Sasha Fierce #1 on Billboard Charts and Bey Does the Today Show

Bey’s Album topped the charts today selling almost a half a million records:
Beyonce scores her third straight No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 this week as the double-disc “I Am … Sasha Fierce” (Music World/Columbia) shifts a whopping 482,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The album, split between material credited to Beyonce and her new alter-ego Sasha Fierce, has already spawned the hits “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Beyonce’s 2003 solo debut, “Dangerously in Love,” started with 317,000, while 2006’s “B-Day” moved 541,000.
Hi, Haters. It looks like Bey’s album is well on it’s way to platinum status here in the U.S. What now?
On top of that, Beyonce was on the Today show making her star shine that much brighter. Perhaps the performance left a little to be desired, but she still did her thing out there.

IN canada,the sell of one double cd count for two albums. So when you purchase Beyonce double disc, in fact you are purchasing two albums. And with Soundcan it add up as if two albums were sold, when really you only paid for one copie of the double disc…So this means Beyonce has not sold 482,000 copies of her cd. She actually sold half of that amount. 241 000 copies sold would be considered as a flop for any other artist. I beleive the whole double disc thing is just a gimmick to increase the sale numbers so Beyonce could get another platinum album. After all she is Beyonce, the baddest bitch in the game, right!?? just to clear up some confusion:
a double CD counts as one copy when purchased. when it’s time to certify the album, that’s when the RIAA counts a double CD as 2 copies. in other words, she did sell 482K, but when she hits the 500K mark next week, the RIAA will certify her album Platinum (1 million sold) because it’s a double CD. so basically she put out a double CD so that she can be certified platinum without having to actually sell 1 million copies.

Alicia and Beyonce are the same age 27. But I agree with LA Chic, Alicia grows in between albums. She lets the public miss her..and I don’t think anyone would really debate that years from now 10, 20, 30 years from now Alicia Keys songs will still be relevant, and that’s what makes her an icon in the making.
Beyonce makes some good songs, but her albums are not as solid..especially this one. She just needs to focus on making great music because I refuse to believe that out of the 70+ songs Beyonce made for this album, that the one’s she released were the best she had. Forget alter egos and make great music Bey. My personal pick will always be Alicia..her songs are timeless and her songwriting skills are incomparable to just about any other female artist out right now. no one has forgoten about that album, but it wasn’t a full LP. it was a live album with 2 new songs and a remake. and even tho it sold 192k the first week, it was still her 3rd straight #1 and it still went on to sell 1.5mill in the US and 3 mill worldwide.

once again, not entirely true. Beyonce had to pimp herself out for multiple endorsement deals to get that number. which is why so many people today are screaming oversaturation. Thats not Alicia’s style. she makes all her money on touring and publishing. she owns her own mastered and gets paid more on album sales than most other artists. for the first time this year she has signed ONE major endorsement with Vitamin Water. that one deal alone was worth $50 mill
the fans were going to buy the album regardless. imo the album is just…ok..no real stand out hits, just the same ole same ole…
Beyonce and Alicia, both pales in comparison to Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift. These three talents exudes not only real talent but career longevity. Beyonce and Alicia Keys will both, be footnotes within the next 3 to 5 years. Nuff said!
