Sadly, Obama’s grandmother passed away one day before her grandson became the president:

A tragic turn of events for Sen. Barack Obama: his ailing grandmother died today. Here’s a statement from Obama and his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng:

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.

“Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer.”

Below we have a images of Madelyn Dunham in a campaign commercial for Obama anda much older picture of her with her daughter and husband.

I feel so bad for Barack, maybe that’s why he was irritated with the media. May God Bless The Obama family and all those who loved for Toot.

Toot raised a phenomenal man and for that she will be known as a great woman.

  • Big K

Whether Sen. Obama wins or not (God Forbid!!), Toots can be proud of the man she helped to raise. He has been a Professor, Lawyer, Community Organizer, First Black everything, a good husband and father. That’s nothing to shake a stick at.

So sad… one day before she could see him possibly become President! His acceptance speech and party will be bittersweet.

Life is so short. Wish you could have stayed one more day “Toots”. One more day….

    My heart goes out…

    God rest her soul.

    -Jaye :(

  • miss jackson :)

She will watch him become the President of the United States of America, in Heaven while with the best company one could ask for: his very own mother and God. May she R.I.P and may he become elected tomorrow.

  • That’s Authentic Creole Baby

    oh my

  • Bohwe

We also need to remember the only male influence he had in his life his grandfather. His grandparents the Durhams(sp) and his mother raised a phenomenal human being, they made him into the man he is today.

  • BARACK THE VOTE!!

I really hate that she was just a day away from seeing her grandson become the president but I honestly and truly believe that she knew in her spirit that he is gonna prevail. I have already been sending a prayer up for him and his family’s safety and endurance. Now I pray that GOD continues to look after them and give them strength and coourage in their time of need. GOD bless and keep them.

  • Nubian_Goddess

  • DNICE

RIP Mrs. Dunham. I am sad to hear she passed, but having lost a member of my family to the disease over the summer, I am glad to know she is in a better place and no longer in pain. It’s almost as if she said my raising you has brought you this far, now it’s up to you. GO BARACK and GODSPEED!

Tomorrow, let’s get out there and win this thing, not just for Mrs. Dunham, but for those elders who fought all their lives and endured all the struggles knowing that they would not live to see this great and epic moment in our nation’s history, but kept fighting anyway because they knew that WE would be here to see this moment and change the world.

    What up Fallin!

  • Sistah_PhD2be

    @Hanibal

The difference is in voting for Obama you would not be compelled to call yourself a N**** any longer.

  • Hannibal (MCCAIN WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT)

THATS NOT TRUE, BECUZ NO MATTER WHO WINS, BLACKS ARE STILL GONNA BE TREATED THE SAME. IF BARACK WINS, BLACKS ARE STILL GOIN TO BE DOIN THE SAME THINGS THEY HAVE BEEN DOIN WHILE BUSH WAS PRESIDENT…

  • Sistah_PhD2be

    @hannibal

you missed the entire point of my comment. It is how you treat YOURSELF; if Obama becomes president maybe you would think about setting your standards far more higher, rather that referring to YOURSELF as a N*****.

Remember you have to facilitate the positive CHANGE in you!

  • Sistah_PhD2be

@True blood, I know the feeling, I was pacing the floors earlier while watching CNN and my husband was like “Sit you tail down already” SMH.

I am not studying him, because he is just as nervous as I am lol

  • WhatsYoursIsMine

Yes we can and yes we will. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dunham family and Barack and Maya. This is a tough time for everyone, and he keeps walking tall!
