Now we all know Miz.Jackson cannot act. She messed up the last Tyler Perry movie especially with the screaming scene. I’m not quite sure what happened to her – I loved her in Good Time and Different Strokes. And what about Tasha Smith – I think she should be on the list as well. Jill Scott was good ini this movie too.

As for Apollonia – she’s hispanic – so she wouldn’t appear on this “black actress list” and Vanity would.

Wow, that is a lengthy list! I like many of the names you listed.

I saw Rachelle Ferrell in person years ago in NYC at The Blue Note, and she was phenomenal — just phenomenal.

I saw a concert a few years ago with Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Floetry (when they were still together). It was one of the best live shows I’ve been to — I thought Jill had the strongest voice, but Erykah’s performance was truly memorable as well.

I haven’t really delved into contemporary classical (other than listening to newer composers on NPR), but I have Beethoven and Mozart, along with some other music. It’s soothing to the soul.

Zoe Saldana is Latina… Really shouldn’t be on this list, unless we are including latina actresses under the title “Black actresses”.

Mike…many Latinas ARE black. Zoe Saldana is still a black woman. She is Dominican in terms of culture, yes, but she is still racially black. Doesn’t she look black to you? Because she does to me.

People tend to forget that many “Latinos/Hispanics” come in all colors and many of them have African blood in their veins, including the ones who deny it and despise anything associated with black features.
