Obama’s Family in Africa Rejoice

Posted by Bossip Staff

Barack’s family went off in Africa once it was announced that their blood was elected the president of America:

KOGELO, Kenya – Barack Obama’s Kenyan relatives and Africans across the continent sang, danced in the streets and wrapped themselves in U.S. flags Wednesday to cheer for America’s first black president. Kenya will party for two days, after the president declared a national holiday.

Scenes of jubilation broke out in the western village of Kogelo, where Obama’s late father was born. A group of exuberant residents picked up the president-elect’s half-brother Malik and carried him through the village. “Unbelievable!” Malik shouted, leading the family in chanting, “Obama’s coming, make way!” Obama’s step-grandmother and other relatives also poured out of the family homestead to salute a man seen by many Kenyans as a “son of the soil.” Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki declared a public holiday on Thursday in honor of Obama. Many stayed up all night or woke before dawn to celebrate his victory. Obama’s relatives and other villagers gathered around a TV set up in a garden in Kogelo, rejoicing and pumping their arms in the air. Across Africa, many are hoping an Obama presidency will help the vast continent, the poorest in the world. Obama’s victory was also likely to seal America’s reputation in the minds of many Africans as a land of staggering opportunity. “He’s in!” said Rachel Ndimu, 23, a Kenyan business student who joined hundreds of others for an election party at the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger, which began at 5 a.m.

“I think this is awesome, and the whole world is backing him,” Ndimu said as people raised glasses of champagne.

The jubilation is certainly called for. This is election marks the beginning of the end of limitations for people of color worldwide. The African’s have every right to celebrate the victory of their Son of The Soil. And we enjoy watching them work that, twerk that.

Pop the hood to see Obama posing with his fam and the authentic jubilee video of his Kenyan family after his win… YES WE DID!!

    OK BOSSIP, I GET IT!!!

  3. soulwoman

    Amazing how the public hardly heard anything about the black side of the family during the election but his white side was mentioned constantly.

  4. The Bear (I bleed swagger)

    I think that one of the greatest aspects of Obama’s victory is the support that is being shown in all the foreign countries. Its like the whole world is ready to ride with the USA again after being alienated by Bush.

    One quote that I found hillarious was on CNN this morning from a man in Beirut, Lebanon… he said:

    I AM IN LOVE WITH AMERICA AGAIN!!!!

    I laughed so hard.

  5. Redd Tony aka Earth Sign

    Those are his peoples huh…I wonder how they living over there?

  6. The Bear (I bleed swagger)

    @ SOULWOMAN

    In this case I can genuinely say the end justify’s the means.

    You get further in life by putting your best foot forward. Obama would not have won the election by scaring white people.

  7. I am just as happy as they are and I am not even from America or Kenya…I stayed up all night and morning watching CNN. I just could not get enough of the history!

  8. The Bear (I bleed swagger)

    @ Redd Tony

    Trust… they will be living LARGE!!!

    Just as I thought he would Obama has already vastly improved the USA’s image around the world.

    The healing touch of righteousness has already started to take hold.

    {J-Hood walks up to the mic in a black strapless sequence gown. The crowd goes absolutely crazy} {The lights dim and a single spotlight is on Barack and Michelle and one on J-Hood}

    {J-Hood} I have a song for you from everyone who loves and supports you.

    {J-Hood bows her head and takes a shallow breath maybe in remembrance of the love ones she lost and wishing they could see this moment.}

    {Slowly raising her head… she sings}

    And…. We… Are… tellin you…

    We’re not goin ………

    You’re the best pres we’ll ever know.

    Hey….

    How’s it goin?

    I’m over here smilin like da Joka! :-)

  29. Katherine

    @ Soulwoman, we didnt hear much of Barack’s family in Africa because he wasn’t raised by them. He only met his father(where his Kenyan roots originated) once when he was 9 anyway.

    My granfather lives in Uganda and he says everyone is excited about this…it goes to show how many borders this election crossed.

  30. Sydney

    I love all the Obama threads. Keep them comin.’ :)

    BTW, there are more photos from across the country and the world posted at thehuffingtonpost(dot)com. They’re very moving.

    Oh, and Newsweek has a story out today with a behind-the-scenes look at the Obama and McCain campaigns. Below is an excerpt:

    NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

    Why not bring it up? Why must we always ignore what’s obvious. There is a reason why his Black family wasn’t brought up alot. I mean really, let’s stop being blind here.

  37. I am not an american, I am a canadian but I was so move and proud of Barac out pouring of support from allover the world, it time for us to move forward and put race behind us, ti time for us to unite as one. I was so touched by Mcain speech, I do hope both of them could work together for the better of american. It sad to say that Sara Palin hurt Mcain changes of winning, have he choosen someone else I do beleive he would of had a vicitory. God Bless America.

  38. trs

    I am so thankful that the American people made the right choice. The historical nature of this election is so powerful that I cried all last night. We have a Black man in office yall!! :)

    Now everyone make sure to drink a lot of water because there are going to be a lot of “salty” crackers walking around today!

    Yes we DID!!!!!! :) Obama 08!

  39. Please.....

    Coon Baby. You seem so disturbed by the fact that a black man is President. Get over your ignorance. As far as I am concerned everyone is mixed with something. Check your family line you’ll see that you are too. Nevertheless, Obama calls himself black, his skin color and hair texture says he’s black, and so that’s the end of the discussion. His father’s black genes superceded his mother’s. Get over it!!!!!!!!!!!! Hail to the black president. You will be hearing that whether you like it or not. Who cares.

  40. @COON BABY

    Isn’t is a fact that you take the race of the male? The male is dominent(sp) right? His biological father is african period! His mother is white. That makes him black. Now if his mother was black and his father was white he would be white even though at times the black gene is apparent! SO STOP COMPARING IT TO DIFFERENT DOG BREEDS! HE IS A BEAUTIFUL AND INTELLIGENT HUMAN BEING!!!!

  41. The Bear (I bleed swagger)

    @ Coon Baby

    Apparently two normal humans got together and gave birth to an imbecile who call its self coon baby. But we still regard it as human.

  44. The Bear (I bleed swagger) My dog is GIDDY as hell about Obama's victory

    Yall like my gravie???

  45. blaq

    @ coon

    your name says it all. If you want to talk about humans and genetics, here we go there are dominant and recessive genes, african genes are dominant that’s why a black person can have a baby with any race of person and it will be obvious they are of african decent. If you have any black blood 90% of the time it will show up, JLo has full lips and a fat ass because of the African blood in the puerto rican people. Shit same with Kim K, she is armenian and they have black (african) blood too, check out a map you’ll see how close they are. Anyway I don’t know why I’m wasting my time trying to explain anything to someone who refers to themselves as coonbaby on a day like today, take your coon ass to Rush Limbaughs homepage where you can be with like-minded folks.

  46. @ Redd Tony

    You sound like you got drunk off of haterade

    Wow!!! Are you really that cynical. People like you always try to pick somebody apart because you have a magnify glass looking for any crumb of doubt.

    What have you done, if your hating that much, why don’t you become the president of the U.S.

    We been through hell and back and that’s all you can say about the MAN. There was a time when we were hung, slain, burned, etc for even trying to get the right to vote. GET A GRIP

    Some people embace their culture and don’t want anything different. You talking about the media trying to put thoughts in our head but that sure is the Pot, calling the Kettle BLACK

  52. Ken

    All of you have been institutionally brain washed!!! Go and learn the history of the one drop rule, and what laws played in defining who we are….. People only define him based on his pigmentation— in a true sense he is and will always be “BIRACIAL”

    And as far as his father’s side of the family not being in the media- I saw no need for them to be- he only met them about 4 years ago, he was not raised by them, so therefore they are non-existent- Just like his absent father before he passed!

    This is a historical moment for Someone of “direct” Color to become president— but do some research people if you all are so hooked on the one drop rule—you will find out that at least 5 presidents had African ancestry.

  53. lil latte

    @soulwoman

    I asked because I am upset that no matter what it’s still never good enough to some people and there is always people that have to complain about something no matter what it is. I certainly am not blind, it’s obvious the man isn’t white so just what is it we are ignoring, but why can’t we just be so happy he won why do we have to find something to complain about? Well regardless I am happy today, we have made history and my vote counted I just hope you are happy too. I agree, there wasn’t much talk about his father’s side but lets not complain today,lets live in and love the moment right now ok?

