#ThrowbackThursdays LL Cool J “Ripper Strikes Back” * DJ Craig G Supplies the Soundtrack

- By Bossip Staff Categories: Blast From the Past, Did You Know, Entertainment

This week I caught up with Harlem Native & Resident Connecticut DJ/ On-air personality, DJ Craig G. As usual, we pick an era in hip hop that was a memorable moment for the DJ. Craig G picks the record and we discuss it.

The year was 1999. There was no Youtube or blog site to air out your differences in Hip Hop. If it wasn’t on wax, Cd or radio, “Forgetaboutit.” Craig G remembers, “This song was the song DJ’s were anticipating for their mixtapes to drop.”  Canibus put out “Second Round Knockout” as a response to LL getting at him on “4,3,2,1,” which was a song on LL’s album featuring Canibus, DMX, Redman & Method Man. Canibus was the new rising star in hip hop.  He called out LL Cool J, the one rapper with more on wax battles than most. This was not taken lightly. Long story short,  “Ripper Strikes Back” was released & DJ Craig G along with DJ P-Nice dropped the 1999 Classic mixtape “Money Ain’t A Thing”.
