Rev. Jeremiah Wright speaks on the media’s tactics in a report by Livesteez:

Wright will be speaking at Northwestern University tonight, delivering a “State of the Black Union” address as part of the university’s Diversity Week program. The address, titled “Redeeming & Reclaiming our Community” is at 7 p.m. at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., in Evanston.

The videos, which included Wright thundering “God d@mn America!”, dominated cable television for weeks. The public outrage that followed caused the president-elect to sever ties with his longtime spiritual leader.Wright told an audience of about 200 people at the Thursday forum that he was trying to convey the anger and desire for vengeance that people felt after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He said the media failed to mention that he was a proud Christian who was raised in a Christian home.

“Their intention was to use me as a weapon of mass destruction, to tear down that man’s integrity,” said Wright, former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

We all knew that Barack Obama was a man of greatness, but we had no idea his integrity required an entire Weapon of Mass Destruction to be torn down. We want some of what Obama’s got, because it only takes one shot of Patron for our integrity to go flying out the window. SMH at our integrity

Honestly what Rev. Wright said was not anything we have not heard before and some of it I agree with, it was just not the time. We know how afraid some of america is about a black leader, that’s why so many are murdered and they have all these skinhead attempts on his life, And please believe they were looking for any skeletons

    in his closet

  • The_Truth

**Rev. Wright said nothing wrong. . .he was used against Obama because they had nothing else.

Blacks were already seen as “non-patriotic” so they used him to validate the idea. Rev. Wright was demonized and the dumb n!ggas listened to what “BOSS” told them to believe. . .he’s a strong black pastor that is proud of Barack.

    @ the truth

    I agree!!

    @ the truth

like one reporter asking Barack if he considered himself a black man or an american like you cannot be both.

  • MarieDaGuru

I respect right as a speaker and a war veteran.

He was on POINT in his message. I don’t agree with any of my pastors 100 percent.

Many things that were said were taken out of context.

Obama did what he had to do and I along with Wright respect and honor that.

Yes, America has DAMNED themselves by their f’d up actions and backward ways. That’s what Wright was saying. He was saying nothing any different about America than what American’s as a majority already show about themselves.

If we ALL work together with the Obama administration we can get this nation headed in the right direction.

I agree Rev. Wright did noting wrong, I even agree with some of what he said in regard to AmeriKKKa..The media took sound bites from some of his speeches and twisted his words around. It’s funny how white people get mad when someone tells them the ugly truth about their country, if you’re not buying into their “God Bless America” bullshyt you’re considered unpatriotic or some type of angry black radical. Just like they did Michelle’s “for the first time I’m proud of my country” comment. White people don’t understand that everyone’s experience in this country is different depending on your race, sex, and social status.

Rev. Wright was used for the purpose of destroying Barack Obama, but it didn’t work. I hope he ill continue to speak out and tell his story.

Rev Wright didn’t say anything wrong. He got cast by the media as a hateful preach which he is not. He was just putting a mirror up in front of this country. His sermons were taken out of context. However, by speaking out after the controversy he didn’t help Barack’s chances William Ayers knew that any response would be disected. Khalidi knew that too. Why didn’t Wright know that? It almost came off like he tried to bury Barack. Not sure if it was ego or he just couldn’t keep quiet while the media tore him down.

So what Rev. Write had an affair with a white woman or a woman of any race. What man hasn’t??? What kill me about Wright’s critic’s (ESPECIALLY THE WHITE ONES) is that they act surprised that there are side effects from the civil rights era. This was a man who came home from the Vietnam war but couldn’t get a cab in NY with light skin. He was still considered a BOY in the south alone with millions of black men.

If anyone had a reason to blow this country up it was black people but instead we prayed and vented our anger in the church. There are still elderly black men alive today with stories of how they were ran out of the south. Just like women have side effects from abusive relationships, blacks have side effects from the civil right era. Don’t act surprise that an old black man has issues with this country.

  • Mrs. Cav

    So Somer…

You think the REVEREND’s actions are “side effects from the civil rights era”??? Are you f*cking kidding me??? The man stood in a pulpit, no less, and preached about the evils of the white man, but has a little vanilla on the side??? No big deal, huh? I guess you think he has a good excuse…

Is this a man you look up to???

I wonder when people will take a good hard look at themselves, before pointing the blame at someone else. The black community, for years, has worked hard at protecting their own and making excuses; but at what price??? How does this sort of example help young black men learn how to be MEN?

I don’t give a rat’s behind if he’s a preacher, old, young, dark or light. Boo hoo… Get over it. He’s a racist, self serving, bitter piece of garbage. I just love how he says he was “used” by the media.

When does the venting stop??? Many people have been discriminated in this country… Black, white, asian, hispanic. Does that give you a free pass to do as you please???

Let him be the pastor of YOUR church then; not mine; thanks!

