    YES WE DID, NOW LET’S GET TO WORK, THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE MAN ITS ABOUT OUR NATION GOING TO TASK, TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ITS ACTIONS AND MOVING FORWARD WITH OR WITHOUT THOSE WHO REMAIN IN THE PAST. ONE NATION MANY VOICES ONE MOVEMENT!

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators (Keepin’It Real – D’Original)

    Historic moment in America without a doubt…

    I’m really proud to be an American and proud of the American People for real…

  • Lacombe Redbone (My President Is Black, My Lambo’s Blue, And I Be Got Damn If My Rims Ain’t 2!!)

    It gives me goosebumps!!!

    ***Yes We Can!!!!***

  • Lacombe Redbone (My President Is Black, My Lambo’s Blue, And I Be Got Damn If My Rims Ain’t 2!!)

    Me too, Slide! Me too!! :)

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators (Keepin’It Real – D’Original)

    Good…

    Now can we get our reparations?

    I want my 40 acres and a mule…

  • tlatrice

    he wanted to preach last night. all he needed was an organ player to ‘tune him up’. the crowd was ready to go with him, too. they was giving him that ‘yes we can’right on cue.

    that speech was lovely. i couldn’t stop smiling. i wished i was there. this is such a pivotal moment! i love the headline from the uk publication that said ‘one giant leap for mankind’. this is such a monumental step for all of americans!

    i like how his supporter kept it classy and applauded respectfully at the mention of mccain’s name. too bad his supporters were not a mature.

    let us not be weary in well doing, people! sheryl underwood said it this morning and i totally agree: let’s give obama a nation TO lead! let’s step up our game!

    YES WE CAN!!!!!

  • oreo

    Congrats to Obama for being the First Black President

    Hopefully he could Help us Canadians over here too

  • Corree

    I loved this speech because it was from the heart. Mr. Obama did not even read from a teleprompter or a piece of paper. Now that’s real. And he completely engaged the ENTIRE audience. I’m so proud and glad that I lived to see this historic day.

  • US AIR FORCE

    yeah we all knew he was going to bring it home… so please everyone, dont act a fool today at work.. the whites are watching us!

  • Robert Kelly

    This was refreshing to see a President I related to, a President that reflected the world and people I see on a daily basis, and a President that instilled a sense of Leadership and confidence I never experienced before in my lifetime. Not since the memorable speeches of JFK and MLK from the 60′s that I saw only on TV froma time before I was born have I been so inspired. Black People…..all people….it is our time to Rise be more than the sum of our past misdeeds!

  • http://aol.com McClain

    Yes we did! I am so proud to be an American right now. This means so much to our Nation. Look at the change people of every color uniting as one.

    Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring,

    Ring with the harmonies of liberty;

    Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,

    Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.

    Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,

    Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;

    Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,

    Let us march on till victory is won.

    Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,

    Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

    Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,

    Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?

    We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,

    We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;

    Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last

    Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

    God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,

    Thou Who hast brought us thus far on the way;

    Thou Who hast by Thy might, led us into the light,

    Keep us forever in the path, we pray.

    Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee.

    Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee.

    Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand,

    True to our God, true to our native land.

  • Anne

    This is the type of Black men who will help move our country forward: EDUCATED, INTELLECTUAL, SCIENTIFIC, MEN OF REASON, NOT EMOTION, MEN WHO DON”T ALWAYS MAKE EXCUSES BECAUSE OF THE PAST!!!! I have three wonderful Black sons who recently switched their majors over into science. This is just the tip of the iceberg people, we are reclaiming our reputations, our once good reputations as lovers of education, before the thugs and fools took over. Before the self-hating gang bangers who try to destroy our communities took our. Before the crazy preachers took over. Well, the pity party is over folks. The smart Black men and women are reclaiming our places in society.

  • Happy Today

    I agree people education is the key. Get your kids into tutoring at an early age for reading and math especially. Do all you can to encourage them to stay in school and learn a trade that will give them a livable wage.

  • lisalisa

    MY BABY WON!!! CONGRATULATIONS HONEY!!

  • WordtotheWise

    I’m still high (emotionally) off last night. One of the most beautiful moments was when Michelle came out and they hugged. You could just feel the electricity between them. You can just feel their love for one another, and when those babies came out on stage. I was over the top. I said, “Look at our first family. America did this!” To see the Obamas and Bidens was mind-blowing. I’m still overwhelmed.

  • da darkness

    Never in your life have you seen a cat so focus… dat is the one right there.

