It seems really unfair to me, because as a man of Islam myself, I definitely want to make sure that I’m doing my part in being able to re-establish the integrity and the beauty as far as the Arab culture is concerned. It’s contradictory of us to have this impression of a culture that’s not only done so much for this culture, well this country rather. You know the United States don’t really have no culture. We take a little bit from everyone…

The one thing that the Arab culture has always exemplified for thousands of years is the significant value of spirituality; all the way down to the spirituality of financial and economic stability. At the end of the day, they grow, groom and condition their children to understand those values. They implement it successfully in their household. In my family, I kind of introduced the breaking of the working class citizen cycle, as far as the 9 to 5. …..I’m only biggin’ up the culture. I’m telling people we need to be like that. If I was disrespecting it in any way, it would be so contradictory for me to say we need to be like something that I’m disrespecting.

While (more) of us should teach our children certain morals and financial principles, we don’t have to mirror the Arab culture to do so. That’s an *****umption: that we don’t know how to behave or act. Stop painting us all with the same brush. Furthermore, Busta markets himself as a black hip-hop dude, cussin and talking about cars, ice, bi—- and hoes…not as an upstanding man of Arab decent. So he might wanna STFU on this subject and follow his own advice.

I mean the always felt the legacy of the american culture is a bit nonexistent but..for him to out in that term of mirroring the Arabic culture is taking it a tad bit too far. I was a practicing muslim at a time because of my son’s father and i believe in one teaching in one house andI agree with many of their beliefs but I have to stay true to my own so I no longer practice but it is not wrong to take some of their teachings and incorporate them into your way of life. There is mainly one separation between the religions and that who we believe in (i.e. Jesus).

Islam DOES not sanction honor killings…where did you get that from? The radicals you see on TV blowing people up…they’re not doing it because God told them to do so. There is nowhere in the Quran that says that killing is allowed…that’s one of the 10 commandments…thou shall not take another mans life. These radicals twist the religion around to make it fit their goals and purposes.
You have generalized and entire religion and culture and claimed they are all the same. If you do not already know that the word “Islam” means peace, and what the basic principles of Islam are, then do some googling.

I don’t think that it’s ever a good suggestion to tell anyone to “be more like” any other person, race or culture. You do what’s good for you. And if you do find change, you do it for yourself and on your own without someone else urging you on. Although it’s true that Americans as a whole lack a definitive set of cultures and values, it hasn’t reduced the number of people dying to be a part of this country. It’s hard to take the world of celebrities and enforce their ideals into our own lives…Just like fashion, whatever they premoted is often “so yesterday” by the same time that next year. And if you’re gonna take anyone’s ideals and place them in your life, I think we’d be better off taking it from someone who makes it their lifes work to spread culture and enlightenment, no a “where the hell have you been” celebrity whose life style seems to conflict with the religious conversion that he is promoting.

Islam is not about being subservient. I was taught as a muslim (not Nation of Islam, but just as a muslim) that when a Muslim woman is getting married, she can draw up her own contract of what she’ll agree to doing. That means she can decide whether she’d like to cook, clean, or be a housewife. Either way, if her proposed fiancee does not agree, she does not have to marry him.
Also, in the Quran it specifically says that a woman does NOT have to marry a man she does not like, and that it is wrong on her behalf to marry someone she is not interested in.
The muslim woman does NOT have to cover her face…she must be modest in her clothing, wear loose clothing, and can only show her hands, face, and feet.
HOWEVER, there is a problem. In Islam, it does say that the woman must be obediant to her husband. In fact I believe the Bible says so.
But these Arab mean take “obedient” to a whole other level.
As a Muslim woman, I HAVE NEVER seen or witnessed my father, or any of my family treat their woman the way the media is protraying Islam. That’s not what we’re about.

Well I did not even know he was Muslim – did this just happen? Spirituality should be in all facets of your life including your career. So why not make your music more socially conscience ALL THE TIME!
America was built on differences of cultures and that is why it is called the melting pot. The reason people came and still come to America because you have the liberty of practicing religion (among other liberties) some other countries do not.
We do need to be more aware of social and financial stability but those values can and should be taught at home, the Muslim religion is not the only one that practices this. It is in the Bible too it is just that people choose to do what they want even when they know what is right.

