The Presidential Life: Check Out The House The Obamas Will Be Calling Home During Their $4 Million Hawaiian Vacation

First Family's Christmas Vacation In Hawaii Under Scrutiny Because Of Estimated $4 Million Price Tag

Like many families across the country, the Obamas are gearing up for a little holiday vacay back home, which of course, for Barry-O and the gang means Hawaii.

And once again, while there are much more pressing issues in the world, the cost of the Obama family vacation is making headlines… But we’re not sure if the media is tripping this time. The First Family’s 17-day vacation is going to cost an estimated $4 million. And guess who’s paying for most of that…

How does it cost a million dollars per person to send four people to Hawaii for a little less than three weeks, you ask?

Here’s the breakdown:

TRAVEL: $3,629,622
STAFF HOUSING: $151,200
STAFF HOTEL ROOMS: $72,216
LOCAL TAXPAYER COSTS: $260,000
(that includes police overtime, an ambulance on standby, etc.)
UNKNOWN COSTS: for the sake of the first family’s safety, the White House keeps certain details of their vacation confidential, i.e. where the President will be working while in Hawaii, security upgrades, etc.

Does that sound like a bit much? We’re sure that the First Family’s visit is also going to boost Kailua’s economy while they’re in town too, though.

Let’s start with the house they’ll be renting. This 4 bedroom, 5 bath, 5000 square foot beachfront “cottage” is currently listed for $9 Million. No word on how much the Obamas will be paying to rent it, but they will be paying for this one out of pocket.

Hit the flip to see the house Barry, Chelly, Malia and Sasha O will be calling home for the holidays.