    YES WE DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes, WE DID!!!!!!!

    Still can’t believe it. Woke up this morning tired with swollen eyes from crying tears of JOY!! pinched myself to make sure it wasn’t a dream!! I have always been proud but today I am about to BURST with pride. In MY lifetime… Who knew!! We can tell our grandchildren and children about this!!!

  • cee

    mine i am touched by all of your comments…im a dude and i am touched and in emotional…this has been a struggle and to see our nation come together is a great thing…

  • ShavonDenise

    Yesterday was the best day of my life. I dont have kids, not married so yesterday, November 4 2008, was it. I was hugged by strangers. Cried with people I never met in my life and saw two grown men that didnt know each other cry and embrace. Im still crying because I think about all those people who fought, marched, bled, and died for this moment. I think about MLK’s last speech when he talked of a promise land and how he KNEW he wouldnt make it with us but we would get there, with or without him. THE AUDACITY OF HOPE! When the most staunch Republican is emotional and understands this moment, its amazing. This is wonderful and VA WE STOOD UP AND DID IT BABY!!!

  • da darkness

    Hip Hop was the key ingrediant to this historic event that was won… Hip Hop. It’s the rythm baby, better get you some somebody

  • Rock Witchu

    no more excuses, black people. no more blaming the man for our misfortunes. time to step up, man up, woman up, and do you with pride, dignity, and class.

    YES WE DID!!!

  • http://myspace.com/sybilblaize Sybil Blaize

    I notice that too .. Straight from the Heart!!! No paper no script Real True Obama

  • Dushawn

    I am ashamed of my past, but I have turned my life around. I am currently in a plumbing training course. I have now come to believe that anybody who tells you that you can’t make it in this country, is your enemy. Folks like this want you to fail. Anybody that keeps on crying about racism, just uses that for an excuse because they don’t wanna try to better themselves, they want to stay in the past and feel justified. I use to be like that but thank God I ain’t no more.

  • No more whining

    You are spot on, da darkness!! Don’t expect our new President to do everything for us, we have got to get up and stop complaining and do things for ourselves. Like the earlier comments stated, we have to start changing ourselves and our communities. We have the momentum to do whatever the hell we want to do in this country. No more damn excuses people.

  • team rainbow

    I was blessed to be in Grant Park (waaaaay in the back) to hear his speech and his victory is still sinking in. I love how he acknowledged the 106-year-old women and spotlighted all the events, good and bad, that she lived to witness. Obama knows he is standing on the shoulders of the ancestors and we must all have his back. It was great that he spoke of diversity; Black white, young old, gay straight. We all need to tear down the walls that separate us and help move this country in the right direction.

  • 1morepleez

    Bk was one big party last night, everybody honking their horns, hugging and crying in the streets.

    Dead silence at the office today though. It’s like a funeral procession over here. There was a big crowd gathered on my floor, and by the time i reached my office, everyone went dead quiet. I see why so many friends took today off. But I wouldn’t miss this for nothing, it’s the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard here.

  • v-fromRock

    I agree give Jessie a break.. if it wasn’t for him and so many others who fought along side him, before and after Obama wouldn’t be in the position he is now. But regardless of how Obama got there..thank God he is here NOW.

  • MRS. DALLAS

    I CRIED!! THAT SPEECH WAS SOOOO TOUCHING, IT WAS ON MARTIN LUTHER KING, MALCOLM X LEVEL. I VOTED AND I HELPED MAKE HISTORY!! YES WE DID!!!!!

  • Ms. T

    THANK YOU JESUS FOR OBAMA! YES WE DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    and how awesome is it to have a black first lady as well? obama is a great man no matter his color..he represents both sides..WHITE AND BLACK FOR SURE and everyone in between! he went from being on food stamps to being the president!!!!!!!!!! he is the man for this country!

  • Laila

    no more excuses, black people. no more blaming the man for our misfortunes. time to step up, man up, woman up, and do you with pride, dignity, and class.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO MORE BLAMING THE MAN..THE MAN IS NOW ONE OF US..ITS TIME TO TRULY MAKE THAT CHANGE..

  • Cashmoneychick416

    I have listened to his speech a few times and I cry every time. When he talks about his wife..and daughters… !!! May the Lord watch over him as he attemps to clean up Bush’s mess!!

  • ebGCH

    It was moving, powerful, and exactly what I expected.

    Showing maturity, being humble, giving hope, and being inspiring.

    God Bless America!!!!!

    We CAN make change!!!!!!

