Your boy Lewis Hamilton became the youngest Formula 1 race car driver ever to win the world championship today:
BRITAIN’S Lewis Hamilton became the world’s youngest Formula One champion when he finished fifth in a dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix today.
Needing only a top-five finish to take the title, Hamilton, 23, clinched it only on the final lap of 71 when German Timo Glock lost 18 seconds in his Toyota and slipped behind him. Until then, the title looked to be going to hometown hero Felipe Massa, who won the race. As well as being the youngest champion, Hamilton also became the first black Formula One title holder on a stirring afternoon in front of an impassioned 100,000 crowd at the Interlagos circuit.
“It’s amazing, I can’t get my breath back,” Hamilton said before his father, Anthony, ushered him away. Hamilton senior had earlier told television: “What can I say. I can’t say any more. I really can’t find any words. “It’s absolutely great and that’s a shame that the crowd are doing this (booing). They should be sportsmen. We have the championship and let’s look forward to the next one.”
