An 8 year old boy in Arizona smoked his dad and another man:

A man who police believe was shot and killed by his 8-year-old son had consulted a Roman Catholic priest about whether the boy should handle guns and had taught him how to use them, the clergyman said Saturday. The father, Vincent Romero, 29, was from a family of avid hunters and wanted to make sure the boy wasn’t afraid of guns and knew how to handle them, said the Very Rev. John Paul Sauter of St. Johns Catholic Church. The boy’s stepmother had suggested he have a BB gun, the priest said. Romero taught his son how to use a rifle to kill prairie dogs, Sauter said. Police say the boy used a 22.-caliber rifle Wednesday to kill his father and another man, Timothy Romans, 39, of San Carlos. The priest did not say how he advised the couple or whether they decided to buy him a gun but said Saturday that the boy “was just too young.” “That child, I don’t think he knows what he did, and it was brutal,” said Sauter, who presided at the wedding of the father and stepmother.

The boy, who faces two counts of premeditated murder, did not act on the spur of the moment, St. Johns Police Chief Roy Melnick said. Police are looking into whether he might have been abused. “I’m not accusing anybody of anything at this point,” he said Saturday. “But we’re certainly going to look at the abuse part of this. He’s 8 years old. He just doesn’t decide one day that he’s going to shoot his father and shoot his father’s friend for no reason. Something led up to this.” On Friday, a judge ordered a psychological evaluation of the boy. Under Arizona law, charges can be filed against anyone 8 or older. The boy had no record of complaints with Arizona Child Protective Services, said Apache County Attorney Brad Carlyon. In a sign of the emotional and legal complexities of the case, police are pushing to have the boy tried as an adult even as they investigate possible abuse, Melnick said. If convicted as a minor, the boy could be sent to juvenile detention until he turns 18. The boy’s lawyer, Benjamin Brewer, said his client is generally in good spirits.

Officers arrived at Romero’s home within minutes of the shooting Wednesday in St. Johns, which has a population of about 4,000 and is 170 miles northeast of Phoenix. They found one victim just outside the front door and the other dead in an upstairs room. Romans had been renting a room at the Romero house, prosecutors said. Both men were employees of a construction company working at a power plant near St. Johns. The boy went to a neighbor’s house and said he “believed that his father was dead,” Carlyon said. Melnick said police got a confession, but Brewer said police overreached in questioning the boy without representation from a parent or attorney and did not advise him of his rights.

How do you charge an 8 year old as an adult? Even if he is a homocidal sociopath, he’s still a third grader. SMH

Just WOW is all I can say

I To don’t think he should be charged as an adult

They need to evaluate him mentally & find out WHY he did it, he’s 8, he knew by shooting them he would kill them, but WHY ?

  • Brandon

I Mean SHOULDN’T be charged as an adult

  • http://myspace.com/toolive4urcrew Katherine

hmmm, i honestly don’t know what to think about this..i wont say anything since he’s a child

  • HoustonianLadyLove

It has to be something mentally wrong for an 8-year old to kill! This is sad. I wonder what was going through his mind, he’s only 8. What is this world coming to.

  • http://myspace.com/toolive4urcrew Katherine

But charging him as an adult is ridiculous, he’s no where near being an adult…are legal system is a joke

These kids usually grow up to become murderers. I mean the strain put upon him after he really finds out what he did when he gets to an age of higher understanding, this is what causes these kids to snap.

  • bubsy

didnt an 8 year old kill himself with an uzi not too long? parents need to keep their young children the hell away from guns. i feel bad for this kid though, he most likely doesnt fully realize what hes done but when he matures its gonna hit him like a brick

  • Tracey

Mad parents, they should have went the whole hog and taught the boy how to sleep with prostitutes and how to take drugs??

    IDIOTS

And no the boy shouldnt be charged, he should be cared for and protected by real parents who will nuture him into being a rounded adult and help him deal with his past!

  • kimberlee

    crazy, crazy f’n parents.

  • Jupiter

I believe they raped him, there is a high percentage of child molestation within the catholic religion….if it was the case, the kid was right to kill them…

  • ShavonDenise

This is just some the “Good Son”, Macaulay Culkin sh*t. The main problem to me is that people who are this right to bear arms advocates. Some of these people arent talking about small handguns for protection but high powered rifles and uzis! And yes *bubsy* a kid of the same age shot himself with an uzi at a gun show because it was too powerful for him to keep straight. This is rediculous and I feel like the same way people get called unfit parents when their kids are out gangbanging and robbing, these parents in this above instances need to held accountable for forcing a child not to make his own decision when he is an adult to learn how to use a gun.

yous a stupid hoodho. You cant be nurchuring a demonseed. That little white basterd needs to be put to sleep. Wut foster parint in they rite mind would want to turn they back on that little erick and lyle melendez muthafukka.