  • kimberlee

    @ Pynk…

    he probably reacted like that because alot of good white people are tired of defending themselves because of the kind of racist assholes to which you’re referring. i for one never want to be lumped in with them.

    there are more of us who see the truth, understand the past, and hope for a better future for us all.

    we came together yesterday….

    and people have been saying this all day, but it’s true, this is just the BEGINNING. I believe Obama has opened the door for healing in this country. But my fear is that before the wounds can be healed, alot of pain will surface first. And I hope that we’re smart enough to see that for what it is…and not a set back. Hope you’re getting what i’m saying….

  • Pynk

    @Kimberlee

    I do get what you’re saying. Thank you for responding. I never thought about how bad they could feel for being lumped (feeling that way anyway) into the same category as those racist jerks. I think you are so right, the pain will surface before we heal. I think it may already be starting. I really didn’t understand and now you’ve helped me see another aspect of this all. Thank you…

  • Redd Tony aka Earth Sign

    Congratulations President Obama…..

  • Ms. Littlejohn

    I’m crying right now!! You guys and that pic of him and Michelle got me LOL!!

  • Yeswecan

    I went online to tmz.com to see what they had to say about our “NEW PRESIDENT”. The first thing posted this morning was “Fidel Sues Obama Campaign……In a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Rodriguez claims he sold $10,000 worth of postcards, paper flyers and other advertising materials to Californians for Obama and Californians for Change, but says he was stiffed out of the $4,740 balance”. OBAMA WON THE ELECTION AND THAT IS ALL THEY HAD TO SAY!!! his campaign is being sued for 4,740.00 not 400,000.00. I take it they are not happy about Obama winning, but who cares. YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kimberlee

    @ Pynk,

    but your friend with the guns/money remark is whacked. she, you should b-slap.

    it’s amazing to me that people can rant and rave about things they no nothing about. can’t tell you how many dumb-ass ignorant people (mostly white) i talked to throughout this campaign… and proud to say i converted several!!! from good friends who were on the fence and weren’t paying attention to the platforms at all and didn’t know the stakes, to the indian guy at the 7-11 up the street…. it was grass roots.

    oh, and yea, that pic is gorgeous. i wish i had a man love me like that…makes my heart melt. i have another picture of the first family with the oval office seal behind them. it’s amazing.

    it’s time to pray for his safety…. before and after January 20th.

  • Nina Knows

    @rockwithu

    I love that Obama won. But lets not go around telling blacks “no excuses”. There will always be a form of racism against blacks no matter who the president is. We have to continue to educate our children and be good representatives for our communities. We have power in ourselves to help ourselves. I hate that people are not going to let him be president, but hold him on a higher pedestal when the fact of the matter is he is still a man. He has made a perfect example for his family and daughters now it’s about someone else being the leader in their own family.

    Obama is a man that has acheived alot. But in no way is he going to save everyone. Each individual still has a responsibility to carry their own and let in flourish into better examples. And sweetie I dont recall what Sean Bell went thru an excuse. Some things happen to blacks just because their black. Not about how educated you are, or how positive you are. some things will never change.

    I just dont want Obama to take the fall for cop-out people looking for him to raise their kids. He is a great example and role model, but he does not live in your home.

    I dont see ALL blacks making excuses, I see people sometimes trying to make it in life, who get the short end of the stick, because someone else is an ignorant bigot. I guess the biggest part of the change starts with ourselves.

  • Nita

    Redd Tony aka Earth Sign wrote, “Congratulations President Obama…..”

    You know, that was classy of you, Redd Tony. A hug for you today, the morning after.

  • BLACK POWER

    WOW!!…… IM IN AFRICA RIGHT NOW AND ALL I CAN SAY IS EVERYONE IS HAPPY TO SEE HISTORY MADE AND I WANT TO PERSONALLY CONGRATULATE THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES FOR COMING TOGETHER FOR A OUR BOY OBAMA AND WE CANT FORGET THE WHITE AND LATINO VOTE AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HELPED BRING OUR BROTHER TO THE WHITE HOUSE…MAN WE ARE GOING TO CELEBRATE UNTIL HE GETS INTO OFFICE ….YOU COULDN’T OF PICKED A BETTER MAN…..GOD BLESS

  • LADY ARCHITECT (DOING BIG THINGS AT 23)

    Yeswecan,

    i SAW THAT THIS MORNING. I THOUGHT THAT WAS CRAZY. YOU SHOULD SEE ALL OF THE RACIST COMMENTS PEOPLE LEFT. I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND THE MEANING BEHIND THEM CALLING HIM A SOCIALIST AND MARXIST. I THINK ONE PERSON SPEWED IT OUT AND PEOPLE JUST RAN WITH IT WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHAT THOSE TERMS MEAN. I ALSO NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY RICH PEOPLE GOT TAX BREAKS OR PAID LOW INCOME TAXES AS IF THEY WERE LOWER CLASS. AND TO THINK MCCAIN WAS GONNA KEEP THIS MACHINE RUNNING AS HE TAXED HEALTHCARE. SMH IT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW MUCH PEOPLE ACTUALLY READ INTO THE POLICIES.