  54. BeReal

    @Coon – In the words of 2 PAC – I was given this world I didn’t make it

    I find it strange that normally when someone is 1/8 black that person is considered black by American standards…now that there is a “Presidency” involved he becomes bi-racial..WOW!!!

    I mean as far back as we can date history slave masters have been having their way with black women and those children were considered “black” and this is something that carried over into generations now all of a sudden Obama is bi-racial.

    Now Obama lives in the real world and HE identifies himself as a black man because he knows how the story goes..so please lets get past African, White Bi-racial he is still a smart and intelligent man who is also black and his wife is black and his children are black so get over it

  55. blaq

    @ Nigerian

    u are ignorant, African father, American mother equals African American. We call ourselves African Americans because 99.9% of us have white ancestors as well he has the same racial background as all African Americans. Obama grew up in America as a black person and had to suffer all the injustices as the rest of us.

  56. Please.....

    @ soulwoman

    The media is like coon baby who have a hard time accepting this man’s identity as being a black man. It kills them even more to acknowledge his African blood line. Lol it’s hilarious to me because they have to swallow that sh** whether they like it or not. Obama is so focused that he doesn’t have time for the silly games that the media plays. That’s why I like him. He ignores a whole lot of ignorance. They are playing these stupid games all by them selves because he’s no a participant.

You wouldn’t spend so much time trying to make him something else. Damn, white folks just can’t allow blacks to be happy for sh**. If you or any other person from your race spotted him on the streets before he ran for office you would’ve called him black. I hope you and your white family enjoy living under the leadership of a black man.

  65. blaq

  68. Joe

    I know this is a little off topic, but I want everybody to stop riding Jesse Jackson. He made the “I want to cut his balls off” and the “He looks down on black people” remarks only as a ploy, so that white people did not feel threatened about Obama being on some Black power hang-up, which he isn’t. Jesse Jackson sacrificed his integrity and reputation so that you can enjoy this day! Did you see the tears of joy rolling down his face last night? I want everyone here to pass this fact on through emails and I want Bossip to recognize there mistake. I want all of these so called politically invigorated rappers to recognize this fact also. That brother sacrificed his integrity to HELP ensure that you could enjoy this day! OBAMA!!!

  69. MissBlaze43

    OMG!! I’ve been crying, laughing, smiling since last night.

    Every time I read something that mentions Martin Luther King, Jr. / President Obama or when they mention how we went from cleaning the white house to living in the white house….. I can’t explaine it…

    When my 3-year old grandson called last night, screaming “OBAMA-OBAMA, we won, grandma, we won” the tears just ran down my face. He doesn’t know why he’s screaming OBAMA-OBAMA, but he will.

    Make scrapbooks for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren – LET THEM SEE WHAT IT WAS LIKE THROUGH OUR EYES BECAUSE THIS IS OUR HISTORY AND CAN’T NOBODY TELL THEM ABOUT IT BETTER THAN WE CAN!!!

    Newspapers are selling at record-numbers because everybody whom I talked to said they’re making scrapbooks for EVERY CHILD IN THE FAMILY!!!

    From the Olympics to the Presidency WE HAVE A LOT OF HEROES TO FILL THOSE SCRAPBOOKS!!!

    *******************************

    Its been a long – a long time comin’, but I know A CHANGE GON’ COME! 0 YES IT IS!!!

    Whom ever knows the words to that song, please put it up!

  70. soulwoman

    @lil latte

    Pointing out the obvious is not complaining. Trust me, I didn’t have to “find” it because it is so blatantly in my face. That’s why it’s so much foulness going on in the world, and people get away with so much wrong doing, because we always want to overlook things and only focus on the sunshine. Yes, I will embrace the good but I will never act as though the bad doesn’t exist. Change is not going to come with that mentality.

    @bla – J-lo and Kim are NOT black. Period.

  71. The Bear (I bleed swagger) My dog is GIDDY as hell about Obama's victory

    I mis-typed… Sorry about that.

    Sorry but this time I can’t fault the media. Honestly if you go to white sites they don’t think his grandmother was highlighted enough. They claim there was more pictures of his STEP-grandmother who he barely knew than his white grandmother who actually helped raise him. They even detailed a story where he went to visit her for only two hours without his wife and kids…they are also pissed that he referred to his grandparents as ‘regular white folk’…

    I mean this is what happens when fathers are deadbeats…kids grow up to be famous and barely acknowledge YOU or your family.

    I think this is what you were referencing — Below are the lyrics to Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna Come:

    I was born by the river in a little tent

    Oh and just like the river I’ve been running ever since

    It’s been a long, a long time coming

    But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

    It’s been too hard living but I’m afraid to die

    Cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky

    It’s been a long, a long time coming

    But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

    I go to the movie and I go downtown

    Somebody keep telling me don’t hang around

    It’s been a long, a long time coming

    But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

    Then I go to my brother

    And I say brother help me please

    But he winds up knocking me

    Back down on my knees

    Ohhhhhhhhh…..

    There been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long

    But now I think I’m able to carry on

    It’s been a long, a long time coming

    Movin’ on Up [Theme from The Jeffersons] Lyrics

    Well we’re movin on up,

    To the east side.

    To a deluxe apartment in the sky.

    Movin on up,

    To the east side.

    We finally got a piece of the pie.

    Fish don’t fry in the kitchen;

    Beans don’t burn on the grill.

    Took a whole lotta tryin’,

    Just to get up that hill.

    Now we’re up in the big leagues,

    Gettin’ our turn at bat.

    As long as we live, it’s you and me baby,

    There ain’t nothin wrong with that.

    Well we’re movin on up,

    To the east side.

    We finally got a piece of the pie.

    The new census will be made where people can identify with 2 or more racial groups because there are such a variety. I mean you will still be black just like Obama is still black and Tiger is still black, that is why it is called self-identification, it depends on how the person identifies themself.

    Really this is a stupid arguement, Obama has never dnied his African ancestry so why are others trying to define him???

    Some thoughts from Obama on his racial identity, BTW:

    That was the question 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft posed to Obama in an interview that aired on Sunday. Kroft asked the biracial senator why he considered himself black even though he was raised in a white household. Obama responded by telling Kroft that he never decided to be black: “I think if you look African-American in this society, you’re treated as an African-American.”

    More from Obama:

    Obama, for his part, settled this debate some time ago. “If I’m outside your building trying to catch a cab,” he told Charlie Rose, “they’re not saying, ‘Oh, there’s a mixed race guy.’” Obama understands what all blacks, including myself, know all too well — that Amadou Diallo’s foreign ancestry could not prevent his wallet from morphing into a gun in the eyes of the police.

    Excerpt below from recent Obama interview with Katie Couric:

    Couric: There’s been a debate about the Bradley effect, which as you know, in essence, is when some respondents lie to pollsters and say, “Sure, we’d vote for an African American candidate,” but on Election Day they just don’t do it. A lot of people say it’s a phenomenon that’s outdated, overstated and misunderstood. Having said that, do you think we’ll see evidence of that on Election Day?

    Obama: You know, I have to tell you, I’m in the camp that says it’s outdated and overstated. I mean, the fact of the matter is that people have been worrying incessant about whether or not I’m hampered because I’m an African American since we were campaigning in Iowa. The reason I’m sitting here two days before election as a Democratic nominee is because the American people ultimately care about whether or not you can do the job.

  135. I believe his often times critized speach on men of color being more responsible as fathers is what has led to the small coverage of his African roots. His father did not spend anytime with him growing up, as his father choose to explore his own ambitions instead of caring for his family, therefore, leaving Mr Obama without a link to his African side. However, Mr Obama did write in his book of his African heritage and has mentioned his fathers family several times. His more immediate family we all know were his mother’s parents who raised him, and as such are more familiar to the public. I don’t understand the questions on his racial identity, we are all human. He is an extra-ordinarily accomplished, educated leader for us all, OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE!!!

    Oh, and about those “young and dumb” voters, Redd — there was a record turnout in this election.

    Highest turnout rate since ‘08 — 1908: Provided the number stands, the turnout rate for yesterday’s election was the highest in 100 years, according to the estimate from turnout guru Dr. Michael McDonald at George Mason University. Almost 137 million (136,631,825) went to the polls — 64.1% of the voting-eligible population. 1960 saw 63.7% of the populace go out to vote; In 1908, 65.7% voted. It was, of course, the most people ever to go to the polls topping 2004’s 122 million. That’s 12% increase from 2004. For those wondering why the current total vote in the presidential adds up to approximately 117 million, note that it’s going to climb. There is still a ton of vote missing on the West coast.

