Bossip: How did you first get your start in the hair industry?

Ericka: Well I specialized in hair weaving and extensions. When I was working as a professional hairstylist, I discovered this beautiful hair from India that blended so well with my client’s hair, was easy for them to maintain and had this amazing longevity. I later ran into my existing business partner who had more sources and connections in India and after that, was history. We formed Indique.

B: Where does the name Indique come from?

E: It’s “India” and “Unique” put together.

B: So what makes Indique hair so unique?

E: Indique has an actual hair factory where all of the hair is treated and manufactured. Most companies outsource their hair from other vendors leaving you with inconsistent product. Indique also offers the Bounce Collection that is processed via steam curling. Most companies chemically perm their hair to achieve special wave and curl patterns. We offer several different textures and all our hair is remy, which means the hair is cutically aligned to prevent shedding and tangling. Indique hair is natural, it is all temple hair imported from India to the United States. We are the first hair company to really take action in branding Indian hair on a high level. Image is key for us. We work hard to ensure the product is superior.

B: You’ve had celebrities from Lady Gaga, Angela Simmons, Lala to Ciara and Chanel Iman wear Indique Hair. What has been the biggest highlight of all the celeb endorsements so far?

E: The biggest highlight has been seeing the response of all the clients and the weave lovers. They represent just beautiful hair. One highlight for me was seeing Chanel Iman wearing our hair in a Victoria’s Secret commercial. Their commercials are always so beautiful with the professional lighting and top models. I’m just happy to work with all our celebrity clients because they set trends that people look at.

B: Speaking of trends, what are the hottest hair trends for the Fall and Winter seasons?

E: What trend I’ve come across recently is the peach hair. You don’t have to get a full peach single process color but you can use highlights of yellow, strawberry and vibrant pink together and add water to make a pastel peach color. Also single colors like warm chestnut and golden highlights to bring out your complexion in the winter months. Don’t be afraid of using colors.

B: Do you have any weave do’s and don’ts you would like to share with our readers?

E: First it’s important to think about your lifestyle and what texture best goes with it. For example: If you’re growing out a relaxer, you may want to tuck awat all your hair and braid it down. So the best texture would be something curly and full. Or if you want a natural look with a side part with your own hair out, I would suggest a relaxed straight texture. A collection we carry is called “Natural Roots” which is a relaxed straight look a couple inches below the wefts but a less relaxed texture starting in the root for a more believable look. The selection is important.
