It is great that Obama will be prez. But, we don’t need him
(rappers or fictious show) “to look up to.” Each individual’s determination and hard work should be the sole source of inspiration. More importantly, each Black parent should be their kids’ inspiration. It is so sad that we (Blacks) need self validation from someone else. I hate to hear grown men tell their sons that Obama should be their role model. In other words, that man is failing as a parent …so he needs Obama to inspire his kid.

People we don’t need role models! Just do the RiGHT THING! Obama didn’t have anyone one (especially Black males) to “look up to.” He just did the right things -worked hard, marry well and strive to be a good dad. These are things we all can do. We didn’t need the GREAT OBAMA to come along part the red sea and show us the way to the promise land.

Of course people need role models.

Thought you might find this interesting, excerpt of an interview with Judge Joe Brown I came across while reading the Jamaica Gleaner. I can’t believe the arrogance and pettiness of this man!
Here it is:

So many people of all ages with whom I have spoken since Barack Obama won the election, have said they did not expect a black man to win the White House in their lifetime. Do you share this view?

No, I thought it probably would happen. I don’t know the young man, so I can’t say much about him.

But even if you can’t speak about him personally, what do you say about the fact that a black man is going to run the most powerful country in the world?

He is half African, half American; he does not qualify as the typical African American. He has no black-American ancestors; he’s a mulatto who spent a lot of his years living in another country. So, I don’t know anything about him, he does not match any of my background and he does not have any relatives who have anything in common with mine, so I don’t know him and I don’t know what to expect.

For all the haters who thought he was an Uncle Tom, he lets our own black magazine get the first officially interview.

He has always supported us, he had to do what he had to do to get into office and now he is really going to show us love.

Of course Barack didn’t have the same life as an african American man. When most black men make money leave the community, he actually got an Ivy league education and went to improve the lives of inner city black people. Now, how is it that a man that lived his life in the white world, lived in Indonesia, actually sought out the black community. As a child he read books about Malcom and other black people, sought out the black culture, he identified himself as a black man. He married a black woman and when he became financially secured, him and his wife stayed on the Westside of Chicago, because as they put it,they wanted black kids to see an important black man living next door to them.
So, all that Brown is saying is pure Haterism. Obama is more of a black man than the majority of black men who leave the community, seeking a better life.

Jealousy is something else. Why don’t Brown worry about his acting career and his talk show.

So sad, black folks tearing down another black man.

He is stating the truth.Obama is a first generation african, born of a white mother.
He has descendants that are white and are Kenyan and has visited Kenya in the past(even though he had a dead beat dad)and ther lies the difference.He does not have descendants that are slaves which shows the difference.Even Michelles demeanor is different to Obamas.The swagger and confidence comes from knowing who you are and where you come from i.e. your culture

His background is not different than African Americans. Just because his ancestors didn’t come over here on slave ships, does not mean that they were free living in Africa. Remember, Ethiopia was the only African nation that didn’t surcome to the oppressor.

It’s amazing that some black folks want Obama to be a homegrown racism complaining, living in the hood, whoa is me, We shall over come, had to fight the racist system to get ahead, black man, to be labled a real black man. That is so messed up. I find it hilarious that if Judge Brown is so eager to define Obama by race, yet he was the same “American negro” who once had an African woman from the Ebu tribe as a defendant, and he ethusiatically told her how his grandfather or great grandfather was apart of that tribe, and spoke to her in the language. Now, should we take away his black American card?, no. We have a black president and black folks hating because Obama is half jewish. Jewish people have negro blood, what now?
