According to Livesteez, Jay-Z and Beyonce are at the top of Forbe’s power couples list for earnings this year:
The music industry’s hottest couple, Bey and Jay raked in mega dough this past year, as if it wasn’t already expected, considering the multiple million-dollar business ventures they’re both linked to.
The royal pair topped Forbes’ richest celebrity couples list, collectively making a whopping $162 million in 2008, beating out other power couples who also make big bucks.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith took the No. 2 spot, with $85 million earned together, while David and Victoria Beckham rounded out the top three with annual earnings of $58 million, reports say.
“Naturally, powerful people tend to gravitate toward other powerful people,” clinical psychologist and celebrity researcher Jim Houran tells the magazine.
In related news, Mrs. Sasha Fierce appeared on BET’s 106 & Park Tuesday, promoting the release of her new album “I Am ….Sasha Fierce,” in which she performed the hit single, ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’. After the electric performance, Bey’ could be seen flashing her husband’s signature ‘Roc’ sign, preceded by a Heart, as she bashfully snickered at the camera.
WTF!!!! $162 million dollars in 2008 and the d@mn year isn’t even over yet. That makes Will and Jada’s $85 million look like lunch money. Congrats to both couples, though.

Rumor has it that Chess and James had a romantic relationship that never flowered because of circumstance, and Brody and Beyoncé are doing a good job of depicting that sexual tension.
“Cadillac Records” hits theaters Dec. 5, two weeks after Beyoncé’s double-album “I Am . . . Sasha Fierce” from Music World/Columbia Records hits shelves Nov. 18. It will be the singer’s third solo album and the first since she adopted a bit of James’ classic flair. “Doing ‘Cadillac Records,’ I realized that Etta James was so unapologetic, bold and strong that playing her was a big risk for me,” Beyoncé says. “It gave me the confidence and the push to challenge myself a little more with my music.”
It’s a good time for Beyoncé to be brave. On “I Am . . . Sasha Fierce,” the singer capitalizes on her established R&B fan base while stretching her pop music wings with radio-friendly tracks that she describes as “timeless.”
“I think we’ll sell 750,000 to 1 million copies [in the] first week,” says Music World head Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father and manager. “I know that’s ambitious with the declining market, but Beyoncé is so focused on transitioning from pop star to icon that we’re paying attention to every single detail.”

well I hope they know that the world’s heading for a depression. If you guys don’t know, that means when the dollar is worth nothing it becomes useless paper, you might as well burn it unless you convert it to gold but you would have to do that before your money is worth nothing. If they are smart they would start converting their money into gold or some other dollar before the USA dollar is worth nothing, then who wants money that’s worthless. Overall I am happy for them as long as they do right by GOD and other poor people than it’s great.

Has anyone else noticed all this “icon” talk? It seems to me that you must be judged an icon by history. I can understand having the aspiration, but even if she’s trying to hit all the icon touchpoints, maybe she and her father shouldn’t be so obvious about their intentions. In every single interview promoting this album, I’ve heard “icon”, “icon”, “icon” like their checking off a little checkbox. Diminishes it a little….
And I’m sorry, but I’m not feeling the new album. The “Sasha Fierce” – and the name’s rather corny…why didn’t Jay tell her? – album is juvenile. I like the lyrics on the “I Am…” album, and the alt-rock-easy listening vibe is a cool change of pace for a FEW records, but the sound could use a lot more variety. She could have souled up some of the songs on some Sade status. She’s seems to be reaching hard for that wide appeal, but she has to be careful about losing her base. It’s like the McCain campaign in reverse.
Actually, early numbers say beyonce is on her way to selling between 500,000 and 550,000 copies, which makes me think his quote is before the release of her actual album

How can anyone call anyone from this era of music an icon? I think of this era mary j is closest to icon status because she’s been here for 20yrs, not 11 or 12.
Success is not an accident. This is not magic, smoke and mirrors. Beyonce and Jay have put together a formula that works. There are those who are considered Icons yet they are not the best singers, dancers, or even the most creative. But they are consistent. Sometimes it seems as though we as black people only expect a few crumbs off of the table and if you achieve more it must be due to dishonesty. You have to believe you are worthy of it before you can achieve it. Beyonce put the icon out there because she believes she can be an icon, therefore she will be, trust she will work at it until it is achieved.

The entertainment and sports industry are not even close to the highest earners in this country, and if anyone is laughing at us, it’s certainly not because of that.
The majority of these sports and entertainment figures are employees (certain so-called ‘moguls’ included) and they are well aware of it. They get all the press for reasons other than the fact that they are so entertaining,and somehow our consumer populace is fooled into believing that they represent any real segment of the population.
But I hope that one day that we can change the channel from MTV and BET to CNBC and Bloomberg. That’s where we can learn how to make the type of money that Forbes can’t even follow.

I was thinking the same thing because Will is earning like $20MM per picture and sometimes he’s got like two moves out at the same time. Either way though, I don’t knock their hustle in making that dough.

No I can’t say that I have heard of that poll. However, I think alot of their displeasure may not have anything to do with their salary, but perhaps feeling burnt out. Having to go through years of school, putting our social life on hold and most of them don’t began practicing until their 30’s. I’m still intrigued as to why it is still so high it’s kind of like how Dentists have the highest suicide rate there must be some other correlating factor between the two.
