Khalifa – Till I’m Gone (Tinie Tempah Feat. Wiz Khalifa)

Busta Rhymes’ quick flow on “Look At Me Now” is a show-stealer, but nobody is fawking with Nicki Minaj’s verse on “Monster”. It’s not everyday someone outraps Jay and Kanye on one song.

Hustler of the Year

Lil’ Wayne
Rick Ross
Kanye West

Tough. Diddy and Jay are always top money makers, but Ricky Rozay has made some major strides. Still, Hov is the top hustler until someone makes more bread than he does.

nicki drake

Verizon People’s Champ Award (Viewers’ Choice)

Chris Brown Feat. Lil’ Wayne & Busta Rhymes – Look At Me Now
Lil’ Wayne Feat. Cory Gunz – 6 Foot 7 Foot
Nicki Minaj Feat. Drake – Moment 4 Life
Kanye West Feat. Rihanna & KiD CuDi – All of The Lights
Wiz Khalifa – Black And Yellow

BET fans LOVE Chris Brown. Nobody else matters. The choice could be “Chris Brown Burps Into A Microphone” and it would win “Viewer’s Choice” awards for BET.

Well, there’s our breakdown. Sound off!
