Michelle and Barack have selected an elite private school in DC for their beautiful daughters:

There were obvious reasons for the Obamas to pick Sidwell Friends for their daughters Sasha and Malia. As the school that educated Chelsea Clinton, Al Gore III and the Nixon girls, it understands the unique personal and security needs of prominent children. It provides a first-rate education on two well-equipped campuses. Nearly four in 10 students are children of color. But the choice makes sense at a philosophical level as well, because of how Quakers view the challenge of shaping children into socially responsible and spiritually aware adults.

We will never get tired of the Obamas, yeah, we are a little drunk on the First Family. Pic of the Sidwell Friends school below.

Sold @ 4 of 10 children of color at a school that charges almost $29,000 for 2nd grade. Another example that Yes We Can…We Already Were…You Didn’t Know?

    @KIA:

    lol.;->

    29k a year?! Ouch.

There’s a handful of schools in LA-mostly in the BH/Bel Air/Hancock Park areas that jack you for that kinda’ loot for tuition.Smattering of Blacks…Significant number of Asians…The rest Jewish.

  • princess07

For security reasons, this shouldn’t have been mentioned in the media. Too many crazy folks out there.

  • XP

Princess07, People would have found out where regardless.

  • Bubothehater

Well, we know they would never pick a public school. That i sfor other peoples’ kids.

  • sepia830

I can hear little Sasha out on the playground now..”You take that back or I’ll have the secret service guy kick your butt!” :)

  • Christmas Jones

I PRAY THEY DON’T TURN OUT UPPITY…BUT WITH BLACK MAMA STRENGTH LIKE MICHELLE’S ITS HARD TO IMAGINE THAT! LOVE YOU MICHELLE :)

  • James Arrington

In some interview they “claimed” they were considering public schools. Bull, those elitist would never put their kids in a publc elementary – high school. And of course they wouldn’t want to help anyone in the lower class have an option at sending their kids to a private school either.

  • http://aol Shaqwandalinah

Hahaha !dO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO ! WTF

  • OneLove

i think this is a great choice! as far as those who think you have to be an ‘elitist’ to want to send your child to a good school, i call b*llsh*t! ANYONE can put in the effort to make their local public school a (much) better school or arrange their family’s financial priorities (incl. scholarship opportunities/grants) to allow their kids to attend private school (incl. parochial schools).

it’s all about what YOU are prepared to do for your and yours, boo.

Agreed! The Obama’s comes from the same cloth as the rest those Jack n’ Jill black bourgeoisie sect.

They may have come from humble beginnings but they’ve definitely adjusted and embraced the lifestyles and perks of the rich.

Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss.

  • Karen

    Gimme a break!

Do as I say, not as I do….

I’m sure the Obamas wish more Blacks would DO AS THEY DID.

    They….

Valued education and made sure they got a good one..

..Worked hard instead of sitting around waiting on the government to improve their lives…

…MARRIED and ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES before having children

…Made/make sure their children are well educated.

Ah yes…PLEASE, Black people, DO AS THEY DO!!!

  • Karen

    Hey, JAMES ARRINGTON,

How/Why would they “help someone in the lower class have an option of sending their children to a private school” when they had their own darned children to worry about educating???

Here’s an idea: Why don’t we all worry about and take care of the ones we decide to bring onto this Earth? Novel idea, isn’t it?

By the way, the lower class DID/DOES have the same option. They just made/make different choices.

My child goes to a private school. And it’s because I cared enough to be involved in his education and make the sacrifice–ya know, like Obama’s single mother did.

I didn’t wait for Obama to come into office and throw personally invite me to become more interested in my child’s education.

  • Trudi

I admire Jimmy Carter for sending Amy to a public school. He sent a powerful message, and that decision showed a lot of faith and integrity. I can understand the Obamas’ decision, too. Quakers are very progressive, and they stand by their beliefs in everyday life. Sidwell Friends is a great choice.

  • Anna

Public, Private, Charter or to Home School. It’s a parents choice. I had a kid in a private school and it only confussed her and the beliefs she was taught for the first 5 years of her life. Catholic Schooling does provide a great education but to have mass everyday vs being a member of a black holy church caused problems spiritually. Being a parent we know each kid is different. My kids ended up going to public schools. 2/3 survived. I wish I would have chosen a different school for one of my kids. Public Schools are not what they use to be. My kids attended the same schools as their dad and I did. Our saying is “if it was good enough for us it’s good enough for you”. Times have changed. It’s not good enough anymore.

  • WordtotheWise

What parent wouldn’t want to send their kids to the best school. The Obamas can afford it and don’t have to prove anything to anyone. Maybe if some people would not buy the designer bags, sneakers, and sacrificed, they, too, could send their children to private school. Don’t be jealous of those that can. The problem is too many people don’t put enough importance on education. If I were the Obamas, there is no way I would send my children to private good. Good for them!

    looks like an asylum

  • MrsLaadee

I don’t care what was said in a previous interview. I live in the DC/MD area and there is no way in hell I would send my child to a DC or MD Public school. Those public school systems don’t have the type of security to protect those girls and it would be foolish for their parents to even consider sending them to a DC/MD/or VA public school. Sidwell Friends is a good school but I would have preferred Georgetown Day School. I wanted them to try a new school since Chelsea Clinton had already went to Sidwell Friends.

  • Janelle

I live in the DC/MD area, DC public schools are no place for those girls. Private school is the best way to go and Sidwell Freinds is an excellent choice, it is a very good school.