Well I dont necessarily think that Black American needs to mimic the Arab culture in every aspect, but I think he is right about their spirituallity and values. The majority of black youth/people and Americans period have no sense of why they are here on this earth, they are not in tune with their soul, their consciousness is warped which equals their actual reality…Materialism and the physical world is a primary concern..Spiritual enlightenment and knowledge should always come first then soon enough then everything else will fall into place..
I’ve actually been to Saudi Arabia and UAE and I can tell you that women were in no way equals. Their culture= Men control women. Hell, they can’t even drive in Saudi Arabia.

Sorry Busta I have a culture I know my roots and many immigrant friends of mine are the same way. It is sad but the ones that don’t know their roots are Black Americans because my African friends all know what tribes they are from, their religions and their cultures food, stories and dance.

Because if you are I fail to see how you can say such or exclude them. A muslim is one who submits his will to Allah (God). If that is what they’re doing, wouldn’t that make them muslims?
Many/most Arabs dont think highly of black people. They can be as racist as redneck white folks. Arabs have been slave holders just as much as Europeans. And one of the world’s biggest genocides EVER is taking place in Sudan right now, where Arab muslims have killed close to a million black people already, and counting. people still call Black people “ABID” – which means slave in Arabic – Note: the meaning can be argued all day and usually is, but whether you like it or not, they say this and mean it as BLACK SLAVE, and have no shame when saying it to your face…..but how would you know that? As an Arab American Woman I have a few things to say. The first is that I am glad that Arab’s are finally being talked about in the US. We are not a large population here and constantly have to pick between black, white or asian on census forms to cl*****ify ourselves when we’re really none of those. That being said, I haven’t heard his song so I’m not sure if its offensive or not. Is the hook in actual Arabic or someone pretending to speak Arabic? I hope its Arabic.
Also, please do not confuse Muslim and Arab. Muslim is a religion and while many (probably 80% of the Middle East) Arabs are muslim, all are not. My parents are from Baghdad and we’re Catholic, born and raised…even the family over there is Catholic.
Also, not all muslim woman have to wear Burkas. It depends on how deep in their religion they are. Some of them, especially in Dubai and Jordan do not wear anything other then a head scarf and a very thin one at that. The rest of what they wear are “American” is style (jeans, heels, etc.).
Finally, the radical muslims portrayed on TV are murderers and they are NOT accepted by Islam and are not following the word of the Quran.
And P.S. My Arab family in Detroit loves black people in general, they enjoy the music and the culture and mos def the hairstyles because Arab women do be jockin your hairstyles I cant lie (but that should be a compliment)!

Just as their are many denominations (Catholics, Protestants, etc…)of Christianity that have interpreted the bible to suit there agenda and follow what they believe, depending on which denomination you belong to, there are different denominations(Shi’a, Sunni,etc…) and sub divisions of those denominations of the Islamic religion that have interpreted the Qur’an to suit their agenda.
Judging from the comments I’ve read “your all right” and just a matter of *****igning which beliefs to which denomination/faction.
So as with most things involving culture/religion/society, it’s not as cut and dry as to state that “ALL OF ISLAM” follows “one system” of beliefs.

In terms of slavery, dont cry too much about it. Saudi Arabia was one of the last countries to outlaw it, but they did it at the same time as Ethiopia. Modern Saudi Arabia was established in the early 1920s. It took them roughly 40 or 50 years to abolish it. Historically during times of plague, dogs and cats were usually targetted because there was a belief that they were the ones that were spreading the diease. Similarly in Europe during the plague, these idiot Europeans killed the dogs and the cats not knowing the it was the dogs and the cats who were the natural predators of the rats who were actually responsible for the plauges.

I went to Catholic Schools all my life. In high school, I went to St.Alphonsus High School on Warren/ Schafer Ave in Dearborn, Michigan 48126. The school is no longer there, but I had all types of friends there, and quite a few were Arabic, Lebanese, Caldean, mostly they spoke Farsi as their native tongue. I did take the opportunity to learn some words from them and some of their customs outside of our school. I was and have always been very interested in foreign cultures. I don’t like the idea of people intentionally trying to tear people down based on lineage or “ghost stories”..they are just like every one else, in that they want to be respected, they really are true to their own cultures, although accepting of others that are not like them. My friends owned stores- retail, grocery and gas stations. They were friendly and some of the sweetest people I have ever met. I don’t discriminate against people that have never done anything to me…Stop trying to use everything to divide and start finding a way to make it better….

