What is with these kids murking their parents just because they won’t let them get away with bullisht?
A 21-year-old North Carolina man shot and stabbed his stepfather to death and stabbed his mother in a savage attack outside his girlfriend’s house, authorities said.
Matthew Safrit, 21, of Cramerton, is due in court on Monday to face murder and assault charges for Friday’s gruesome slaying, which his mom said started after a fight over a borrowed car.
Jennifer Cloninger told WSOC television that Safrit borrowed his grandmother’s car on Friday to visit his girlfriend in Shelby, west of Charlotte, on Friday afternoon.
Cloninger, 40, and her husband, Nathan Cloninger, 41, went to Safrit’s girlfriend’s mobile home to pick up the car and found Safrit drunk and angry that they were taking the car back, she said.
Nathan and Safrit got in a shouting match after the younger man threw the keys at his mother and slammed the door in her face, Jennifer Cloninger told the station.
“Nathan came up and came to the door and banged on the door and said, ‘Matt your stuff is going out of the house tonight,'” she said.
As they were getting back into the car, Safrit came “charging” out of the house with a gun and shot his stepfather several times, she said.
“He held the gun over the door and just, ‘Pow! Pow! Pow!'” she said.
Safrit then went back in the trailer, came out with a knife and began stabbing Nathan in the chest and the stomach, his mother said.
Jennifer said she jumped on her son to hold him back and he stabbed her in the arm and pistol whipped her.
“I have a knot behind my ear, my ear was cut open. I have a stab wound here, it went straight down my arm,” she told the station, her black eye and stitched ear visible during the interview.
“And he hit me with the gun, he hit me twice with the gun.”
Safrit fled into the woods surrounding the house.
He was arrested a short time later after a Cleveland County Sheriff’s dog tracked him down, authorities said.
Nathan Cloninger was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Safrit was charged with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and gun possession, as well as other charges related to allegedly punching the police dog that found him.
Cloninger said she was grieving for both her husband and her son, and that the young man was “better off” behind bars.
“He’s still my son, but … I wish he’d shot me,” she said.
She and Nathan had met in high school, but only started dating two years ago.
They were married for seven months.
“I’ll never be able to see him again. We waited 23 years to be together. And now, I’ll have to deal with never being able to see him again,” she told WSOC-TV.
So sad. Our prayers are with that family. Except the son. His azz can fry as far as we’re concerned.
