This truly sickens me 2 my stomach. I mean I'm an adult and I don't watch a lot of MTV or BET but I do know that they try 2 do their part 2 discuss AIDS prevention. They have real life stories of people living with [and sometimes suffering from] A.I.D.S.

I know I see commercials on T.V discussing the fact that more than half of people with AIDS don't even know they have it. I'm not saying that more can't be done 2 the mssg out there but at the end of the day it seems like u can lead a horse 2 water but u can't make it drink. U can't force our black people 2 have self esteem and 2 use protection and stay away from cheap, unprotected sex which goes on FAR too often in our communities. I've said it be4 and I'll say it again. We are INDEED ... our OWN worst enemy.

This is sad. The percentages for every part of america are extrememly high. I read an article in Essence/Ebony stating that high rates of african americans having hiv/aids was in texas and florida. For something that has genetically developed out of nowhere and to be consider at one point in time the Gay disease and then the White man disease. For it now to be the BLACK DISEASE after 20+ years of trying to educate people so that hiv/aids won't spread anymore. It saddens me that we as human beings are so stupid. For the stats to be fall on black people as being the main carriers of hiv/aids makes me wonder how truthful that is. The idea that people of african descent are having unprotected sex with so many people not just here but in AFRICA...no where else in the world is this considered an epidemic among Black people or is it? We're never told the overall statics of hiv/aids unless referring to blacks in american and africa. To blame this on hiphop music...when you talk math majority of hiphop isn't bought by blacks...still i do think that hip hop/ r&B is very influential and over sexed. The lyrics are definitely over sexed, the images are over sexed. I do think that artists should take responsibility for their lyrics and actions when it comes to sex. When you're rapping about sex or singing about sex it's not just a hot song because your fans are looking up to you. When your rapping or singing about what you can do sexually or how many people want your body and to do various sexual acts to you. Someone is listening and someone is acting out your lyrics. You can't capitalize on things that are destruction and get away with it there's a thing called karma. For the record White people, hispanic people also have sex and some of which is unprotected yet their stats combined doesn't equal to those that are black. The scariest thing of all is that if you have kids or little ones in your family...what would they have to look forward to. There are people in their 20's living with hiv/aids that were affected since birth. That's scary just imgaine the dialogue a parent/adut has to have with a child that's 6 ten years from now. Nothing seems to be getting better. It also seems very convenient for goverments everywhere to not has this be it's main focus when the very essence of our existance which is reproducation is depending on finding a cure and a way for this not spread besides condoms and telling folk don't have sex.

To JUSTMOI ...i don't know if you're from dc but it's not just dc sweety. Check the stats they're high among blacks in every state. Even in states where the population of blacks are low.****

With black males I am not sure WHAT is going on...it is like EVERYWHERE you look in DC 8 out of 10 black men are FLAMING gay. 9 out of 10 black males are "down low" aka "being freaky" aka what Michael Baisden considers himself "being sexually open" aka BISEXUAL!! Mike if you suck dicks and take dicks up your ass your GAY son simple as that!! No Hedonism freak island trip will change that boo!

Shoot the numbers have certainly changed..it is not that black men are out numbered by black women...it is that SINGLE ,SAVED, STRAIGHT, SANE, STABLE, STRONG BLACK MEN are RARE to come by at all now & days. They are becoming extinct SWIFTLY.

AND LADIES
When folks say that black women need to start looking at other options that does NOT mean go out and find yourself some bull butchy dyke to ride on. If I see one more sista with some SHEman...there are OPTIONS out there the world is FULL of MANY races and cultures of MEN...you do not have to resort to playing "pretend" with some confused woman.

@ Somer--"The #1 problem in the black community is uncommitted relationships. That is the core to all of our problems. We don’t marry. We have hook up for a few months and move on. As I look around my large office in Atl, all I see are single black women of all ages. Most had children as teenagers when they were sprung on some thug nicca. Fast forward 10yrs, their stock has dropped with good men of all races. That is when the desperation start. These women start keeping company with men who are not fit to walk a dog."

How come people don't spend this much energy trying to get ahead and accomplish something, in their lives? We do need to use safe sex but the attitudes that people carry about sex, how casual it is, are asking for it...And looking clean should not be a deterrant. You should still get tested. Ladies, if he doesn't want to wrap up, no glove, no love........

Lot of crazy comments on here.. Some people are making sense, some aren't making any sense at all. All I can say is that you need to wrap it up, even if you're in an exclusive relationship. I've heard of married couples using condoms, so I figure if they can do it, we should be able to also..

As far as the whole "Down Low" thing, and chicks in DC and all that.. I think it's all bull$hit. Yes, DC has a high infection rate, but that doesn't mean that you can't go somewhere else and get infected. Also, I think that the "down low" thing has turned into a "it's not our fault, it's them" kind of thing.. While I'm sure that it has helped contribute to the infection rate in black women, I'm also sure that promiscuity, and sexual irresponsibility on the part of the woman AND man, has a lot to do with it as well. One of our biggest problems in the Black community is that we do not like hearing the truth, or the whole truth. We've got that bad.. A lot of women in our community have multiple partners, who have multiple partners, who have multiple partners, and so on..

Hopefully I didn't ruffle any feathers on here with my comments, wasn't trying to be ignorant or disparaging at all. The truth is the truth, and facing the truth is the only way we're gonna get our arms around this.. We've beat the hell out of the "Down Low phenomenon".. It's time to address ALL of the factors contributing to this epidemic in our community.

I'm well aware of the EPIDEMIC that killing our people along with everyone else. I used to believe that as long as you wear protection that you would be safe. I still think about that because even though you are in a committed relationship, you don't know what your mate is doing....We (hubby & I) were tested at the beginning of our dating relationship and now at all physicals and check-ups...

I think the main problem is how casually people have sex. Yes, sex is a wonderful thing, BUT to be shared with the right person. I look at all these young folks, whose life is not yet begun, and it disappoints me that they are already into sex. There's so much other stuff out here to learn, and get into. I had so many extracurricular activities and during summers, we were always on vacation at some kids club or with other family.

Young adults need to focus more on getting something accomplished in their lives, instead of worrying about what everyone has in their pants and being impressed because their body parts work....Grow up and get real. Not everyone goes 'sport sexing'. Out trolling for it. How about abstaining until you are at least grown enough, to understand what consquences there are, that go along with unprotected sex. I just think nowadays everything is TOO FAST. They have all this extra stuff that encourages them to look for instant gratification, instead of choosing a sure and steady path. Follow your dreams, have a purpose and be of service to those around you. My 2 boys are only tots right now. However, conversations about sex will be a in depth continuing conversation that we talk about and review. I want an open realtionship with them, so we can talk about anything and everything...Sex is supposed to be in marriage and not just with anyone. Premarital sex has been promoted like it's ok and really it's not...I appreciate everyone's input.

@Kigali- Leave me the hell alone. I don't know what your main issue is and am not going to waste my time trying to figure it out. In regards to your wack comment about imitating Arabs, I usually visit all the threads that I think pertain to me...Just because I accept other cultures, doesn't make me any less informed or educated about the issues/ diseases plaguing our people...Grow up and keep it 100%...