I was close to being disowned, but thanks to the bond I have with my father, my family is really trying to get past it. Some relatives feel disgusted, and some relatives don’t mind. It varies, but not all Muslim families are like that.

Actually this is happening in other parts of the world that are not majority Christian. Because the US is a Christian nation, there is no persecution. In parts of Russia, Jehovah’s Witnesses are being arrested. In parts of the Middle East, anyone who is not a follower of Islam can be arrested. The Buddhists were arrested and beaten during protests in China earlier this year. Many governments flat out ban all religion, just to get to the ones they don’t like. Let’s not forget the President of Iran and his famous “wipe the Jews off the face of the earth” statement. All religions are being persecuted, true, some more than others but we don’t see it as much here because it doesn’t happen on US soil.

@ Blaq – to be sadly realistic most Arabs – Christian or Muslim – are not partial to Black/ Black Africans. And for once Kigali was right, even the North Africans are not as inviting, but they hide it better. Most North Africans that marry in with Blacks have an agenda – and the Blacks they will marry don’t usually have the same poverty they do. In my lifetime I have only known one Arab to marry Black, and they divorced. He had an agenda as well but his family felt it wasn’t worth the upset in the end. And yes, the families word and reputation means everything.
I can understand Muslims being this shallow and sad, but not Christians of any race.
I like to believe there are many mixed Arab/Black couples out there that go unnoticed, and that they are enjoying their lives, but it’s doubtful.

Well I havent had extensive travel through the Middle East but I have been to North Africa. According to you, that doesnt really count. Likewise my non Arab husband has travelled extensively throughout the Middle East and having lived in Europe, I have come in contact with a great number of Arabs and North Africans. I’ve seen my wealthy African friends rent expensive apartments in London to vacationing Saudis and seen their Ethiopian servents sleep on the floors. I’ve known black Muslims who are now living in Saudi Arabia and some who tried to but got *****ed over by employers.
I dont have any illusions about the Arab Middle East. However I understand as generations p*****, attitudes will eventually change with globalization and the exportation of Western cultural influneces and expression. It was great fun to hear Morroccans freestyle and beat boxers while I was there. What wasnt fun was having some Nigerian Igbo ***** brag about how her grandfather owned slaves. In this, black Africans like to distinguish themselves from black Americans. They sold us remember, for gold and textiles probably.

I personnally know a lot of muslims and they are really friendly! I know some black muslims from Senegal, Mali, Ivory coast etc…and I know some from Morrocco, Egypt, and algeria.

Yes, In north africa, they used to sell slaves but once again, it was just a lucrative business and they jumped on it! The problem in my opinion is that you can still find slaves in Mauritania and the marriage between the light skin and dark skin is nearly impossible or is gonna create a big fuss!
Secondly, they are a lot of african tradtions that were compatible with the islam but that were not compatible with the chrisianism. For example, the forced marriage or arranged mariage. This used to be a tradition not only in Africa but even in Europe. The point was to make sure that rich stay together. Society has always been organized in cast traditionnally! In senegal for exampe, you have the warriors, the griots (singers), the jewelers etc… but christiansm was harcher and really different. It forces us to think totally different! Same thing for polygamy. Traditionnally, polygamy was an established system but christiaism say its a sin!
I think people confused islam as a religion and islam as the political and ecnomic view. Unfortunely, unlike in christian countries (supposedy not religious but we are stll celebrating christian events like chritmas etc…), politics and economics and religion are all embedded in one and this is when you have some problems. Politics decide that their own interpretation of the KURAN is the TRUTH. Look at the talibans. But if you go to Marrocco for example, you can see girls with swimsuit on the beach! SOME Africans were Muslim. SOME Africans were also Christian before Muhammad was born. Some of us retained our original religion, some took on new ones, yet some mixed and matched according to their tastes. That original religion is African Traditional Religion, while the gods vary the beliefs are pretty much homogeneous. That is the “religion which was theirs” if anything.
There are many ways of forcing a people to accept something, and the Muslims used several in Africa.. yes including violence.
The most of taken slaves were probably traditionalists, but then that’s just my guess construed from long forgotten history cl*****es.
All that being said, I don’t see how that’s important in an INDIVIDUAL deciding for him/herself what religion to follow (or not) …unless of course the methodology of choosing is based on what “feels right”.