    @ Wordtothwise

    SO TRUE!!!!!

My husband and I send our son to private school and we had to rearrange our finances to do so. My girlfriend is always talking smack about how she can’t afford it and we’re silly for wasting our money like that. But she drives a new Benz and I drive a 2002 hyundi. She buys new Gucci bags and LV bags every other month( w/ shoes to match), I save up and buy 1 fly bag a year. But than she complains when the teachers didn’t teach her 6 yr old how to read, but my 4yr old can read his lil butt off…and I’m silly. I just makes me sad to see her spend money buying her daughter Juicy shirts and lacoste clothes but as cute as she is she can’t read and has no dreams of the future. But the look hella fly in that Benz truck……….

  • Bohwe

Our ancestors died so that black kids could have the chance to go to elite schools, and the only thing black folks could do is hate. Sad. People who are hating need to realize that because Obamas are the first black family in the WH, there is a security concern the likes we would never understand. Forget public schools, the kids need to be protected.

And public schools would work if the voters would pay for higher property taxes and demand better education for their children. Black folks can complain about R.Kelly or MJJ, or a rapper going to jail , even OJ, but won’t dare get out of bed and march and make a fuss about the lack of education their kids receive on a daily basis. Then have the audacity to complain when the gov’t build more prisons.

  • WordtotheWise

@Poolside, that is so sad and tragic to me. She talks smack to you for your sacrifice for your child’s education when her child/children are lagging behind, yet they aren’t as important as that new Benz or designer clothes. If her son can’t read, does SHE take the time out of her shopping schedule to read to and with him? I feel for you. It must be horrible to watch. You and your husband sound like a stand up parents that truly care about their children. Good for you!!!

  • maamz

thatt sklll LOOOK skittt cnt u gett a better pic loooool :D

  • sepia830

Who wouldn’t send their kids to a swank private school that didn’t have the money to do so? Let’s face it, public schools in the US are sorely lacking in just about every way.

  • D

Who would dare call the Obamas ‘elitist’ for providing their children with the best education available?

They weren’t born rich. They worked to earn what they have. STOP HATIN’ and do the same thing with your life!!!!

  • 1TruDiva w/The PlatinumVocals thinks the dog whisperer is hot!!!!

Come on, people! We’re talking about the daughters of the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

It doesn’t even sound right–sending their children to public school!

They SHOULD go to private school just for security reasons alone.

And why would the Obamas even consider public school?? I don’t think they know the plight of our public school system.

I’m wondering who the other children are and what type of professions are their parents?

    Probably generations of old money.

  • 1TruDiva w/The PlatinumVocals thinks the dog whisperer is hot!!!!

Conversation with Obama and dignataries from other nations–

King Jaffe Jofar–”Well, my 4-year old has just mastered his third language–French!. He’s starting Brown next semester!”

King Tut–”That nice, Jaffe but my 7 year old is beginning her studies at Oxford in the fall!”

Martin Luther King–”Oh that’s fine and dandy fellas but my 11 year old just received her Doctorate!”

Obama–”Well my girls will be attending P.S. 4 as soon as we’re settled in at the White house!”

    **crickets**

  • http://trinidadsdagay.blogspot.com Trinidad, Adventist. Gay?!

Nothing is wrong with private schools, the problem is that Obama opposes vouchers to give you a chance at something similar.

  • GubbaGal

I respect the Obama family.. but I have one complaint – Mrs. Obama shouldn’t be sitting there like that with a dress on. Atleast she could’ve crossed her legs at the ankles.

    I’m just saying…..

    President Obama 2008 and 2012!!

I just have to add my two cents, being a teacher in an impoverished area of our city, who was once a single parent who received government assistance for years.
We had better WAKE UP! The time is NOW to stop the excuses, stop the crab basket mentality, change our priorities, be willing to sacrifice, and take 100% responsibility for ourselves, including the offspring we bring into the world.

Each morning I see little preschoolers walking into my classroom with expensive designer named sneakers and clothing, yet they live in government housing, where the parents are on welfare and receive a monthly check and food stamps. Most of the time the money is from the mother selling her body or her man is a drug kingpin in the area. The children arrive dirty, tired, and clueless. Sadly, what is taught in the classroom is not of interest at home, so the children grow up thinking education is not important.

Families in this situation are offered the opportunity to attend school -to study for a GED, tech school, or college- and they’d rather stay at home, get high, watch TV, and eventually get pregnant, thereby increasing financial benefits and assuring a roof in which to live. Did I say dental and medical services are provided so there is not a problem receiving birth control when needed. Please hear me when I say every federally assisted family is not like this but many are….I know!

We have got to reach out and help lift as we continue to climb. I know it sounds terrible but as Bill Cosby says…”Come on people”. We have got to stop the negative references directed to those who want better and work hard to achieve it…STOP HATIN’ and get up off our behinds and get busy!!! Get a mentor or be one but DO SOMETHING! WE are losing…us. We’ve got to rearrange our priorities, BUDGET, SAVE, stop trying to dress like these RICH celebs when we KNOW we cannot afford to do such! There’s nothing wrong with comfort and the finer things in life but please….if you have to ask, the simple fact is most likely, you can’t afford it (yet) and that’s OK!!!! In time, if we place our emphasis on education and hard work NOW and be willing to patiently sacrifice and compromise a few things for awhile, we can achieve and live a better lifestyle.