  • Somer

Mrs. Cav, I think u are really Elizabeth from the view. I am not a fan of Wright but I understand where his anger is coming from. Watch Eyes on the Prize if you are not familiar with civil rights era. What I am saying is that you can not beat & lynch and expect the family, friends and eye witnesses to such events to just forget. When I see pictures of Emmitt Till in his casket it’s a clear reminder of how evil white people can be. I saw the pictures, some black men still alive saw his body in person. When I see pictures of whites & their children looking up smiling at lynched black men, it’s a reminder. Mrs. Cav, you are truely naive if you think black men from that era just got over it.

  • President Barack Obama

Somer you sound likea terrorist with your blowing up America. Might wanna watch what you say or you could end up like those white boys in Arkansas who are facing life in prison for threats. Fact is Wright is no better than David Duke and the KKK. Same type of hatred only different color of skin. Actually Wright looks more mixed than Obama, Hmm.

Mrs cav, I couldn’t agree with you more with what you said. Well done!

  • Somer

Mrs. Cav = President Obama. You need help for patting yourself on the back. Good Job.

  • Somer

Name me one thing Rev Wright did compared to the KKK. How many people did he kill or lynch? You cannot compare Wright to the KKK.

  • Razzell Dazzell

Rev Wright must be biting his bottom lip right now. Had he kept his mouth closed post the tapes he could have mended his relationship with Barack. While I don’t agree with everything he has said, I can appreciate his perspective and opinion. He lived at a different time. I could not even begin to understan what he endured, thus I can’t criticize he experience. However, I do feel he tried to derail Barack after the comments. He disregarded the love, admiration and respect Barack had for him and try to further his personal endeavors, one being is extra matrital affair. He’ll be on every talk show, writing a book and trying to get back in contact with Barack (if he hasn’t already). It’s a shame, truly a shame!

  • about it

I really liked Rev. Wright, but I am disappointed about the affair. The ministry is a calling and ministers should be able to resist temptation.

He was not trying to do in Barack Obama. He was beginning a book tour and he wanted to sell his books!! He was asked by Obama to give the convocation when Barack announced his candidacy for the presidency and then had the invitation to do so pulled. He was hurt.

And no, I am not from Chicago and do not attend his church, but he did not screw up another black man’s gig because he did become low key even while on his book tour which was planned before Barack’s campaign.

But what a church, he is having an affair, the choir director is murdered. Jeez

  • Sistah_PhD2be

    @MsCav

Rev Wright is not a racist. I suggest you do your research on that topic to make an intelligent and rational determination. Until then, please stop using The good ole Rev. as a scapegoat for the havock Whites have wreaked on Blacks. Tanks much! (Trini Lingo)

  • Mrs. Cav

    Thanks, “President Barack Obama”…

BTW, my vote counted in helping to make history and putting him Obama into office.

For the record, I am a 30 year old white woman who was raised in one of the worst areas of Prince Georges County, MD. I was one of the only white kids in my elementary and middle school. At 12 years old, I was “jumped” by 4 black girls while at school and called every derogatory white name you could think of. The reason they jumped me??? Because they said I didn’t belong in “their” school because I was white.

DO NOT tell me that because of someone’s past experiences, no matter how terrible they be, justifies hate, resentment or bitterness to an entire race of people. I experienced some of the most disgusting and biased treatment you could imagine, MANY TIMES IN MY LIFE, yet I have enough common sense to know that not every black person in the world would behave that way. Some people, including Reverend Wright, seem to think that way… That is why I say, get over it. Times have changed people!!! Obviously, considering what has just happened in our country.

People want to hold on to the past, which I can certainly respect in regard to struggle, but at what point do you say, “I should really move on”???

Anytime you have a majority race or religion of people, the minority in that group will have things to overcome. I get upset when I don’t see people recognizing that blacks, asians, whatever, CAN BE RACIST, TOO!!! But, no one wants to admit that. Hatred begets hatred. Reverend Wright has hatred towards white people and therefore, he is no better than a KKK member, a Black Panther, a White Supremist. Many hate-filled groups function under the guise of “race pride”; this is a fact.

I am proud to say that after my experiences in life, where I was the victim of race filled hate, I do not hold that against anyone but the people that committed the act. That is called maturity. Common sense would tell you that ignorant, uneducated people think and behave that way, not every person who has particular color of skin.

It isn’t my responsibility to pay (through guilt, apology, etc.) for someone else’s sin. Take that up with the person who did it, NOT ME! I don’t expect to get much support on my opinion, considering my skin color makes me a minority on these boards, but my experience was just as real as anyone elses…

God bless Barack Obama, I pray that he does an amazing job helping our great nation.

    Peace people…

Anyone that continues to go to this man’s church is a damn fool!

  • MeLLoWMoOdd

We know how we feel about what we go through and we all talk amounst ourselves. But we can’t be spitting out white hate and expect to win a pulic office like the Presidentcy. Thats why Obama distanced himself from Jeremiah…his big gradical mouth would have cost Obama everything.
