Here’s today’s front page of the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper. This is literally the face of hope and everyone knows it. Joy Bryant, Chris Tucker and Mary Mary were all at an election event in LA while Oprah, Spike Lee and Messy Jesse were all at Grant Park in Chicago amidst the gargantuan turnout for the president elect.

    im on another level this morning!

    This day has come because of God first, and then are ancestors.

    It’s folks that have paid the ultimate price for the opportunity for us to make it.

    It’s like I have a sense of accomplishment for them, I feel as though we really put a smile on the faces of the ones who bled for us. To see my dad cry this morning was really moving. He’s 71 years old; he’s seen a lot of pain and upsets. He came up through the 50’s and 60’s. What we read about the Civil Rights Movement, my dad lived out the Civil Rights. And for him to see a day like this, it’s just amazing man.

    Great night. I was for Hillary at first for the longest but he won me over and I voted for him in the primary and the presidential. That was because I thought him the best candidate. But last night it really hit me emotionally for the first time.

    Can anyone ever really use the race card again? Can we really claim that because of our skin color we’re stopped from achieving what we desire most? Obama hasn’t opened the door, he’s walked through it. He’s proven that we can all walk through it. H e didn’t grow up rich with a silver spoon in his mouth. He worked his ***** off for everything he’s achieved. Hopefully his winning signals a change in the morale of African Americans in this country.

    At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter that he’s black. He represents change of the old… change from the Reagan and both Bush administrations. That finally, we can hope, and that America can return to being the superpower that it is. I don’t even know what to say, I’m so overwhelmed and inspired and happy and ugh, this is amazing. All things are possible in this country. I finally believe that *****.

    One last comment–before I go back to bed and try to wind down: this is a victory for ALL of us but especially for US: The African American community. The Obama family represents so many of ours: no we might not have gone to Ivy League colleges (yet), but we are smart, articulate, accomplished, hard-working and attractive people. We are a people of faith and when we persevere we WIN!! Ms Meca-you arent really surprised that folks are trying to undermine Obama’s win are you?? Come on now–you know how that goes. The good thing is, it wasn’t EVEN CLOSE! Obama clearly beat Mccain-they gotta find an excuse as to why so they’ll feel better. Now y’all party on. I’m going to spend my day off in prayer & gratitude, and writing down my feelings of today in a letter for my unborn babies to read.

    When haven’t we been spited? With every single accomplishment comes backlash. And I hate to try and make it sounds so simple, but I truly see our race uniting. I mean if even after this we cannot work ourselves out of the rut that we put ourselves in (albeit with major help from the man lol) then what will it take? What do people expect? To magically be educated? Magically be hired to jobs? That because a black man is in the oval office then of course everything should be handed to us? If that’s the case then the change that Obama represents, the message and the ideal has gone wasted. The Obama era’s peak was not reached when they put his face on a t-shirt and on some sneakers. He’s our leader and it’s our duty to follow. If we know now that they’ll try and make it even harder for us, then we should make it our business to work that much harder and give them no reasons, no excuses, no bs. And after what I saw last night, although I live in the pretty liberal city of NY, I really don’t see a black white thing anymore. We all united in wanting and needing change in this country. We’ve reached the point where we can’t even buy groceries, pay for school, or keep our homes. And these fears transcend and obliterate all color lines. I believe that. I really do. I know he will help us make better lives for ourselves. I believe in him.

    Last nite I cried. I woke up this morning and cried all the way to work. I never thoguht I would see such a thing so early in my lifetime. My family came here from Ghana to give my brother and I a better life and this just confirms my belief that nothing is impossible in America. Now there is no room for excuses. Yes, we have a black president, but all the responsibility does not lie with him. It’s up to everyone under him to help make things better. Not just the blacks, but the Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, etc. God bless the Obama family on their journey.

    I cried last night and literally fell to my knees and I’m still crying today. I can’t believe this day has come; I’m so overjoyed. My sons called me from Morgan State and they said “Ma as soon as we heard that Obama won all of us just poured out of our dorm rooms and just flooded the campus some were screaming, crying and hugging each other. Have any of you seen the videos on MSNBC, people across the country are celebrating President Obama’s victory, from Beijing, Brazil, Kenya, London, and beyond. They were chanting his name, unbelievable!!! I had to play Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna come and then came more tears.

    We did it,

    God Bless President Obama, our new First Lady and their lovely children.

    I totally co-sign No More Excuses for being a minority. Obama did it and he came from humble beginnings.. from a single parent home with no father, being homeless and sleeping car, and working his way through college. He had so many strikes against him and could of gone the opposite direction but he persevered.

    I’m running on pure adrenaline now, and this moment still seems surreal. The ramifications of last night are innumerable. I listened to a sister on the radio this morning who was in Grant Park and said that she has always been proud to be an African American but never as proud as last night. She was hugged and kissed by people of all races.