  • Tracey

@Hotsauce ADULTS and so called parents felt it was right for a CHILD to learn adult material and HENCE with the end result!

  • PURPPLE

they had to be abusing that lil boy..or something…

  • Tracey

@Purpple, they abused the child the moment they gave him a gun.

  • sepia830

The father was an avid hunter, huh? Somewhere some animals are laughing their asses off.

Kids should never have access to guns of any kind, period.

  • http://signoftimes@msn.org mild sauce part of the sauce family tradition

white on white crime is ridiculous n tje father was wrong in killing innocent animals.. hint doesnt make Michael Vick seem so bad, i ahte it when white folks said MV was so bad but yet they hunt and kill animals all day long!

    thats hate!

  • FURIOUZ STYLEZ

THIS IS KID IS DENNIS THE MENACE GONE POSTAL

WHEN KIDS HIT 8 THEY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG

    CLEARLY THIS IS DEAD WRONG…LITERALLY

  • Essie

Damn he might be like the lil boy in the movie “Joshua”, I don’t trust all kids, he maybe a lil sinister.

I can see if he just shot one of them but both? Let’s be real he’s eight, he knows the difference between right n wrong, and death!

  • Tracey

@Furiouz The boy was taught wrong was right…that is the difference, he was taught how to kill and killed.

  • kimberlee

    @ essie…

thought the same thing about both… one could be an accident..not fully realizing the consequences… but two? yea…has to be some kinda abuse for a child to be able to slip into a pychosis.

  • luckyyall

listen at 8 years old you know right from wrong, there are millions of kids out there that grow up around guns. especially in other countries and their not out killing their parents and their friends. that lil boy is unstable. the first person is a accident the second person not so much. he by no means need to be out around other kids and adults. he needs to be sent away til he is 18 years old.

  • Tall Buildings & Speeding Bullets! (Damn! Its hard out here for a Pimp!)

Damn! This child is no doubt in need of clinical help. Charging him as an adult and incarcerating him until age 18 will only create a very sick individual turned loose on the public 10 years from now. That would be the kind of stuff mass murderes are made of. He needs some kind of therapy now to find out what going on in his head or bomb manufacturing may one day take place in there….then watch out!

  • Tisha

The parents are to blame. His dad is deceased because of his poor decision making. An 8 year old is too young to handle a deadly weapon. Any parent caught putting dangerous weapons in a minors hand including a BB gun should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

This terrrible tragedy happened because of poor parenting. This boy clearly has physcological, and behavior problems. The parents instead of protecting him, harmed him by training him to kill.

I have little empathy for his deceased father or stepmother who failed to intervene. She only suggested he use a BB gun which is dangerous as well. I hope this child gets all of the help that he clearly needs.

  • AK

Way to go little dude!!! It’s better for him to get that anger out now than before he gets to high school.

  • Zoe

This child is still a ‘baby’….something horrible has to have happened in that household for him to no longer tolerate it anymore….

  • Tisha

    @ Tall Buildings

He is already a sick individual. Normal 8 year olds do not run around plotting their parents murder and going through with it. Yes the parents trained him to kill but a child’s normal instinct is to love their parents.

He needs to be isolated from the general population, because this child has some demons corrupting his soul.

  • http://ignoranceinc.blogspot.com Ignorance Inc

This is what happens when hillbillies try to act smart. teaching your 8 year old how to use a rifle to kill dogs? i wonder what else or who else they trained him to shoot at. Prarie dogs are definitely a big problem in the world today, they have to be dealt with! Dumb ass hillbilly

finding a hard time believing that an 8-yr old kiled two men, one being his father.

Are they sure no one else was in the apartment?

Something smells very badly in this story!!

  • indigogg

Normal kids don’t kill small animals and then try to do the same to their parents. Euthanize the boy.

  • I’m Just Me-BLACK MEN….YOU HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES

    WOW!!!

  • IsleZeus

This is the effect of exposure to violence (hunting) and probably video games, where these children can’t really different reality from fantasy at times?

  • AJ

Charge him as an adult. If it were a little black boy they would not have sympathy. It would not be a question of him not knowing what he were doing. These kids see murder and death in videos, on TV and on the news. They know what they are doing at 8 years old. But white people will have the utmost sympathy for their own and no sympathy for ours.