    That’s a profoundly ignorant and offensive statement to make, and I believe you have expressed similar sentiments in the past.

    Also, I’ve posted repeated references to Obama’s own statements on his racial identity. If you need more, just say the word.

    Barack considers himself African American and so do most Americans. However, he is biracial. There are alot of African Americans with varying percentages of white and Native American blood so traditionally, no matter how light or dark Black people were in the United States were, we were always considered Black or in modern day terms African American. Since his experiences and wife and kids are African American he identifies with us more because he was raised here, although his paternal father is Kenyan.

    @Redd

    I know about the X-box advertising. I also know about Obama’s site and blog, which received millions of hits, along with videos of his speeches on YouTube and other materials that were readily accessible to younger voters, who were probably more engaged in this election than ever before.

    I’m thrilled that people voted — they stood in line for hours to cast their ballots, many for the first time in their lives. That’s monumental and it sets a pattern for future elections.

    You are Nigerian American. But Barack chooses to call himself an African American as does Hallie Berry. African Americans are different from immigrant groups of Africans in the United States because we’ve been in the United States for 300 years and we are the most visible “African” people world-wide as it related to progression.

    i feel u thou, but my mom is white and my dad is african so i consider myself to be nigerian american and never african american!! i am light skinned too.

  167. stx

    @ coon baby, what, are you trying to claim obama now, just because he is president. African Americans were not the ones who came up with the one drop rule. It was implemented by the white race. It stated that just one drop of black blood made you black. So there you have it the one drop of black blood in Obama makes him black. end of story.

  168. MissBlaze43

    I can’t believe that so many of you are ACTUALLY going on about the black / white side of this man’s family.

    Check this out: most of us (black people) have white people’s blood in our lineage, but do we go on and on about it? No. President Obama’s is just closer than ours. For him, it is his grandmother. For most of us, it was our great-great-great grandmothers or grandfathers whom were white.

    Please, let’s not stray from the significance of this momentum.

    We have witnessed having the first AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!

    Everything else is sooooo not revelent and not worth all the energy in trying to explain.

    EMBRACE IT AND OWN IT:

    WE’VE GOT A BLACK MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!

  169. Kira@Nigerian dude

    HERE WE GO WITH LABELS…

    C-Baby I cannot even use that word you have to be under 25 to have written that, no offense to those under 25, but only someone who does not know the true history of the word would want to call themselves that, do yourself a favor and do some research, words have power, whether you believe it or not.

    Symantics, regarding whether he is black or white, African -American. The White Media defined him as an African American a long time ago,because if he can be defined as the other the non-white he could be dismissed, his American heritage could be called into question–as one lawyer did with his lawsuit requiring an injunction due to his assertion that he was not an American citizen. The human commodity trade laws known as slavery (one drop of blood) have also caused him to be known as not bi-racial, but black, African American or if you perfer Kenyan American etc.

    Who Cares, the point is he is of a black community, considers himself black, but does not let his color limit him. I wish some of us in here were smart enough to do the same.

    You are not limited by color or ethnicity, haven’t you been watching and listening, the only limitations you have in life are those you place on yourself.

    No one is waving the “we all have it easy now” flag, he had to fight harder, smarter and better, to have this same opportunity and that is what we have to do. PERIOD!

    Stop letting social constructs keep you in a box.

    I am black, I am Nigerian, I am American, I am female, I am Human. The only thing that matters is that last statement.

    Peace brothers and sisters, stop self hating, seperating and using a white man’s concept to define who we are.

  174. stx

    @nigerian dude, are you serious or what? Obama not really being african American? His father is african from Kenya. His mother was american from Kansas, and he was born in hawaii, which is in America. So that combination and circumstances makes him african american. Let’s just say he follows your example and calls himself Kenyan American. Isn’t Kenya in Africa? So therefore he would still be an African American. No matter how you try to put it. Obama is and will always be a true african american with a beautiful african american woman by his side.

The Media spoke about his white side of the family because they are the ones who RAISED him. Make some sense.

    And why are you wondering how they living? Obama just paid off HIS student loans a couple of years ago. He owns one house and one car. ALSO it was only myself and the Puerto Rican girl sitting next to me on the D Train that was talking about it. Everybody else acted as if they were scared.

    The girl had me laughing when she said the “Koo Koo Klux Klan” OMG she had me in tears on the train – I couldn’t believe how we were the only ones talking about the election.

  195. Sydney

    @MissBlaze

    I couldn’t really discuss politics at work during the entire election season, but from what I’m hearing/reading, there are many quiet workplaces today.

    I did go into a coffee shop this morning with my Obama buttons still pinned to my coat, and a man behind me — he was white — told me about some of the reactions he had seen to the election, such as a celebration in Ireland. We both had giddy smiles on our faces.

    He pointed out the impact of seeing a black man elected president. He added that perhaps one day, we wouldn’t even note a person’s race. I told him I think this election is a step in that direction. Don’t get me wrong — I think race will always be an issue on some level, but perhaps one day it won’t be a source of division — rather a characteristic of diversity that will be viewed universally in a positive manner.

  196. BeReal

    @Ms. Blaze & Tina – I thought it was weird too that white people did not look excited. I don’t know if they did not know what to say or what but they had to vote for him to for him to win..yeah today was exciting but weird

    @BE

    I think this is a lot to absorb at once for whites, blacks, and everyone else. I think people are still coming to grips with the enormity of it all and what it means for the future, including this nation’s fragile handling of race relations. Just my opinion.

  198. Rebekka

    I am from Namibia and my country like South Africa has suffered most inhumanly and extremely harsh apartheid policies from Whites for many many years.. first from the Germans and later from white afrikaners originated from the dutch.

    We have been independent now for 18 years and I am proud to say that my country has been a forefront runner in political and economic stabilty in Africa.

    Even though we have endured unimaginable hard conditions at the hands of the white people, we have forgiven and we have succeeded to pass through social issues like RACE.

    I have been reading the posts on this blog and I am shocked to realize most americans are still stuck up in the past. Even though i understand your histry from slavely, some of your comments are ignorant, narrow minded ill- educated and disturbing.

    I hope the victory for president Obama will bring change and unity amongst american people. I hope African americans will finally feel free, learn to forgive and move forward to a achieve Dr. Martin Luther’s dream.

    much love to you Rebekkah. the healing process is an everyday one. and this election has been a step in that direction. in the earliest stages of the primary, we read comments from corners of black America, including black leadership, stating that Obama was NOT a African American because his father was from Kenya and because his mother was white, so he clearly could not be considered among those who shared a different history.

    However, i think that our African American population has been quick to claim him as one of our own as his character was displayed during following months. It may not pretty, but at least the process is toward progress.

    @1morepleez

    The conottation fo being called an African American originates from an idea of a black person born in America. What people (black africans and americans) must realize is that all black people originates from Africa.

    I get a feeling that most people that are so-called african americans do not want to be associated with Africa. The questions is why?

    My friend who was studying in the US once said that, Most black americans are bitter because their African ancestors sold them of as slave… how true is this statement?

    Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,

    Sing a song full of the hope that t he present has brought us,

    Facing the rising sun of our new day begun

    Let us march on till victory is won.

    Stony the road we trod ,

    Bitter the chastening rod,

    Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

    Yet with a steady beat,

    Have not our weary feet

    Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?

    We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,

    @ whoever has an issue with Barack being referred to as African American

    Bottom line every black American is a mixture of African and European ancestry can we move on. Barack is a much a part of black America as his wife his daughters and myself. We don’t have to claim him because he claims us you can try to separate us all you want to it ain’t working.

  216. 1morepleez

    It actually isn’t a bitterness, it’s just that we are all educated under a Western standard. Our media depcits Africa as a place void of civilization and intelligence, and treats the continent as one homogenous country.

    You will often see African Americans on this website cite examples of what happens in South Africa as attributable to West Africa, East Africa to Central Africa, when there are actually several nations with completely differing peoples, cultures and rates of progress in each one. This feeds into the western notion that blackness is dismissable, so we can all be lumped into one category. It is interesting that there is no such thing as European American, but rather Irish American, Italian American, French, etc. But blacks must all be lumped together, and to deviate is to evaluate. If you are different from the standard of what African American has become in this country, then you are somehow inferior or threatening.

