Poor Xtina… living that #strugglelife. Wait a minute, this itchbay is paid out the kitty, what does this ho know about that single mom struggle?!?!
Christina Aguilera is a divorcee, a box office bomb and a member of the “National Anthem” flub club. But she is also, most decidedly, a fighter.
The 31-year-old singer opens up about floundering in the spotlight over the past few years in the February issue of Marie Claire, calling the string of incidents that ended with her embarrassing Super Bowl performance “a rough year.”
Following her 2010 divorce from husband of five years Jordan Bratman, Aguilera’s album “Bionic” and film “Burlesque” both pulled in low numbers and numerous critical reviews.
“It’s hard for anyone to go through that in public,” she said of her failed marriage with the music executive. “But when you’re a celebrity and under a microscope, it’s 58 million times harder.
“I grew an even thicker skin after that hard year.”
Aguilera, who has one son, Max Liron, with Bratman, said her new life as a single mom has helped her reprioritize her life and become a stronger person.
“I love the theatrics, and entertaining is what I was put on this earth to do, but there’s a superficiality to it,” she said. “Becoming a mother has helped me to realize who I am aside from my career.”
Aguilera has since made a comeback, unapologetically stomping her sky-high Louboutins about the stage as one of four judges on NBC’s hit singing competition “The Voice.”
But while she’s still a workaholic – Aguilera is also currently in the studio recording a new album in addition to working with the World Food Programme to raise funds to fight hunger – family is her priority now.
“The decisions I’ve made thus far have been made for Max’s benefit,” she said. “It comes from a place of wanting peace, not chaos.
“I was raised in a very chaotic home, and that’s one thing I have no patience for. I have to surround my son with positive, strong relationships so that he feels he has a cohesive family.”
Still, raising a child alone has proven to be difficult for the singer.
“It’s hard not having the consistency of a partnership on a daily basis,” Aguilera said.
“It’s a struggle. But I can’t single out my ex-husband [as the problem] because he’s a devoted father and great with my son,” she added. “We always make sure that we put Max first. I have help from family and good people around me in support of my career. I couldn’t do what I do without a strong team behind me.”
We know Marie Claire didn’t put it in their story, but we bet Max thinks it’s a real struggle having a freak for a mom too.