  • DR.FUNK

I wonder what LAURA SCHLESINGER thinks of this.

  • DR.FUNK

    @IGNORANCE INC.:

“Prairie Dogs” are actually ground boring RODENTS.Parents who hunt teach their children to shoot using them as target practice.Been doing it for the last 100 plus years. The father in this case may have started a tad early with the lessons.

  • DR.FUNK

    @Isle Zeus:

Gotta agree to a point.Maybe in the pre-video game era-a kid that age would have a more solid context for the proper use of a gun because it’s just the kid…the gun…and the parent.Nowadays-DAAYUM! You wanna put a REAL GUN in the hands of some video gaming kid who just “killed” 50 “people” in spectacular fashion to get to the next level?! Not wise.

  • mMm

First off, I think that most kids who grow up around guns do NOT end up killing someone. Second, if the kid had been taught about hunying, and had actively seen the results of what it does (kills the creature, and it doesn’t get back up, not like in a video game) then he knew exactly what he was doing. And if he didn’t know before he shot the first one, he damn sure knew after he did it, but he still shot the second one. Which means either the kid is psychotic or he was real upset about something. I don’t think this is a race issue, why make it into one. It sucks because its a kid. Black or white, its heart breaking. But to the people equating hunting with dog fighting…. WTF???? Explain??

  • PURPLE SPARKLE

I believe that the little boy was being sexually abused by the father…there is a long history of child molestation within the Catholic religion so it wouldnt surprise me…..if this is true the little boy was RIGHT to kill them….

  • Secondrun

Instead of teaching this kid about the value of life, he was taught the value of killing – and unfortunately it backfired on the masters. It was “probably” the parents intentions on teaching the child how to protect himself and hunt for food, but the truth is, that is way tooo much for an 8 year old. An 8 year old lives in a fictional reality and teaching him about guns only help him act out deadly aggression when he faces situations he is too immature to deal with. I am sure in the case of his father and the other man, there was some “premeditation” but I don’t think that is the question with an 8 year old. I think the question is does an 8 year know and understand the full impact of his actions? Does he understand shooting a man goes far beyond getting revenge, and that, there are grave consequences that can come with it? Hunting animals did not present this 8 year old with understanding this reality. He hunted and killed animals – and you know? Ate a meal afterwards…

  • Elo

I think something had to of happened to drive him to do this…he had no history of bad behavior anywhere…unless he is the antichrist child from the Omen who has everyone fooled I don’t think an 8 yr old has the mental capacity to kill unless violence has been taught to him….

  • *MiSsUndersto0d*

WELL, im a human services and psychology major, and i agree with tracey and tall buildings..in no way do i believe this child should just be locked away until he is 18, because what would that solve?? he needs to be mentally evaluated to understand why this heinous crime has been committed so young..this child could be sent away and end up even worse because he was just thrown into the system (and you what could go on there)..since he is so young, he can still be rehabilitated-the right way..well, thats just the psychologists ethical theory ;-) *shrug*

  • Ginger

TAKE THIS CHILD”S PICTURE DOWN. I WILL CONTACT THE AUTHORITIES.

  • BETTYEJ

Ginny, you are still in school. Listen, in todays society as long as the kid is White, you feel that he doesn’t need to be locked up because of his age. And that his picture should not be posted right? I got news for you. Sarah Palin was in a picture with her little girl with a rifle, with some animal she had killed, blood and all.

I feel no pity for him or these other killers because white people raise them to believe that they can do what they please.

He knows right from wrong and sure his family taught him to kill. He just flip the script on his Dad. That white chick, Nancy Grace will talk about it to dealth with the other spin masters weighting in and as usually, nothing will be done.

Lock his azz up, sooner then later!

  • BETTYEJ

Ginny, when they start rehabilitating black kids, look me up, Get back with me, ok!

  • WeStKoaSt

They shouldn’t have gave an eight year old a rifle anyway. Guns are not toys.

  • Sapphire9800

There is nothing wrong with this child, he was taught at an early age how to use a rifle and hunt. We can thank all of the people McCain/Palin) during the rallies that kept pushing the issues about guns.

He knew shooting that rifle will kill..I know he is a child but in FL, there was case involving an African American child and he was treated as an adult.

The only problem I have we children murderers is what happen when they come home after being institutionalize with all types of criminals.