    Many African Americans display a true love for Africans, and from my own visits, I know that so many Africans on the continent absolutely adore African Americans, but both sides fall victims to the unfair and antiquated stereotypes. I have found that the better educated parties on both sides are better able to understand the plight of their counterparts and reach across the Atlantic. However, time will heal these wounds. A man both African and African American just became the most powerful man in the world. We’re already on our way.

    i would avoid resorting to the same ignorance that those native Africans you speak of are actually victims of themselves. the “why r u here” argument is self defeatist. if you learn anything in the usa, its that everyone is in this thing for the money. those native africans are certainly not here for you, they’re here for the money. and if you see how highly overrepresented they are in the ivy league, wall street, and midtown, they’re getting PLENTY of it.

    And you know what?? A few in my generation have made their cash and gone back already! Many have no intention of staying here, so if they are still here, they just haven’t made enough money yet.

    “U guys make sure you drink alot of water today, keep hydrated. There’s gonna b alot of salty crackers around!

    “All white people, please report to the nearest cotton field for orientation!”

    @ Nigerian

    you my friend are a fool, why is it your act like Kenya is not part of Africa, the only reason we refer to ourselves as African American is because we don’t know which country exactly each of us may have originated from. would you feel offended if someone referred to you as African instead of Nigerian, is it not true you are from the continent of African just like my ancestors. You attempt to make a difference where there is none, you are just plain ignorant. The only reason you are making a distinction between Kenyan and African is because you wish to associate Obama with a culture other than that of black Americans. Which is incorrect. And for your information if he were a drug dealer he would just be called black or african american, no one could look at him and know which country in africa his father was from, but they would know someone came from Africa, that is were all black people originated. Obama doesn’t practice Kenyan traditions but he does practice African American traditions like going to a baptist church, playing basketball and so on. So you can attempt to make me seem gullible but you make yourself appear a petty conflicted and foolish.

    Funny how you told DENEE about her ancestors being African too, but you think there is a difference in a Kenyan American and an African American you GTFOH

  235. Rebekka

    @ 1morepleez

    I understand your point of view on stereotype and the media. We have been campaigning for fair representation of modern Africa in the media for sometime now. The world needs to understand that Africa is a continent not a country. Africa has muchh cultural, political and economic diversity.

    What is happening in darfur sudan or the congo is not what is happening in Namibia or South Africa. The languages and attitude is so diverse and that is what needs to be understood.

    Just like what we watch African American movies, we do not necessary believe every African american is somebody’s baby mama/daddy.

    Anyhow, like you said the process is towards progress, Change we believe in.

  236. Afiya - GO PHILLIES!! One more to go and it's a PAR-TAY in Philly!

  242. janae'

    This is a very proud day for black people in America and africa. I wish my mother was still here to see this day.

  243. Tyty

    @ Nigerian dude, WOW FOR A NIGERIAN YOUR IGNORANCE IS DISTURBING. HE IS AFRICAN-AMERICAN. His father is African, Keynan is a nationality like Nigerian is a nationality, American is a nationality, Cuban is a nationality. People can be of different races and the same nationality. You have Americans that are Asians, Blacks and Whites and although THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME NATIONALITY, THEIR RACE IS DIFFERENT. Obama is African-American because Kenyans are Africans like Nigerians. But he is also American because his mother was American and he was born in America. So by way of his parents Kenya(a country located on the continent of Africa) and America he is African-American(his nationality) and Black is his race, like Nigerians are Black but Nigerian is your Nationality( For your information their are whites that call themselves Nigerian). Nigerian is your nationality but Black is your race.

    Black people in this country are African-American like Obama because their ancestry come from Africa(a lot of whom come from Nigeria and other parts of West Africa) so in essence they are Africans born in America, just like Obama is an African-American born in America.

    @ Coon. First of all Coon, Obama is BLACK because Obama describes himself as BLACK NOT MIXED. BLACK PEOPLE ACCEPT OBAMA AS BLACK, HIS QUEEN IS BLACK(He married a Black woman….Yeahhhhhhhh) AND HIS CHILDREN ARE BLACK. SO HE IS BLACK…PERIOD. I as a BLACK PERSON ACCEPT HIM AS BLACK AND EVEN BETTER HE CHOSE A BLACK WOMAN LIKE ME TO MARRY(any man that can honor a BLACK WOMAN can’t do no wrong in my eyes, I don’t care what he looks like or what he is mixed with, just for that move, in my opinion he is Blacker than most. Their are so called black men whose mothers are black and they can’t seem to honor a black woman). So not matter anyone says, I love Obama, I support him and most of all I respect him; and if you were really concerned about the issues and what he has to offer it shouldn’t matter what he looks like.

  244. blaq

    @ Nigerian

    you just got read, and so now I’m a bitch that is why you will die in your ignorance, since you couldn’t come up with a valid argument you resorted to name calling yes basketball is african american culture we play it like people in africa and south america play soccer. He doesn’t have to admit his father being from Kenya it was never hidden, he’s proud of his heritage as I am of mine. But you saying he’s Kenyan American is like me saying I’m not American I’m Californian. You sound so stupid and you know it, and exactly he grew up here and that what makes him one of us. I am happy he didn’t grow up in your community, I take that back you are surely the dumbest, most juvenile, ignorant Nigerian I have ever conversed with. You are a disgrace to your country and our race. He is not addicted to american culture he is american culture. That’s why he gives his wife a pound and dust the dirt off his shoulders like Jay Z. Get some more education and if you are going to try and curse like an African American take some time out and listen to a Richard Pryor album you sound ridiculous.

  245. Tiffany

    ALRIGHT I’M OUT FOR THE DAY! CONGRATS TO AMERICA AND MIGHT I SAY THANK YOU TO ALL THE FIRST TIME VOTERS AND REPEAT VOTERS FOR THAT MATTER! YOUR VOTE COUNTED!

  246. nigerian dude

    buhahahahahhaha, OH MY GOD, u are sooo retarded, my dad is nigerian and my mom is american, i am nigerian american period, other race do that even asians that were born in the state but have chinese hertitage are referred to as asian american. u are african american period, so chill out and it is not that serious!! and besides the white still look at us as n*ggers cause we all black period!!

  247. nigerian dude

    @tyty

    if i said i was african american to people it will seem wired cause my ancestors were not slaves like urs!! well anyways i am nigerian american and even other races refer to me as nigerian american!!

  251. Necy(aka) Obama girl

    Yes, we did it, we did it hooooooooooray!!!!! Lo hicimos, we did it………LOL

  252. blaq

    @ Nigerian

    so you are not african? you idiot, your mother didn’t teach you shit obviously. I happens, luckily Obama’s mama was intelligent enough to teach him correctly. What is the difference between a Vietnamese, Japanese, and Chinese American and an Asian American? their nation not their race. African is considered a race not just a continent you silly African American this is the exact reason you have tribes in africa commit genocide on their own people because this type of division amongst our people. Tell me what is the difference between of Rwanda’s Tutsis and Hutu? I can’t tell the difference to look at them, but the white man caused division over some small shit like this which resulted in millions of dead Africans.

    Don’t forget you brought this up, but division of Africans and African Americans is very serious to me, I don’t like it, don’t condone it and will speak up against it weather you are an African from Nigeria or an African from Chicago.

  253. blaq

    @ nigerian

    My former slave ancestors have done more for the world and your country included than your so called free ancestors. Don’t hate congratulate. Nigeria only obtained independence in 1960 following the trend of Blacks in America. And to infer you are somehow better because Nigerians weren’t slaves? They were second class citizens in their own country and like the rest of Africa their liberation was preceded by our fight for global civil rights. I love Africa and Africans but please don’t try to look down on us. We did it first, best, and under the most horrendous conditions. But I’m gonna let this go, you’re pissing me off with your stupidity and this day is too joyous.

  254. nigerian dude

    @blaq

    u are a stupid b*tch for mentioning my mom in this situation!! leave my mom outta this u f*cking cunt. anyways my folks brought me up well to embrace both culture of nigeria and american and that is wht i am nigerian american. i travel to nigeria every yr just to get use to my beautiful culture. once again keep my mom outta ur disease mouth!!!

    ————————————————-

    @ Green Grass – That is very true. I personally had gotten to where I really didn’t feel as those the aura of the flag meant anything to me. I now somehow feel a part of the process. Also, why a lot of us didn’t vote in the past; we did not believe that we made a significant difference.

    @ pynk

    just putting some ignorant person in their place, I makes me sick how SOME (and from my experience they are in the minority) people from Africa want to disrespect and try to make African American seem inferior due to our past as being slaves. This Nigerian punk wanted to call African Americans ignorant for referring to Obama as an African American, trying to make it as though there was some difference in him and the rest of Black America because his father is from Kenya but since he couldn’t come with a reasonable or intelligent response he resorted to name calling and trying throwing around stereotypes about African Americans, like I live in the ghetto, have never been to Africa and hang out with people who go by two name. He’s pathetic and stupid and I’m truly sorry for letting someone so ignorant tick me off. Obama and the rest of the African American have work to do, I shouldn’t even waste my time.

