If not a single team caring enough to come see him workout didn’t convince Terrell Owens this should do the trick.
The Arena Football League’s Chicago Rush have offered Owens a one-year contract for the 2012 season.
Announced in a press release, the Rush are hoping to lure the once-elite wide receiver to the AFL now that his opportunities at the sport’s highest level appear to be dwindling.
Terrell would absolutely complement our current wide receiving corps. His animated and over-the-top energy would be an excellent addition to our locker room, and the Chicago fans would undoubtedly welcome him here in Chicago.
That’s a quote in the press release from Rush head coach Bob McMillen, presumably one of the key people pushing for the Rush to acquire Owens. It’s hard to disagree with his assessment of Owens’ possible value, though, as the receiver managed to take in 72 receptions for 983 yards and 10 touchdowns last season with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the wide-open, fast-paced style used in the AFL, Owens could potentially thrive even as he nears his 40th birthday.
Yikes. You know it’s time to hang it up when people have to throw in those types of qualifiers. We’re sure T.O. is off crying about this somewhere.
