Shame on Greyhound!

A Thurston County couple is suing Greyhound and a partner, Rimrock, for noncompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act after a hellish bus ride from Olympia to Detroit in which they claim that, among other things, one of the plaintiffs was forced to attempt to “pee in a cup.”

Mike Williams is confined to a wheelchair after having had a stroke. He and his wife, Shirley Williams, are seeking damages in excess of $75,000 after Williams was allegedly mistreated on the bus. The lawsuit claims that Greyhound failed to provide wheelchair-accessible vehicles for Williams and buses with operating wheelchair lifts. Greyhound also allegedly failed to allow Williams off the bus at stops, and drivers allegedly yelled at Williams to the point of his becoming humiliated and afraid.

Other passengers were allegedly forced to carry Williams on and off the bus, and at other times he was forced to sit in a non-handicap seat. At one point, the suit claims that Williams fell over because a driver failed to properly secure his chair. The couple was forced to find a different means of transportation back to Olympia from Detroit.

In addition to the damages, the suit also requests that Greyhound and Rimrock be banned from transporting other disabled customers. The suit claims that Williams alerted Greyhound before the trip that he was disabled.

Wow. We can’t believe they wouldn’t let this man off the bus at rest stops. That’s pretty ridiculous. We hope he wins every dime he’s suing for….