  270. Guess what

    @blaq

    I’ve been told from a Kenyan co-worker that some Nigerians believe they are better than them for some reason. This is the main reason why black people struggle to progress because we cannot support one another and there is always competition and hostility within the community.

  271. obama

Know we must as a overall set a example be more constructive in this world be about it. Don’t talk about.

  278. Tyty

    @ Nigerian dude. The worst part of your slavery is that you don’t realize that you are a slave. Nearly all of Africa with the exception of a few countries were COLONIALIZED BY THE WHITE MAN and you are still COLONIALIZED, were that not the case you wouldn’t have to come to America to find what should be in Nigeria.

    For your information, my father is Nigerian and my mother is a African-American born in the U.S. So I’m in a good position to speak from both sides. Nigeria like many parts of Africa is rich in resources but you lack the mental capacity with your enslaved, colonialized mentality to restructure the resources that you have been given. As a result, you remain enslaved. Before you were enslaved by the white man, that’s why Africans born in America are in America to begin with, now you are being enslaved by the Chinese that are going to Africa including Nigeria to do what your government should be doing. Before you deceive yourself and pretend that you are better than the African-Americans remember from whence you have come. Stop going to London and stop coming to the U.S. INSTEAD REPAIR AFRICA INCLUDING NIGERIA So that us ACATAS will have something to be proud of. Remember its because of African-Americans(Acatas)born in the U.S. that Blacks from else where are allowed to come to this country. African-Americans(Acatas) paved the way for you to be here so that you could have freedom to talk.

  279. nigerian dude

    @tyty

    african american never paved the way for me, maybe for u and ur dad but not for me!! u even call them acatas, do u know by calling them that u are insulting them!! @tyty

    u are a disgrace to nigerians,i have NEVER heard anyone talk like u even the ones who have been here all their lives!! thank GOD i do not know u at all. why don’t u go back to nigeria and fix the problems there too!! u have been americanized too much around the black community. i pity u and ur papa!! LOL. and no we ain’t slaves, we never had chains and sh*t around our necks and beaten by white people, even my ancestors never had that experience. so what if we were colonized by the british,is that slavery to teach africans how to be developed??? men go sleep or something u have been brainwashed.

  289. sweet and sour

    hello gaywalker

  290. Tyty

    @Nigerian dude. YOU ARE THE DISGRACE. YOU, NIGERIANS AND OTHER AFRICANS ARE STILL BEING ENSLAVED. THE WORST PART OF YOUR SLAVERY IS THAT YOU CAN’T ADMIT IT! That’s why with all the resources that Nigeria has you still have nothing.

    Since you insist upon commenting about enslavement, African-Americans are still in a better position than you that must come from Africa to the U.S. and to England. Afterall, we don’t have to leave our homeland to find a better life unlike you. If you were better in reality you will be in Nigeria and not in the U.S. Your country should be able to accomodate the needs of its people. Part of your problem is that YOU ARE JEALOUS. You are jealous of the position of African-Americans. If African-Americans are lost descendents of slaves than what are you. At least in our confusion we are not abandoning our country for a better life because our country refused to take care of its citizens.

    And for your information African-Americans DID PAVE THE WAY FOR OTHER AFRICANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD INCLUDING YOU. The only reason you can get citizenship in this country(if you have citizenship at all) with all your BLACKNESS is because whites, YOUR MASTER, have become accustom to the BLACKNESS of African-Americans brought in chains before you. Physical chains are nothing compared to mental chains because physical chains can be taken off, mental chains remain.

    For your information, if Africa is ever to succeed it will be AFRICANS BORN IN AMERICA THAT WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN NOT PEOPLE THAT REFUSED TO SEE THEIR ENSLAVEMENT LIKE YOU. When you refuse to see that you are enslave you have no desire to seek freedom. I unlike you was born in America and have lived here all of my life. I didn’t run from a country that refused to take care of its people so its people must leave to be taken care of by others. NOW WHO IS THE SLAVE!

  294. Rock Witchu

    reading some of these comments, i see that some black people are still jealous haters when one of our own succeeds. some things never change. SMH.

  295. rob

    What happened to just being black? Fire pon the person who came up with the term. It excludes all the black people whose family is not from America. Let’s go back to being black!

  296. I think there’s heartbreak around the corner for many of the black people so euphoric right now over president-elect Obama. They’re like those Kenyans who expect Obama to do something for them. To do, in fact, what they haven’t been able to do for themselves after 100,000 years in Africa: raise them to the level of high civilization.

    He can’t. Moreover he won’t, and neither should he. He can’t lead anyone who lacks their own sense of direction.

    It’s immaterial whether he’s Kenyan American or black American. We’re rushing to claim him without understanding what he really is: the Negro 2.0. He’s something we haven’t seen before: the replacement for an inoperative model of blackness. A fully realized black person without the need to peek out (or bellyache from) behind a victim myth. He’s a visionary besides, and his vision is universal. He probably considers the problems of blackness (that is, the complaints, not the inborn deficits)supplemental to the larger problem of general cultural evolution.

    Mr. Obama’s vision seems to be to lift the bottom by floating the whole. That is, he’s going to economize his efforts to move civilization forward by focusing on the elements that are already proven to be evolutionary and dynamic: young, mostly white people of the educated great American middle-left.

    The heartbreak of black Americans is that they’re going to feel overlooked. They’re not going to feel central to an Obama presidency because they can’t be. They shouldn’t be. The rubric of change in Obama’s candidacy means evolution; not just improvement but differentiation and transformation into a new organism. Obama himself is precisely that kind of evolved organism, broken off from the undifferentiated mass of blacks into something supremely adapted to create new conditions and exploit them.

    The tragedy for the black American mass is that we’re not of his breed; we aren’t yet at that evolutionary threshold. The proof is that many are looking for Obama to “do” something for them, to wave a wand of relief (and retribution?) over the African American condition and carry us to the winner’s circle.

    Obama is not a savior. He’s a conduit to the people who don’t need saving. They are bright and energetic and broad-thinking. They only need coordination of their countless individual enterprises. If you are poor, black, benighted and obstinately proud of being so, and you think Obama is talking to you and not those smart, polite, clear-eyed white kids behind you with their earbuds and laptops and backpacks, then you don’t understand Obama at all.

    When he says change is coming, you ought to consider that it’s not all going to be good for you. He’s already pulled the victimhood rug from under our feet. His further successes are going to strip us bare, bit by bit. Our reputation won’t survive the comparison. Right now, it may seem we’ll be able to steal a bit of luster from his success. But unless we become a different kind of people, it’s going to strip us of our excuses — of the very idea of blackness as an untouchable excuse . In the end, we’ll have to look at ourselves to explain our failures. That bodes to be bitter.

    Those Africans shouldn’t be looking at the opportunities in America. They should be looking for the opportunities they’ve squandered in Africa.

Do they have welfare where you come from? or Kool-Aid or Clean water? and by the way From Whom did Nigeria get their Independence from? Would you have to get independence if you were already Free!

    hey scuby dubious

    I agree with what u say except the part about africans squandering opportunity.I know its not a time to make excuses but I will also not put the current situation that black Americans find themselves in as entirely their fault.they killed our true leaders read:patrice lumumba tom mboya etc ,someone mentioned Neo-Slavery/colonialism Africans have been subject to economic terrorism,rebels in Nigeria and congo have been fighting against this for years what u actually read in the media as rebels sometimes represents a struggle to control ones resources.Africans have not had their own resources in their hands ever i am not making excuses but please dont blame the african dat theres bullshit mein

  300. Tyty

    Its your mentality of exclusion that keeps Black people back. Black people that think like you that believe that they are superior to others Blacks when in reality in the eyes of all others we are seen as all the same. You walk down the street nobody will call you a Nigerian they will you something else first and Nigerian second. Its not until you open your mouth that people will see you any different then the Blacks around you. People with your mentality refuse to see that Black people all over the world are the same. Although we are all cut into different patterns we are cut from the same cloth and the sooner you and others like you realize that the better off you will be.

Why would they be talking about a bunch of his distant family members in Kenya that he barely knows? How would that have been relevant? The Media spoke about his white side of the family because they are the ones who RAISED him. Make some sense.