  • Marg

As I Catholic, I know that anything said to a priest cannot be revealed under any condition. I suspect that the reason the dad consulted with a priest might have been apart of a confession regarding the boy’s treatment at home. I’m sure the truth with come out in time. So sad!

  • Marg

    BettyJ

Yeah watch Nancy talk about this forever.

  • Nita

I don’t think he did it. The police didn’t give this kid his rights or access to an attorney. Something’s not right with story.

Again, I don’t think he did it.

  • White Devil

Now whenever I see a little white kid, I will move to the other side of the street and avoid eye contact.

  • chitownsfinest

First off, I didnt know that his photo could even be shown since he’s a minor. I have very mixed feelings about this situation. Something, I wont say what, but something had to happen to that kid. Why in the world would he kill his father and his dad’s coworker? It’s a sad day in America when you continue to see crap like this in the news.

  • questionable2012

Let’s all think back. Remember the case in South Florida (the Lionel Tate Case, at the time Lionel Tate was 8 years old when he killed his playmate by mistake when he throw her aganist the stairs while playing. He was 8 years old and charged as a adult and sentenced to a adult life term!!!!!!!!!

  • questionable2012

Of course Lionel Tate is a African American

Is it just me or does this “STORY” not sound right??? I have a five year old and he FULLY understands the concept of death. Not that my child is brilliant by any means but i have a few questions such as… Why is a parent so concerned with an 8 year old shooting a gun AT ALL??? I live in Michigan and hunting is just as popular here as anywhere else and I wonder if all my ELEMENTARY friends were packing heat??? The problem to me is that so MANY are ready and willing to say that the end of days is upon us because we have a black man leading the country. Why do we not feel the same way about this??????

*able to express higher thinking on an everyday level*

  • m.d.

i still don’t know what to make of this tragedy. not to point fingers or assume but there had to be something going on behind the scenes for this child to kill. it’s just so sad. this child needs an evaluation and a hug. if they try him as an adult it’ll be another child lost in the system. you would think laws would change by now to try to help troubled kids instead of just putting them in a cell and throwing away the key.

  • blah

    The world is just flucked.

  • the_one

How is it premeditated murder unless there is evidence that he planned to kill them. This is sad and people wonder why I am against hand guns at any level. People who own them are cowards, PERIOD, now this young man’s life is ucked.

  • Kettles and Pot

“Kids” around this age (and some younger!) have killed parents and others without being abused. Some for thrills with the excuse the movies and video games made them do it, others because the parents put down rules which now means, don’t give your kids rules, boundaries, discipline, because hey they might try to kill ya and the rest of the world will brand you a pedophile … I wonder how many kids pull the abuse issue because mommy or daddy didn’t buy them MORE of what they wanted. Yeah abuse happens, maybe it happened in this case, even then MURDER IS NOT A DEFENSE. But maybe nothing like that happened at all. NO FACTS have been released concerning the case. Yeah, everybody is going to walk in with preconceived notions but the P and M words get tossed out to explain something and BLAME THE VICTIMS to explain a concept that your mind can’t grasp.

… If the kid was black, would you be in as much of a rush to think the same thing?

  • Cynt

this is just such a sad sad story. but how the hell can they charge an 8 yr old as an adult? he’s only been on this earth for 8 yrs! WTF?

  • vgeezy

I think he was abused by his dad and maybe this other man also…..

  • Mo

He was probably abused by both men…at least one. If only one he felt that the other allowed it. And 8 year old doesn’t just up and kill his caretakers fro no reason. They did some awful things to that poor boy.

  • Thetruthhurts

I mean what are they really going to do…put him away in juvenile detention; give him therapy for 10 years; so you can get him to (learn) to understand what he did; second (learn) to acknowledge what he did; (learn) to accept what he did. Then make him a sociopath while he is juvenile detention because all of the contradicting therapy he will get..and then release him into the world; with no social skills to interact with other people especially females. Only Jesus will save this little boy. Nothing will happen to him, and nothing should.

  • DFW

I live in AZ and the 8-year olds picture has not been released . If the picture that you have is of someone else you should specify that.

  • roe ski love

If you give an 8 year old a gun and tell him it’s ok to kill something (prairie dogs)he now has parental approval to kill. He now makes a stupid decision that killing dogs is not satisfying enough, so he kills humans instead. At 8 years old he cannot phathom what he just did, its going to take years of therapy to help this kid out. Any parent teaching there kidds at 8 to go out and kill something (including hunting)is a little sick themselves. When you kill something animal or human it will change you forever. Teach your kidds to be happy and passive so they will have long productive lives without drama and trauma.