  • http://jose.com Jose

    I am so happy! He got most of the Latino vote. Black and Latino working together!

  • LADY ARCHITECT (DOING BIG THINGS AT 23)

    Pynk,

    DONT LET IGNORANCE UPSET YOU. SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER GROW OUT OF THEIR GENERATIONAL VALUES. THERE WERE MANY BLACK PEOPLE ON TV THAT SAID THEY WOULDN’T VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE WAS AN ELITIST. IN OTHER WORDS HE WAS “TOO EDUCATED” WHAT PARENT WOULDN’T WANT TO SEE THEIR CHILD GO TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS AND GRADUATE TOP OF THEIR CLASSES IS WHAT CONFUSED ME. I WENT TO AN IVY LEAGUE HBCU AND GRADUATED WITH MANY HONORS AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF BOTH MY PARENTS AND MY LIFE. MCCAIN HAD NO POLICIES LINED UP FOR THE OLD VETS WHOSE HEALTHCARE IS CURRENTLY BEING DENIED. I LIVE IN VA SO I SEE IT ALL THE TIME OLD VETS ON THE SIDE OF ROADS AND COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW THEY SERVED AND ARE NOW RUNNING OUT OF CARE. HOW MANY MORE LIVES ARE WE GONNA LOSE TO A WAR TO STABILIZE SOMEONE ELSE’S GOVERNMENT WHILE WE ARE IN A CRISIS? WHAT HAPPEN TO THE AGENDA GOING TO GET AL QUEDA? THOSE PEOPLE ARE BOMBING OUR SOLDIERS BECAUSE WE ARE INVADING THEIR COUNTRY. IF A BUNCH OF IRAQIS CAME HERE RIDING TANKS DOWN THE STREETS WITH BIG GUNS, WOULDN’T YOU FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE. TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT.

    My shout out to the youth, Latinos/Hispanic, whites, blacks, Asians, Arabs who made this possible. You really stepped up and made it clear that you were ready for a new path, to take command of this country. You chose hope over fear and intellect over race/incompetence. Now non-whites know that they can tell their kids they can become president and it won’t be a joke.

    Barack Obama = Martin Luther King + John F. Kennedy.

    Now, for the THUGS/Ghetto-dwellers out there: start taking responsiblity for yourselves.

    Start with the community service and trainings like Obama says.

  • always knew

    Now, for the THUGS/Ghetto-dwellers out there: start taking responsiblity for yourselves. Start with the community service and trainings like Obama says.

    @ Wisdom – You got that right. Now is time for them to seize the opportunity to make a change. Fight harder to not give excuses.

  • Ara

    Barack Obama ran the best race of any election, he surpassed so many records from the amount of money he was able to generate for his campaign, to his record breaking crowds that he was able to draw, from his ability to unite people of all races and from all walks of life, from his soul stirring and inspirational speeches, he has captured the admiration and attention of people not only in the United States, but around the world. People are celebrating around the world as much as we are here in the States. Barack was determined to run a positive campaign, based on political issues, and tried to stay away from the mud slinging tactics.

    Barack Obama is the epitome of intelligence, eloquence, style and class. Swagger is off the hook. These people have never seen a presidential canidate so cool, but also has his shyt so together. Barack Obama worked and earned the position of President of the United States, he beat the powers to be in Washington’s inner circle. He beat the best. He beat them against all odds. He did’nt just beat McCain he annihilated him, and he did it with that beautiful smile on his face. I tell ya …….. that’s a baaaddddd man!!!!

  • kimberlee

    @ always knew….

    You know, i remember the very first time i saw Barack Obama on television… it was 4 years ago at the DNC… and I knew, KNEW he would be our President someday. I’m so glad it only took 4 years… but, I KNEW TOO!!! Something about him resonates with my soul. I can hardly work today!!!!