    And why are you wondering how they living? Obama just paid off HIS student loans a couple of years ago. He owns one house and one car. Are you implying that he should be finacially taking care a bunch of distant family members in africa that he barely knows?? Are you stupid? I’m sure black people solely voted for Obama based on his policy positions (Yeah, right). If white people voted that strongly for McCain, I am sure that “movement” would be called something else. I am sure white people who propped up the black vote did so, not to be “part of history” and to exorcise the inheritance of a post-colonial guilt complex. You cannot honestly believe that if it were a white man with Obama’s complete lack of accomplishment (and was a member of a racist church and had the associations he had), he would have made it through the primaries. To be FAIR, a three-legged dog could have defeated the Republicans this year. You only had to look at the news anchors and pundits blubbering in their tears to know that America became a far sadder place. A place where AN INDIVIDUAL (not a black man) cannot be judged based on his merits for the position, but only chosen for his genetic ancestry. You people do not see him as a man, who began backpedalling (aka “lying”) in his victory speech about how he’ll need two terms to accomplish what he promised during his campaign would be done with the first 100 days of his presidency. But you’ll give him a pass. John McCain was a poor candidate as well, but at least he sacrificed himself for his country and knew the true meaning of “honor”, something Obama could never hope to understand. Again, you all voted against Bush as a symbol, and rightfully so. But most people did not register a protest vote against McCain the individual as much as they registered a vote symbolically against the Republican party and Bush. People could not see McCain for the INDIVIDUAL he was, and his record of working across party lines. They were too caught up in the symbolism of Obama. Obama himself even said “t I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripe project their own views”. Become a symbol and you become EVERYTHING to Americans. Well when it comes to the next four years- prepare to be at best, disappointed, and at worst, have your lives fall further into ruin.

    @blaq; KENYA IS A COUNTRY DEEP WITHIN THE AFRICAN CONTINENT, SO YES, HE IS MORE DIRECTLY LINKED AND AFRICAN THAT A MAJORITY OF US.

    I am African-American and i have rehses negative blood group which i’ve discovered is prodominently a white european blood group, so even though i appear 100% black the blood that runs through my viens is european blood. President Obama’s First Step: Reset Expectations

    Henry Blodget | Nov 5, 08 5:59 AM

    If President Elect Obama were the incoming CEO of a corporation, he would now be preparing for the first act of his tenure: A massive write-off of the mountains of rotted junk buried on the company’s balance sheet and an announcement that recovery will take a long, long time.

    This flush would clear the way for several years of better than expected results. It would also take advantage of the new leader’s one chance to blame the sorry state of the organization on his sorry predecessor.

    President Obama began this process last night, in his victory speech, when he noted that restoring the country’s health might take more than a term. In the next few weeks, he should go well beyond this:

    The deficit will be more than $1 trillion a year for several years

    The country needs a massive new fiscal stimulus

    The housing market will continue to decline through at least 2010

    Interest rates and taxes will eventually have to rise (after the economy stabilizes)

    Weak corporations have to be allowed to fail

    Millions of homeowners will lose their house

    Unemployment will probably rise to 10%

    The government simply cannot “bail the country out”–not because it lacks the will, but because it lacks the power.

    In short, Obama needs to acknowedge reality, erring on the side of overstating the problems and challenges, and he needs to prepare the country for several tough years. Because if he doesn’t, within six months of his taking office, the country will have forgotten all about the prior administration and will instead be blaming everything on him.

    OMG, I cannot believe why im reading here!

    There is a lot of mistakes that were said before! Obama is being kenyan and african american! This is perfect because he might reconcile us african and you african american!

    I don’t agree with you Nigerian dude. Colonization is not about teatching black people progress, its about the idea that the white supremacy is better and that we are some ignorant people hat needed to be civilized! I cant believe you think its better!Most countries in Africa especially the french colonies which i belong o (Congo) are not independntr! They still control us by putting people in the head of our states that dod not care for us! PLus,all our leader, lumumba, thomas sankara gthat wanted better for us were killed! Plus, I really think you don’t now history! matybew the colonization was not as dramatic as slavery was here but we were denied our rights too, and treated as second class cictizen in our OWN countries!!As an african, ive always been fascinated by AA for all they,ve been trough and for all thr progress they ,ve made! I live in france ad you will never see a black man president here! hell, even in england, do you think you’ll see one day a black queen??? you know very well, that would never happen! we african should not look down at african american just because we did not have chains at our neck! we are slave and i still cant believe some people think colonozation was good! its just asd ignorant as what soulja boy said about thanking white people for bringing slaves in america!

    im happy america did it! the rest of the world is proud and i know it will be a wonderful inspiration for all of us, africans, africam americans, africans europeans, hell, ALL BLACK PEOPLE!

  316. Vinandi

    I am African and as Africans we are rejoicing because what has happened in the States 45 years after the end of colonialism , is that a inpspirational man of African orgin, has shown us and the rest of the world, that with hard work and determination and luck anything in this world is possible. We may not benefit directly from this elecltion however the perception of Black people and ehtnic minorites by the world at large can only improve from this historic event! this is bigger than all of us and should not be sullied by racial predjudice, come on Americans, you should be celebrating and so proud as the rest of us are of your wise decision!

    I’m French and I’m telling you, with the election of Obama as president, the USA has regained respect and admiration from all around the world. Since I’m 10, Bush has been president, and everyone would say bad things about America, we just couldn’t understand why he had been elected. But now, Barack is your president and ours is Sarkozy, our turn to be ashamed… We’re all in love with America again, and I hope that France will follow the same path. You should have seen the athmosphere here, we all stayed up all night and partied like if it was our president, and I cried my eyes out (actually I can’t stop crying everytime I think of what’s just happened) I have a thought for Malcolm X, Martin Luther King or Muhammad Ali and all the men and women who fought hard for this day to come. You just wrote History!

  320. Miss Coupe Decale

    Nigerians think they are better then everybody..especially better then other black people…especially better then other Africans…My own soon to be husband only has one main fault and that is that he always tries to bring me down for being half kenyan half white. I always have to defend Kenya when I know Kenya is as great as Nigeria if not better. Kenya is one of the most visited countries in Africa by foreigners that enjoy the very friendly atmosphere and the beautiful and rich wildlife. Both the Swedish royal family and the British have propery there and go for holidays frequently. In my hometown Mombasa I was there at the same time when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt went on a romantic holiday. Of all the countries in Africa Kenya is one of the best to visit and enjoy. I know Nigeria has oil but it does not have the crystal clear beaches and rich wildlife like Kenya. Kenya also has one of the world’s biggerst tea production. Kenya is also 100 times safer then Nigeria. I just really hate the way Nigerians are so proud and don’t want to acknowledge the rest of Africa, I am not saying all Nigerians are like this.. but many are. All in all Nigerians are not liked by most other Africans.. I wonder why?

  321. Miss Coupe Decale

    I know things like celebrities liking a country doesn’t make it a GREAT country.. But these are the only arguments that works on Nigerians on why Kenya should be respected. In their eyes it seems like they think Nigeria is the only African country that even has roads, nice buildings or money!

    Miss Coupe Decale, Okay I am Nigerian and offended by the stereotypes you noted about Nigerians. Africa doesn’t work as a continent because we all have a laundry list of why our country is better instead of addressing why for the continent with the most natural resources it suffers from the world’s largest ills. Stop living the crab in the barrel mentality. I urge you to read my first post. Nigerians like most Africans experience and often display national pride which people interpret as being arrogrant or superior. But what most African will not acknowledge is that African of all countries often keep themselves at a disadvantage because they engage in acts of zenophobia.

    We are not going to become a better continent until we get over the infantile my country is better then yours. A

    fricans, in America, Europe and on the continent must stop engaging in self hatred attacks about heritage and culture and move on as one nation, we are black , that is our commonality now what, where do we go from here.

    @blaq

    As much as I don’t agree with that Nigreian fool. I would like to point out a few things to you.

    You are right. African Americans identify themselves with this term because they have ancestorial backgounds from Africa and America etc. It is a perfect term to use.

    You are wrong. Africa is a continent with diverse cultures and most importantly RACES so simply calling one African does not clearly describe one just as it would be the case in using the term “AMERICAN”….indian, black, hispanic, what in specific? A person from the CONTINENT of Africa would like to be described by his/her country, race etc…..

    You started out reasoning so well but at one point ended up sounding like Nigerian Fool slightly.