    The m*****ive crowd last night in Chicago to me symbolized what America has come. Our history as African Americans in this nation has been fraught with atrocities, injustices, and times of despair, but last night, to me, was a time of healing not only for blacks, but for whites as well. I saw the wonderful diversity that we have from the East to West Coast, and in those colors, I saw unity — unity and hope. Who would have thought that just decades away from the ugly specter of Jim Crow, in a land where our ancestors were once enslaved, that a black man would take the national stage as our president-elect.

    I’ve never been overly patriotic, but today I couldn’t be prouder to be an American.

    Today is a Great Day!!!

    The entire world was looking at the U.S. to see how we would evolve. Once thing Bush’s administrtion did do was teach us the importance of good leadership.

    Boooo to McCain’s suppporters booing Obama but those were the people who voted for McCain all the uncl*****y people, but Obama prevailed.

    I was nervous all night because sometimes you just never know but when they made the announcement on CNN…whew I was smiling my face off. I think I feel asleep smiling called everyone I knew…

    First of all thanks to the almighty God for allowing the impossible to take place on last night. I hope we all can continue to pray for the days ahead because Barack Obama has his work cut out for him. He will need the support of us all in order to turn the economy of this country around. No matter what race, religion, or creed you belong too please continue to keep him, his wife and children lifted up in prayer for his safety.     I just graduated high school in 2004 and on the bus people still called me blacky,midnight,ape,porch monkey, and so on. We have a long way to go.

    After I got older I just played along with it because I wasnt going to fight them and get kicked out of school.

    I do know a couple of ppl who work for the FBI and I have been told that it is fixed as well. Either way whatever. I think the course of this nation would be different if McCain had won. The president or rather president nominees are the face of a deciding group of ppl. They themselves are not the leaders. So whoever wins, its obvious that that group of ppl will rule. We are now under democratic rule and whoever else stands by them…..

All our problems will not go away (racism included), but this is a giant leap, and I hope we remember this day b/c the work has just begun. “Can’t” should never enter our vocabulary again. This man overcame all odds – he transcended race, bigotry, slander, lies, and went against one of the biggest names in politics (Clinton) only to rise. He kept the faith and now he’s POTUS. All Americans did this.

So, that means Obama got about 12% of his vote soley because of his race, which is more than his margin of victory!!! The polls were wrong, this wasn’t a blowout. Some polls had Obama up by 10% to 12%. It’s looking more like 5% to 6%.

    There’s no future for rational thinking people.

    I am a black mother of one born and living in England who recently asked my grandad (jamaican decent) why he picked England and not America to migrate to. SO wishin to be American right now. I’ve been an Obama supporter from the start and I have shed tears of joy at this historical triumph and what it represents for everyone. The only thing that saddens me is some of the more negative debates about this election result being a conspiracy by fellow blacks who don’t appear to be as elated as me and I can’t understand that since i’m proud to be black and given our history I feel a stronger sense of pride being able to witness this moment so what the hell is wrong with the reluctant ones who love to hate?

    oooooh I like this game

    My wedding will be on some tropical island….and I will have only 10 select ppl bear witness to it. Everyone will be barefoot and my bouquet will be made of gold/burgundy callalillies.     I’m sure black people solely voted for Obama based on his policy positions (Yeah, right). If white people voted that strongly for McCain, I am sure that “movement” would be called something else. I am sure white people who propped up the black vote did so, not to be “part of history” and to exorcise the inheritance of a post-colonial guilt complex. You cannot honestly believe that if it were a white man with Obama’s complete lack of accomplishment (and was a member of a racist church and had the *****ociations he had), he would have made it through the primaries. To be FAIR, a three-legged dog could have defeated the Republicans this year. You only had to look at the news anchors and pundits blubbering in their tears to know that America became a far sadder place. A place where AN INDIVIDUAL (not a black man) cannot be judged based on his merits for the position, but only chosen for his genetic ancestry. You people do not see him as a man, who began backpedalling (aka “lying”) in his victory speech about how he’ll need two terms to accomplish what he promised during his campaign would be done with the first 100 days of his presidency. But you’ll give him a p*****. John McCain was a poor candidate as well, but at least he sacrificed himself for his country and knew the true meaning of “honor”, something Obama could never hope to understand. Again, you all voted against Bush as a symbol, and rightfully so. But most people did not register a protest vote against McCain the individual as much as they registered a vote symbolically against the Republican party and Bush. People could not see McCain for the INDIVIDUAL he was, and his record of working across party lines. They were too caught up in the symbolism of Obama. Obama himself even said “t I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripe project their own views”. Become a symbol and you become EVERYTHING to Americans. Well when it comes to the next four years- prepare to be at best, disappointed, and at worst, have your lives fall further into ruin.
