John Forte Gets a Pardon From George W.

Posted by Bossip Staff

John Forte is getting out of the big house thanks to President Bush:

President George W. Bush has pardoned rapper John Forte, an affiliate of the Fugees, who has been serving prison time for smuggling drugs, sources told AllHipHop.com. Forte was one of 14 persons that Bush has pardoned or granted commuted prison sentences. This wave of White House pardons is Bush’s latest, as he has less than two months in his presidency. A pardon cannot be overruled.

Forte was arrested at Newark International Airport in 2000 and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to distribute. Police caught him accepting a briefcase with about $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine in it.

Forte was hit with a 14-year sentence in a federal penitentiary under minimum sentencing laws even though it was his first offense and he was a non-violent offender. He began his bid in jail in 2001 and has fought the laws vehemently.

Through the ordeal, he maintained his innocence and turned down a plea deal.

We have to congratulate John for getting out of the big house. So, are we to assume that the millions of black men who are behind bars for getting caught with less than $1.4 million dollars worth of street drugs will be pardoned as well?

    oh

  2. CC

John Forte was very good friends with singer Carly Simon’s son. Carly Simon tried herself to get him out in the beginning.

John Forte was NOT pardoned!!! His sentence was commuted, that’s all

  12. The Real Jackson Brothers

Not that I would begrudge this brother an early release or pardon, but aren’t there plenty of brothers incarcerated that deserved a pardon just as much or more than him? Does Bush plan to pardon more brothers who’s sentence has been considered “harsh and unjust.” as was John Forte’s? Did Bush select him for a pardon based on his notoriety and therefore designed to salvage some of his legacy? Again, John’s release is a blessing but what about the other innocent or unfairly sentenced brothers in AmeriKKKan prisons?

  13. Doagae

I forgot all about this guy…..

  14. Pynk (KICK ROCKS WITH THE KICKS YOU ROCK)

    wow

Ahhhhhh *****!! John Forte is out. That youngin’ can spit. He dropped some legendary verses on The Fugees’ The Score…..

    We used to jump rope,

    But now we gun hope

Bustin’ shots off of project roof tops

Sending signals with the blunt smoke.

Ock, don’t talk a lot if you can’t hold it in lock

If you think lips sink ships,

    Imagine full glock clips.

I hold a gl***** of Remy Martin

    Gettin’ milks by the carton

Extortin’ the light weights for thinkin’ they important

I hear it in your rap and

My family is thick so that bull***** could never happen.

Hopefully him and clef can combine to make an album. There’s no hope for Lauren.

  16. circa-81

Oh….and this was another one. He definitely was one of the few that actually was moving weight on the street and transposed it to wax. These words sit on my soul because for those of us that are old enough to have been involved in the *****e game in nineties on the east coast from d.c. to new york this ***** illustrated what we were about realisticly.

    When pandemonium strikes, at midnight

Full moon splits soft *****s and a lunatic

    On some absurd *****

You talk back, hustlin’ crack don’t make you bigger

*****s who take your measurements quick, don’t make you quicker.

    Stick and slide with vigor

    City streets hot like liquor

Gun play is regular front page is the bonus

Life will keep existing while I’m *****tin’ on the opponents

  17. Maybeline

Must be running drugs for some very important people to be getting a pardon by George Bush

  18. circa-81

Oh yeahhh.. for those that sayin’ he’s innocent. Naahh..this dude wasn’t innocent. He got caught with several keys of raw uncooked weight on him. At first they were talkin’ about deporting his ***** back to Trinidad but they decided to lock his ***** up. Hopefully he grew like the rest of us and won’t go back to that trafficing ***** again, and he’ll just go back to making albums. But I know if money get’s tight; youngin’ probably going to be bringing in that weight in again. But for those that don’t know his work don’t get him confused as a gangster rapper. He’s concious and on the same tier as Common, Talib, and Black Thought. Hopefully this ***** comin’ back to the rap game….we need him. I wonder if they are going to deport him though upon his release?

  19. Soul Touch

…I use to have the biggest crush on this man…

  20. circa-81

    @ Maybeline

I know right. This ***** was like a concious/knowledge rapping type. And he let out his first album that was kind of weird….and then it came out in the media that this dude got caught up with like 100 keys of cocaine.

  21. The Grundle

    @ circa081

They can’t deport him as he is an American citizen (he was born in Brooklyn.) I agree with you, dude was nice, but I doubt anyone will be rushing to sign him or put him on.

*****, Wyclef can’t even keep his home in Miami

  22. circa-81

    @ The Grundle

I thought that he was born in Trinidad…I thought were trying to deport him when he got caught.

  23. Oshie - Hay Kanye! I see you! Waddup!

    Me and my crew

    And a little tour show

    Learned to flip the dough

    With the money we’ve got

In Ninety Nine, more war, more crime

    I’m a fan!

  24. it's me dammit!!!

Yes!!! I was just googling him about two months ago and I saw that he had got locked up, I had no idea, dude was nice on the mike, I had bought his single “the message” Somethings out there, he was good, and it would be great if him and Wyclef could do an CD, I agree with Circa 81, 100%

  25. Oshie - Hay Kanye! I see you! Waddup!

    Ooh! Liquid cocaine!

    *drooling like Homer Simpson*

    LOL

  26. circa-81

    @ It’s Me Dammit

Yeah…those verses that I quoted from him were like the only verses I ever remember with him actually talking about that street ***** (which is a good thing). The rest of his stuff was like Common or Talib Kweli-ish. I guess the real dudes want to distance themselves as far from the ‘game’ as possible. Not pointing fingers and any imposters (rick ross.)

  27. Smartie

Congratulate him, but John didn’t do it alone. He’s had Carly Simon and her son Ben advocating for him ever since he was sentenced. Wyclef, where were YOU?

  28. BeanTown

    Free Forte !!!!! YES

They did him wrong, there are people on the streets, dirty people in these streets that need to be put behind bars, not Forte.

  29. Mrs. Rance

Cool I guess, but dude had a whole bunch of *****e so I don’t think the sentence was excessive. I know people who have served less time than him for a lot less product.

  30. BeanTown

If and when he gets out I wonder if Lauryn, Pras, and Clef will be there.

  31. Somer

Forte knows people in high places. I am not surprised at all.

  32. Joe Smoe

@ Somer…thats the bottom line…don’t sleep on who he knows…he was a prep school kid with big friends in his corner.

  33. Grrrrr

    Secksaay

  34. LaLa

I remember him and his story…he is friends with Ben Taylor….James Taylor and Carly Simon’s son..they were on 20/20 a few years ago..trying to help him get an appeal…he’s pretty talented…I hope he takes his second chance and make the most out of it…..!!!

  35. Ms. T.

    More champaign Mr. Forte?

  36. snowpea

    Bout time!

John better be more careful in the future, keep his circle small. I want more music!!

    Privileged douche.

  41. Creole Baby Justa Snare & a 808

    huh?

  42. Ka

This guy is insanely intelligent. I was very disappointed to hear he was involved with drugs, but after reading his blog from jail, I truly believe he won’t make the same mistakes twice. A rap deal upon release? Maybe. A book deal? Definitely. He won’t need a ghost writer either.