    There is no “your former ancestors” versus “our ancestors” All africans have the same group of ancestors, you feel me. Down the line things changed but we are from one.

    No,theres is no greater or lesser sufferation between slaves in America and Africans under colonial rule in Africa. Every soul endured pain in degrees that is illogical to try to measure.

    Suffering in Rwanda is not just for people in Rwanda. It’s for all Africans. All with African heritage….even you. Don’t distance yourself from it or redicule other Africans for it. It is just as much a part of you if you are African American, Black cuban….whatever.

    Everybody else in here need to stop all this 1% drop rule and ish foolery. If you’re comfortable calling yourself this and that, Do you. Let others do them and define themselves the way they choose. Who are you to tell others what they should identify themselves with in THEIR lives?

    Point is…..even with this New world order Obama brings, us black folks still have a long way to go if we can’t even get along or unite.

    Do not get too much into a fight with an idiot like Mr. Nigerian….

    I feel your frustraion dealing with this fool. Just stay focused.

    On a broader worldwide perspective, MARCUS GARVEY said it best:-

    THE WHITE MEN IS SUPERIOR TO THE BLACK MEN BECAUSE THE WHITE MEN IS ORGANISED & UNITED. AS LONG AS WE BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT ORGANISED AND UNITED. WE WILL STAY INFERIOR TO THE WHITE MAN.

    Have you read any of Obama’s books? I also supplied you with Obama’s personal comments on his racial identity.

    I agree with Blaq’s statement: “The only reason you are making a distinction between Kenyan and African is because you wish to associate Obama with a culture other than that of black Americans.”

    Blaq, your comments were thoughtful and insightful. Thank you.

SO THE MAIN FOCUS WAS TO USE THE SIDE OF HIM THAT WAS MOST MARKETABLE, FOR ALL OF THE OTHER VOTES. DO YOU TRULY BELIEVE THAT AFTER SEEING SCENES LIKE THAT ONE CONSISTANTLY AND DOING DOCUMENTARIES ON HIS KENYAN FAMILY WOULDVE WON THE VOTES OF ASIAN HISPANICS AND WHITES?

    Let me see if I can simplify this for you because I know you’re intellectually challenged. You have time to concoct all these various aliases to stir up trouble. I, on the other hand, have one SN.

    However, you can always check to see if a person — such as yourself today — is changing identities by simply checking their IP address. ******** just gave you easy instructions on how to do this.

    So, to put it all into perspective, you’re a mentally unstable dude with an identity crisis named Jason who claims to be college-educated but can’t spell nor write a coherent sentence.

    And it’s “MAN, I’m out.” Geez. . .

  371. blaq

    @ Cali

    I agree, my references to Rwanda was not to insult African people, it was to point out how bad things can become, and how many people die and suffer from our fighting over our differences instead of celebrating the fact we are one people. In regards to race, we have been picked apart so much. But African is currently the best way to describe our people. I know there are white Africans. I would never separate myself from African people, I only promote unity. I don’t care if you are in America, Africa, South America, Europe when my brothers and sisters cry, I cry. Black people in America began calling themselves African Americans to denounce the separation as to say we are all Africans, that was really my point. Thank you for your intelligent words and encouragement.

  372. dre

    @sydney aka marquis

    and the b*tch never answered my question!! LOL

    AAAAAAAlllllll is from Africa ! Obama is helping the lost/enslaved Africans in America from the past connect with the African tribes…………..leave it alone and embrace the new us , sooooooshut the fuk up!!!!!!

  376. adiamondcenter

    Kiss the pic….Kiss the black lady from Kenya ….and then kiss her ass if you got dumb shit 2 say …………….Obama won leave it alone………Damn be at ease people!!!!!!

  377. adiamondcenter

    @ nigerian dude ..Please believe that some Nigerians were captured and made slaves as well and their blood line is here in america Son!! And please know Obamas kids have slaveblood in them from the mothers side she is not from Kenya ok…So be educated before you think and type….All Africans rather it be American African or tribal Africans all truely need to unite and connect …..All of those that think different is worst than a slaveholder themselves and doesn’t believe in God>>>>>>..

  378. PROUD AFRICAN AMERICAN @ the Savage Africans

    OBAMA reefers to himself as as AFRICAN AMERICAN because if he was indeed raised in Africa he would be starving, dirt poor and hungry!!! America is HOME to the most progressive, EDUCATED, wealthy group of Africans in the WORLD. AFRICAN AMERICANS. Nobody gives a flying Frisbee about you third world native, genital mutilating, illiterate, gorilla eating idiots! OBAMA was elected PRESIDENT ONLY BECAUSE AFRICAN AMERICANS PAVED THE ROAD FOR HIM TO GET TO THE WHITEHOUSE. We are happy that we aren’t living in dirtpoor AFRICA, we are HAPPY and PROUD that our ancestors were SLAVES, those slaves GAVE BIRTH TO SOME OF THE BRIGHTEST and most TALENTED LEADERS this world has ever seen, including MALCOLM X and MARTIN LUTHER KING. We has accomplished more than you Africans have accomplished in A MILLION YEARS. Instead of hating on OUR progression and PRESIDENT focus on why you’re countries government’s are CORRUPT and in shambles, why your men are raping babies thinking that will cure them of AIDS, why you idiots are STILL DIRT POOR, ETC. ETC. ETC.

  379. PROUD AFRICAN AMERICAN @ the Savage Africans

    Anddddddddddd, OBAMA’S WIFE is a proud, AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN.

    She is a accomplished,sophisticated lawyer not some illiterate Nigerian refugee!

    The only reason that you African refugees can set foot on American soil is because AFRICAN AMERICANS lobbied for the IMMIGRATION ACT OF 1964. Without that and the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT you Africans would be still in Africa suffering alongside the rest of the people in your villages and huts back in Africa so you NEED TO BE THANKFUL and GRATEFUL that my people wanted to help you imbeciles!

  380. adiamondcenter

    @Nigeriand dumb dude p.s.s.s Obama has white blood in him and shouts that out alot …he is black …..His Father liked the white vagina just like slavemasters loved the black vagina……And Africa is one of the original tribes that started the earing style son !!!!And you sound like a true nigga I mean ignorant as hell but I forgive you and blesses 2 u…if your truly a blackman but you also sound like a bitter white man and if you are I will pray for you……

  381. adiamondcenter

    @ nigerian dude….You sound like a bitter white man …or an ignorant black man …if your black, I forgive you and send blessings with you and if your a white bitter man I will pray for you…And please know that Africa was one othe original places that started the earing style….son !!please read please read!!!!!!!

  382. PROUD AFRICAN AMERICAN

    Lastly OBAMA was raised by his white MOTHER and HIS white grandparents! His AMBITION came from his COUNTRY and HIS MOTHER’S SIDE OF HT FAMILY. HE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW HIS FATHER. If Obama was raised in Kenya he’d BE NOWHERE near the whitehouse!! Stop trying to claim something you HAD nothing to do with! Dang, what you Africans need to do is follow OUR lead and stop waiting around for OUR American tax dollars and OPRAH to donate funds to you! It is your FAULT that Africa is in BAD SHAPE. YOU are the ones that let the white man RAPE your continent! Your ancestors thought they were getting rich by selling people when all they did was sell their soul for forks, spoons, and flip-flops from EUROPE.

  383. Stacy

    @Kenya

    Wow, you sound just as bad as a racist white guy talking about African Americans. You are generalizing all Americans as the same now how would you like it if we did the same. We could say all Africans live in huts, women walk around with there breast exposed, and it’s Aids ridden. You go on to talk about us having tattoo, as if something is wrong with that, but what about some africans branding themselves. Is branding somehow more refined then tattoing? Then you go on to say we are insecure slaves but correct me if I’m wrong but bleacing creams is a hot commidity in Africa, but yet we are the ones who are insecure. Why would we be insecure we are the most visible in every parts of the world and many try to emulate our culture from our music to our fashion.

    People I love my people rather they are from Africa, America, Carribean Islands or Latin America. We all have the same bloodline and we already have every other race looking down on us as a whole why do we continue to tear each other down. It saddens me that we have discrimination within our own race.

  384. adiamondcenter

    …@proud African…Some of that is true but my brotha your ancestors blood still connects rather you like it or not some slaves were Nigerian …I would have been the slave that jumped in the ocean with my kids beacuse I will not be a slave to no one …..but agian please know that some nigerians were captured as well and made slaves in America ….just know that…..and bless you!!!!!And Obamas dad is from Kenya and he banged a white woman if he was so true to his tribe he would not have touched a white woman, rather Obama knew his dad or not his blood runs inside of Obama and he is going to the white house with his African American kids and wife….deal with it

  385. adiamondcenter

    Read people Read !!! Use common sense before you type unless your on some what ever shit……..

