The King of R&B will show the Jena 6 some love and perform during a Jena 6 Empowerment Concert later this month. Other artists such as Nick Cannon, Lloyd, Baby Boy, Sean P, Twista, Tank, Jagged Edge, Killer Mike and Hurricane Chris are also expected to perform.

No word on whether the King of R&B will actually show up.

^ OMG thank you for speaking the truth!!!!!

I’m surprised R kelly isnt scheduled… (ultimate embarrasment)

Lanski, this isn’t embar*****ing to me, but where’s the money generated from this concert going?

Seems like our next step should be as concrete/meaningful as our last step, in order to underscore our point.

*****ody’s perfect, but to be a part of a nation/culture that continously doles out harsh punishment based on our race is unjust!

We have never been compensated for what our race has been through, only shallow legislative measure were given, and here we are still fighting for basic equality.

  9. LANSKI

First, we’re never going to get reparations; it’s just not a realistic. America gave African Americans the big “***** you; you should be happy we didn’t deport your *****es”. Then people are surprised when civil rights are still an issue in 2007.

Secondly, what is a concert going to do really? The march already raised enough money to bail that kid out of jail but the judge denied his bail. So the family doesn’t really need any more cake.

Finally, if you were truly a part of this nation, would you be treated so unjustly?

. . .and yes, a crack head performing at a civil rights awareness concert is *****ing embarr*****ing no matter which way you slice it.

Why is our only response to injustice a riot, a march, or a concert?

    The *****s embarr*****ing.

    lanski is hilarious.

Actually all 6 will be tried and they do need money for the attorneys. Unfortunately no attorney has stepped up to take this case pro bono, I just know if Johnny Cohran were alive he would have. I think this is a good idea, it will raise money for their legal fees, which obviously the parents don’t have.

  13. ^^^^^^^^^^

No one has stepped up to do their case pro bono?!?!?! Didn’t none of those marchers have any kind or legal connects?

  16. I love bobby!lol

The bail was $90,000, David Bowie gave $10,000; there’s a reported $150,000 from other donations floating around; I’m sure there is more from the shirts, buttons, and bumper stickers. They have to be sitting on at least 350. How much more money do they need?

David Bowie didn’t have to sing and dance to give his 10 thousand. Tell Bobby and them to give 10 at the door and have some dignity for once in *****in life.

Johnnie Cochran is gone but he had a law firm and a legacy; where the hell are they?

  20. leave bobby brown alone, he aint bothering *****ody.

  21. crest

i have alot of the artists who are speaking out and showing up to support the Jena 6. alot of the black artists are afraid they may lose money or white fans if they stand up for these young men

  22. Buttafly

Black people, we need to look at the bigger picture. Racism is still in existence and if crackhead Bobby can come out and show some support, more of us need too. Stop being ignorant and ignoring what’s real. I’m from Louisiana and people don’t understand the struggle, no matter what your rank is you will still be categorized as being black before your qualifications or skills are recognized. I am now in Texas in a suburb called Plano and it is even worse. There are a lot of rich white people who still think that blacks are beneath them. Wake up and let’s take a stand. If our ancestors hadn’t done it for us then we would still be in slavery and not considered as american citizens.

I think the concert in and of itself is asinine, but I also have to say that at least Bobby stepped up since the major complaint of African American celebrities (if you can call him that) is that they stick their heads in the sand when important issues crop up. Regarding Lanski, like I said I don’t like the concert idea, but saying they have enough money is quite premature. It is fairly obvious for many reasons but in addition that the judge’s denial of bail indicates that the fight is not fixed on favor of these kids. Mychal Bell is the first of the six to be tried. I spent some time working in New Orleans and what many may not know is that in general the judiciary of Lousiana feels that detaining a child is harmful to the child, so by demonstrating a willingness to keep this child in jail after the original matter was overturned because he was wrongfully tried as an adult the judge is making an important statement about his disposition.

Legal defense in criminal trials is cost prohibitive and the best attorneys can come with price tags of $450 per hour or more. If I were done with law school, I’d definitely volunteer my time, but truthfully they need the best and most experienced and in the absence of the case being taken pro-bono the best will cost a lot. Now if you count the bills just to go to trial and then you factor in the highly likely event of the need for an appeal, you can easily eat away the money raised considering that bills will be generated separately for each trial (six bills at whatever the cost). I still don’t think the concert is a good idea, but no one should be discouraged in their thinking that the money raised is enough, the major concern should just be that the money is being managed properly. We all have a role to play in this and if we are able to contribute financially we should.

sooooo…RATHER than scheduling another march in Jena, supporting writing rallies, or calling congressmen to demand an answer about Bell’s treatment in (antebellum) Jena, we find some of the lamest, most uninfluential (if that’s a word) “artists” to shuck and jive across the stage while driving attention towards the fair treatment of the Jena 6.

I appreciate the efforts, but I’m sorry…I’m not sold.

  28. Queenie

I thought is was quite funny that Mr. domestic violence, Imma kick ya @ss would be on the roster. I don’t think he’s the best person for the job, but hey. He does know about the court situation, and second, third, fourth, hell who knows how many chances.

  29. dana

    where do i start?

1- bobby brown anit the king of anything!

2- when i read the title i thought the “good” he would have done was to SIT HIS ***** DOWN! lol

3- who in the hell wants to see his tired ***** perform?

4- why invite a deadbeat, craked out artist to such a serious event? (like he’s really gonna show up sober… yeah right!)
