It doesn't happen very often: but every once in a while rappers fall in love. And sometimes, the love lasts more than one night. And when they do, they create the kind of epic romances William Shakespeare could have never come up with. Of course that is a major exaggeration. But Hip-Hop has given us a few couples we've loved to watch and and a couple we would love to see back together. Check them out...
LL Cool J and Simone - Despite LL's bad boy/sex symbol/slightly suspect persona, Simone has been around since day one. The two have 5 kids together and are constantly seen supporting each other. He's at her jewelry shows, she's on the red carpet. They don't feed into any scandals. And they don't show any signs of stopping.
Rev Run and Justine Simmons - In an age of ratchetry being the norm on reality TV, these two finally proved that families like "the Huxtables" really did exist in the real world. In addition having a relationship that seems as real and as stable as it gets, they've also managed to raise kids that have yet to wild all the way out and embarrass all of Hip-Hop with their shenanigans... unless you count JoJo's rap career.
Ice-T and Coco - What Ice and Mrs. T have that most celebrity couples never figure out is that what the rest of the world thinks about your situation doesn't matter. You may not understand how these two ended up together or how they stay together even with Coco's a** and t***ies all over the web at least once a week.
Snoop Dogg And Shante - High school sweethearts Snoop and Shante have been through their fair share of foolishness and hood sh*t. But through it all, Shante has remained Snoop's rock, the person that reminds him that he is a man, husband and father before anything. And you know it takes a special woman to stand by that "all I do is smoke weed and f*** b****" Snoop pretends to be professionally.
Will and Jada - yes, their situation seems a little shakier than it used to. And we've always felt that whole "open relationship" situation was worthy of a side-eye. But, considering the amount of effort they've been putting into rumor control, maybe they really did mean it when they said divorce was not an option.
Beyonce and Jay-Z - There's no denying that the Knowles-Carters are certified Hip-Hop royalty. They've managed to keep their relationship super private for years, with the exception of a couple of subliminal shout outs in their songs and the occasional photo. Now, they've even managed to change the hood's aspirations with their little prince or princess-to-be. Having kids after you get married is what's good now.
Nas and Kelis - We still don't know what went wrong. But these two fractured individuals and their all-green-everything wedding and "N-words on our red carpet outfits" seemed like they had the right balance of crazy to keep it together forever. Which is why we're not really convinced they won't get back together either...
T.I. and Tiny - Man, if these two aren't just the high end version of everyone's favorite ghetto cousins. They met at the mall, they each brought outside kids into the situation, they've had sex at a prison. They are the epitome of hood fabulosity.
Common and Erykah Badu - Why, out of all of Erykah's conquered rappers, did we choose Common? Well, really it was because there are absolutely no pics of Erykah and Andre 3000 to be found on these interwebs. But Common and Erykah had the alternate universe version of the relationship Erykah and Andre had. They were all types of granola and patchouli, but in a way that didn't seem forced at all. They seemed like the best fit ever. Until...
Common and Serena - Now these two had the complete opposite relationship as Common and Erykah. Between pics of them surfing, running errands, and taking phone calls while mean-muggin' the camera, Common and Serena were the most normal, down-to-earth Hip-Hop couple we've ever seen be so public. We think that's Common's future wife on the low. Watch.
Jim Jones and Chrissy - These two are really the only reason VH1's "Love and Hip-Hop" exists. They are like the anti-Jayonce, the couple that would be celebrities on their block even if Jimmy wasn't a rapper. And despite everything Mama Jones might want to believe, Chrissy ain't going NOWHERE. And we love it.
Joe Budden and Tahiry - He "made her" a celebrity, and the dysfunction that ensued after their five year relationship ended has pretty much eclipsed everything else in Joe Budden's career. But they still love each other. We know this because he planks outside of her house and she has yet to file a restraining order, despite all their threats. We see a wedding in 2012 for these two. Watch.
Angela Simmons and Bow Wow - Shad and Angela are like something out of a Hip-Hop fairytale: he's the former young prince of Hip-Hop, she's the daughter of one of Hip-Hop's greatest pioneers. They look better together than Bow Wow ever did standing next to Ciara's glamazon a**. They fell in love at an age where they very well could have morphed their puppy love into a full on adult romance. And now after a year of Bow Wow sowing wild oats (and making babies), and Angela exploring what else the world has to offer her closed legs, it looks like Shad and Angela might make it to "Happily Ever After" after all.
Nelly And Ashanti - We know these two swear they're "just really close friends"... but they've been singing that song for at least 6 years now, with no other significant others in the mix. Ever. We're ready for Ashanti to pull a Beyonce and show up on somebody's red carpet with a ring or a bump already.
Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose - remember that weird goth couple in High School that was always together and never seemed to talk to anyone else? You would watch them make out at lunch and be a little grossed out, but still unable to turn away. You knew that at least one of their parents were never home and that these two lived a much more grown up life than any other high school kids and would be married before their senior year was over and actually stay together for life? That's what Wiz and Amber represent to Hip-Hop... And who can really knock them for that?