  386. adiamondcenter

    …@Stacy finally a real one……….

  387. adiamondcenter

    ..@ kenya..@proud African ….. needs to be educated ….

  388. adiamondcenter

    @ proud African ….AAAAAAANNNDDDDD Obamas wife still has slaveblood ih here proud or not….great woman indeed but she still has slaveblood line….and obamas dad like whie ass so he wasn’t to true to his tribe although we are loving Obama 4 life……sorry man your lost……

  389. adiamondcenter

    Obama s dad liked white ass so how true to Kenya was he.and we still love him and his son in America

  390. Stacy

    @ adiamondcenter

    Like the old saying goes, “United we stand, Divided we fall”. And this couldn’t be any truer. As long as we stay divided we will never proper as a whole. I sick of seing Africans who think they are better then African Americans, Carribean blacks who clearly have African features deny that they are black but rather say they are Spanish, and it’s really getting old with the whole lightskin African Americans against the darkerskin ones. It’s stupidity at it’s best.

  391. sam

    @proud african american

    u are so stupid, u are also an african monkey, ur ancestors were brought to america with chains around their neck u kunta kinte amistad n*gga!! anyways obama was born to an african man, so he is mixed with both african and american. u never paved a way for any africans, u african americnas are even still in america still broke and poor and live on food stamps and welfare checks!!!! u are so pathetic u slave monkEy, go get a banana and go back to africa ASAP!!!

  392. Stacy

    @ Sam

    You need to do some more research because African Americans are the wealthiest and have the most spending power then any other blacks in any country. So, your theory of us all being on welfare and poor is statistically false. And just so you uneducated people know the bulk of welfare does not go to jobless blacks but rather to large corporations. Get your facts straight before you spew out your dumb hate.

  393. sam

    @stacey

    what?? LOL look at what happened in new orleans 95% of them were black and poor. the only rich african americans are either rap artist or nba players..

  394. sam

    @stacey

    and also the crime rate in america are mostly african american men, drug dealers rapidly increased at the black community, truck drivers are mostly african american men, or latinos aka ups shl and comcast drivers.80% of african american are either in jail or dead…. may i go on….

  395. sam

    @stacey

    even the women are broke and u live off child support from a ray ray and jon jon!!!

  396. Stacy

    @ Sam

    You’re an idiot you taking one area to determine the wealth of all African Americans. How stupid is that. That’s like me taking the poorest country in Africa and saying that you all are poor and don’t have clean drinking water. But as an educated person I know better then to say that. Yes, that part of New Orleans is poor but we also have rich and upper class black neighborhoods. Please look up Ladera Heights in California if you need proof. And just because your narrow mind think 80% of African Americans are either in jail or dead means nothing anyone can throw out a %, 80% of africans have Aids, see how easy it is to just make up a number. Until you show me proof of this then I will believe it. And last even if 80% of African Americans are in jail or dead still don’t take from the fact that we are the wealthiest blacks in any country. If you think I’m lying I will be glad to forward you the info on this.

  397. sam

    @stacey

    u black aint the wealthest… the ,ost riches black man in the world is nigeiran named dangote,, google that he is even on forbes!!! now the only african american on forbes in jay-z who is like way behind the african billionare and plus he is a rapper. and pls i have been everywere in the state and all african americans are close to the same.all poor and doing drugs.

  398. PROUD AFRICAN AMERICAN

    YES WE ARE NUMBSKULL! What don’t you understand about the word collectively??????? Collectively means ALL AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE UNITED STATES COMBINED and in that category WE are the richest group of AFRICANS ON EARTH. OPRAH and other AA are on the FORBES list. Collectively we are richer than that ONE African and the rest of you:

    In 2004, African-American workers had the second-highest median earnings of American minority groups after Asian Americans, and African Americans had the highest level of male-female income parity of all ethnic groups in the United States.

    Also, among American minority groups, only Asian Americans were more likely to hold white-collar occupations (management, professional, and related fields)

  399. sam

    @proud african american

    check forbes this african dude from nigeria is richer than oprah!!! ynways why do i see alot of african american on tv wither shot arrested or dead!! u guys are way broke and leaving off government cheese and welfare check!! GTFOH , u think i am stupid… eat a dick with ur lies.

  400. sam

    i am a banker and the only african american men i see are the ones delivering ups package to my office!!! and the african american women are always receptionist.

  401. sam

    @stacey

    u talking about AIDS??? 80% of african american women either have AIDS or some kind of diseases. so GTFOH and go get educated.

  409. Kenya gurl

    oh gosh…this is so funny! In Kenya, we KNOW AND APPRECIATE for a fact, that Barack, is AMERICAN! We recognize that he is indeed AFRICAN-American, and not KENYAN-american…We celebrate him because his father was Kenyan, but Barack was born and grew up in AMERICA..

    Kenyan, is a nationality, but AFRICAN is more of an identity!

    Please, do not say ignorant things about Africa, yes theres biting poverty, AIDS etc.,but thats not all what we are about! Its good to educate yourself..Some of us live way much better than WHITE and BLACK Americans!

    Baracks Kenyan side of his family, do not live like queens,they are simple and humble people, who do not want special treatment or favors as they appreciate HE is American, thats his priority, not Kenya.

    So dont dont rant on and on about his race,..

    AFRICA sees Barack as AFRICAN-AMERICAN-PERIOD!

  410. adiamondcenter

    @londonborn and stacy…..Londonbornthank you 4 clearing that up ..I know most of my people in Africa do not hate African Americans we most were capture and didn’t ask to be here ….all didn’t sell their souls for money to be tricked into slavery…..Stacey you are a fighter and the wiser please dont stop teaching….

  412. adiamondcenter

    …..@Sam just know before you talk that their are more whites in the welfare line then blacks and the whites run neck to neck with the blacks and mexicans in the prison population…Just try not to lick the pussy of that white chick that can’t stay off of the black dick…… Good luck because sooo many of them will fuk a black man for free and suck his penis and give him her white daddy’s money ….I’m ok with that because most of them fuck the ones I don’t want……

  429. rob

    My goodness everyone who is black in the US is not “African American.” It’s an exclusionary term, let’s all go back to black. That term began by a black American who was only thinking about black Americans, not about the millions of black people here in the US who are not “African-Amrican”

  430. Melissa

    Why as a site that is geared towards black people are you the most disive that I have ever seen. We as a people have a chance to fix things…He is BLACK but raised by white people. That does not make him any less of a black/white man but make him a universal man. PLEASE…do not start on the black or white..that will tear our country apart. WE HAVE A CHANCE TO FIX THINGS….lets let them get fixed….we have no other way.

    NO REAL TALK THE ONLY CONNECTION OBAMA HAVE WITH AMERICA,IS THE WHITE MOTHER,THE ONLY BLACK HE HAS WITH AFRICA IS THE FATHER,WHICH MEANS MOTHER WHITE +

    FATHER BLACK = BLACK AND WHITE,CLEARLY KENYAN AMERICAN.

    END OF STORY,THEREFORE THIS BLACK AMERICANS CAN NOT TAKE ANY CREDIT FOR OBAMA’S SUCCESS,MOST BLACK AMERICAN ARE THUGS,GANGSTAS,COONS AND MAYBE A RAPPER OR A DRUG DEALER OR A BASKETBALL PLAYER,AFRICANS ALWAYS MAKE USE OF EVERY OPPORTUNITIES TO GET EDUCATED,BLACK AMERICAN FEMALES ARE THE SAMETHING HAVING KIDS WITH DIFFERENT BABY FATHERS,FOR INSTANCE NAS GIRLFRIEND CHEATED ON HIM IN ORDER TO GET FAMOUS,JANET JACKSON EXPOSED HER NIPPLES FOR FAME AND CD SALES,EVE MADE A SEX TAPE E.T.C,PLASE BLACK AMERICANS THINK ABOUT WHERE YOUR LIFE IS HEADING STOP PUTING OUR RACE DOWN,BLACK AMERICANS HAVE THE LOWEST SELFESTEEM,IN YOUR VIEW WHEN YOU ARE TOO DARK THATS UGLY,DONT BLAME WHITE PEOPLE FOR NOTHING,THEY LOVE DARK AKIN,YALL SUFFER FROM SELF HATRED DISEASE.