  • Pynk

    @kimberlee…. I’M NOT DOING ANYTHING AT WORK TODAY! I didn’t do a damn thing yesterday and today is no better. I can’t concentrate! I’m so happy.

  • FallinPoet(We finally have a hero we can believe in!)

    ………..

  • Oshie says: YES WE CAN! Wooooooooooooot!

    @ Pynk: Get back to work and stop screwing around! LOL

  • Rock Witchu

    @nina knows

    i never said ‘all blacks’. but you can’t deny that there are alot of blacks, and whites for that matter, who use racism as an excuse. obama symbolizes the fact that racism is no longer our greatest obstacle. of course all blacks don’t use it as an excuse, but there are some who do. all i’m saying is now that excuse is just not gonna cut it anymore.

    and for those shouting to ‘give jesse a break’, he said out of his own mouth that he wanted to ‘cut his nuts off’. so explain to me why we should give his deadbeat ass a break.

  • Pynk

    Oshie!!! LMAO!

    Did my boss tell you to say that? I can’t concentrate!

  • Ara

    Racisn is real, but should not be used as an excuse not to excel and progress. There was racism all up and through these entire election, but Barack was never detered and kept his eyes on the prize.

    no it’s not just you, and so many white people have said hello to me today, it’s uncanny

  • Nina Knows

    @corree… my thoughts exactly.

    @something to think about…. you posted that to say what? every attempt at a compliment was diluted by some form of fake ass political drawback. Whats the point. That was just a tactful cop-out. Oh I would congradulate Obama and his family, BUT i’m an up tight hater who refuse to just give the man his props, and leave it at that. Who ever wrote that sounds like a salty ass cracker.

    Obama’s speech was just incredible. He has that ability to engage and inspire the masses. You could tell near the end of the campaign he would win because he kept getting stronger with more and more support. To people talking about Jesse Jackson: Jackson has done a lot for young black people. He is a true warrior for blacks, and helped pave the way for President Obama. Have you ever stopped to think that Jesse may have made those comments to ‘help’Obama? He knew that if the average white person connected him with Obama, it would probably have a negative effect on Obama. Jesse Jackson has been in politics a long time and there is no way he mistakingly made those comments about Obama. This was calculated and the tears you saw from Jesse were a culmination of many years of blood, sweat, and tears—-so yall need to get off Jesse.

    I’m sure black people solely voted for Obama based on his policy positions (Yeah, right). If white people voted that strongly for McCain, I am sure that “movement” would be called something else. I am sure white people who propped up the black vote did so, not to be “part of history” and to exorcise the inheritance of a post-colonial guilt complex. You cannot honestly believe that if it were a white man with Obama’s complete lack of accomplishment (and was a member of a racist church and had the associations he had), he would have made it through the primaries. To be FAIR, a three-legged dog could have defeated the Republicans this year. You only had to look at the news anchors and pundits blubbering in their tears to know that America became a far sadder place. A place where AN INDIVIDUAL (not a black man) cannot be judged based on his merits for the position, but only chosen for his genetic ancestry. You people do not see him as a man, who began backpedalling (aka “lying”) in his victory speech about how he’ll need two terms to accomplish what he promised during his campaign would be done with the first 100 days of his presidency. But you’ll give him a pass. John McCain was a poor candidate as well, but at least he sacrificed himself for his country and knew the true meaning of “honor”, something Obama could never hope to understand. Again, you all voted against Bush as a symbol, and rightfully so. But most people did not register a protest vote against McCain the individual as much as they registered a vote symbolically against the Republican party and Bush. People could not see McCain for the INDIVIDUAL he was, and his record of working across party lines. They were too caught up in the symbolism of Obama. Obama himself even said “t I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripe project their own views”. Become a symbol and you become EVERYTHING to Americans. Well when it comes to the next four years- prepare to be at best, disappointed, and at worst, have your lives fall further into ruin.

  • Reading Up

    I think “Dreams From My Father” should be required reading now. I see some try to use the rise of Obama as an excuse to big up “interracial couples”. First of all, how foolish. On this historic occasion, all some can try to do is defend some swirl action? But secondly, I say read the book Obama wrote because you will be surprised at what his outlook on race is. Make no mistake, he knows he is a black man.

    Jesse Jackson is one of the early pioneers of the African American Civil Rights movement. He was right there with Rev. Martin Luther King when they marched from Selma Ala to Montgomery Ala. for voting rights. Jesse might have had some controversial and questional behavior, but that does not negate his contributions toward the civil rights movement. He helped paved the way for a Barack Obama.
