Former Dirty Money member and now solo singer/songwriter Dawn Richard, is prepping for her upcoming EP Armor On, the prequel to the Goldenheart Trilogy. Dawn wanted to introduce the sound of heart music by releasing the interlude “Change”.

“The sound is aggressive, militant but soulful,” says Richard. “I wanted to add a New Orleans base in times of the second line, in celebration of our culture. Druski, the key producer of the EP married the influences to tell the story of Goldenheart.”

In this record Change, you hear Dawn speaking of a love that hasn’t change in spite of her personal mishaps.

“I used this metaphor to inspire the [hearts] and tell them that we are imperfect but still worth loving. I didn’t want to do a corny idea of love. I wanted it to have a strength to it and not be cliche. I want to push the hearts to hear R&B in a different way.”
