In Montecito, Yorba Linda, Corona, and Brea, California, fires have been blazing out of control for 2 days now and hundreds of homes have been lost:

Southern Californians weathered a second straight day of devastation Saturday as wind-blasted wildfires destroyed hundreds of homes, shut down major freeways and forced thousands of residents in the path of flames to flee to safety. Montecito, ranked by Forbes magazine in 2006 as the seventh most expensive area in the US, with an average home price of $2.9m (£1.9m), is a popular retreat for the rich and famous. Celebrities such as talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey and Hollywood actors Michael Douglas, Jeff Bridges and Rob Lowe all own property in the area.

A wildfire stoked by powerful Santa Ana winds damaged or destroyed at least 42 homes in Yorba Linda and Corona Saturday and charred more than 1,000 acres. The fire forced thousands to evacuate the area, while streets and freeways were snarled with traffic.A smaller fire also burned in Brea, near Carbon Canyon and Olinda Village.

It is rumored that the fire was started by an ex-owner of a home. Apparently, it made more sense for him to set that b*tch ablaze once it foreclosed.

We have several pictures from the fire below.

I knew we were going to have fires when the Santa Ana’s came through…

while everyone else in in Winter, it’s hot as hell here…then the fires break out.

My home is okay, but there is a fire just over the ridge….that sh*t is scary as hell.

I’ve been through hurricans, and I take them any day over a fire. At least they have a name and you know they’re coming.

    With fires, you get trapped.

I was just watching this on CNN… it’s CRAZY!!

They say sometimes a simple flick of a lit cigarette can a catstrophe of this magnitude, but the crazy thing is NOT BEING ABLE TO PUT IT OUT once it gets started.

I REALLY feel for the people who’ve lost their homes. This is so sad.

I have lived in So. Cali for many years and it still amazes me why people continiually purchase homes in areas that are well known for annual catastrophic occurences such as landslides or fires???

I was just watching this on CNN…

They say sometimes all it takes is for you to throw a lit cigarette to cause such a catastrophe. It’s crazy, because once it starts, you CAN’T PUT IT OUT!!!

I really feel sorry for the people who’ve lost their homes.

    You’re in my prayers.

I live in Orange County California and knew the fires had a 95% change of starting when it got super hot last week and the winds were kicking up at 50-60 mph.

I just thank God it didn’t get any closer than 20-25 miles from where I live.

Every year this happens and it gets worse and worse. Then, you have the crazies who add to it by starting fires intentionally. It’s unbelievable

MissBlaze43 is right. Once it starts, especially if there is a lot of dry brush around, the fire goes where it wants to go. If the fire has enough fuel it will jump over freeways and hit the next county moving extremely fast especially if the winds are strong.

They had people on the freeways yesterday who could not turn around and could not go forward, so they were stuck. Some people got out of their cars and left them on the freeway because the air quality was so bad.

The mayor was telling people in the Los Angeles area not to have any BBQ’s, conserve water and electricity so more water would be available for the fireman to use.

My hat is off to the firemen and women who battle these monsters all day and night. Some of these men and women have not been home for 4 days.

My heart goes out to all the people who lost their homes to this tragedy.
