Yep, I gotta try to clarify a few things here.
Firstly, I just want to apologize for how random my thoughts were in my last blog. I wrote what I did just minutes after a long heated discussion on the topic. I can hardly read the thing, it’s so damn random!
I think it is HORRIBLE that people misunderstood my message. Just because I wanted to stop separating races, doesn’t mean I want to STOP TEACHING HISTORY! Or schools need to teach MORE of ALL of it anyway! I was asking that we not name things to separate ourselves. I never claimed we shouldn’t learn our own history, or that of all the other countries on earth (which we as Americans are pretty bad at). I am very aware of all the amazing things hat black people have done for our country, and we should always be aware of it. However, separating our races sounds like racism to me. It just does. So go ahead, claim I am the one who is ignorant for wanting us all to be EQUAL! Can you believe that? How does that make a fucking lick of sense? Honor your heritage, I know I do. Just make sure that by doing so, you do not seperate yourself from the rest of us! Black History to me would be everything that happened in AFRICA. I lived there for almost 5 months. Visted Robin Island, and saw the cell they held Nelson Mandela in. I witnesses first hand people calling these taxi vans “Black Taxis” and these nice taxi’s “white taxis”. Just vile.THAT is African(black if you will) history. African AMERICAN history is OUR history!
Yes, there was a time when racism ran rapid. It still does in some places. However, it is time for us to rise above it and BECOME ONE, instead of SOME. I wrote my last blog in such hurry and a fury because I felt what I was typing so deeply. I am appalled that anyone would claim I am just some stupid white bitch that doesn’t know shit about anything. I did NOT grow up rich. I did NOT hang out with rich people. Watch the show “Roseanne” and you tell ME if that family seemed well off. That is just about where I came from. My family is blue collar all the way! Just because I worked hard to get where I am it means I don’t know how hard it is to LIVE LIFE? I was addicted to drugs, raped, abused, beaten, etc. I DO NOT DWELL ON IT! I choose to rise above it! I have been beaten up for being “the white girl” a few times, so don’t tell me I don’t know how it feels to be discriminated against.
My message about trying to rise above segregation, separation, and racism has been twisted. Some people are saying I am RACIST for wanting all races to embrace each other! You’re a fucking dumbass if that is what you think! Again, let me make this clear, I DO NOT SUPPORT THE SEPERATION OF RACE IN THIS COUNTRY, ANY RACE. I DO NOT SUPPORT CHANELS OR FUNDS THAT SEPARATE RACE, HENCE ADDING TO RACISM! I never claimed to STOP teaching history that involves black people, I asked to STOP BEING RACIST BY SEPERATING GROUPS BY RACE! Truly educate yourselves on the true definition of segregation.
I enjoy sharing my thoughts here. Some people like it, and some people don’t. I come from an incredibly political family. (I am a Democrat). I enjoy a heated debate. I didn’t mean to “single out” only the black months/funds/channels. It was more of an example of how NO RACE should attempt to separate itself in such a way that ADDS to the problem with racism. Stop singling people out, and maybe…just maybe, the future will be full of people that were NEVER raised thinking people are so different because of their skin.
I wrote about what I did because I care. It makes me physically ill knowing that there are people that are still so closed minded out there that they hate someone because of their skin. My hope is that one day we will all wonder how anyone could have done that. I think that we need to teach MORE history in our schools. Of course, even more world history. I also think we should be more aware of what is happing in other countries. Of everywhere I have been on Earth, America shows the least news on what’s happing outside our “world”.
This felt good. I feel like I have got my point across better this time. I need to learn to relax on my impulse and calm down before I share. ; ) My Boo always tells me that. Thanks for listening.

Her initial post was obviously emotional. but i understand where she is coming from. people just looking for a reason to attack her. If I said the same thing being latin…would folks call me racist or whatever? NO. Folks always look for a reason to bash on white folks even when they really arent ill meaning. Seems like black people are the only ones allowed to say things even evil hurtful things about other people or other races and they are just viewed as “proud”. everyone else is considered racist, especially white people. So while her words could have been written better nothing she said is all that wrong.

I think people have taken her words way out context. She’s simply reiterating Martin, and ultimately what Malcolm believed. We should try to become ONE. Nothing at all wrong with that. Do I have a problem with BET? At times yes. I think BET has exploited black people to the nth degree. Contributing to the degradation of women (Uncut). But I think there’s a place for it. Just as I think there’s a place for Telemundo, Univision, and any other station that caters to a specific group of people. Why not? What’s wrong with have a network with people that look like you (doing positive things)? As I said before, our truth in somewhere in the middle. Way to go Adrianne…I admire your honesty and value your opinion.

I think she was being real. Many people would not have said what she said. Leave her alone and let her speak. We need more people at least trying to speak on our struggle.

The problem is that she doesn’t understand why we need a Black History Month. If she really understood what Blacks have gone thru, then she would understand why there is a Black History Month in the first place.
So doesn’t get it, she thinks she gets it, but she doesn’t. Lots of White people are that way, thinking they really understand what’s going on, but they don’t understand anything.
Her getting raped and abused and being able to get over it is great. But at the end of the day, she still gets better treament because she has White previlage, and that’s what she doesn’t understand.

I live in SF, a pretty liberal city and I *still* experience racism on a daily basis. That ***** still exists no matter where you live. How dare she tell us “not to dwell” on slavery when that only happened a few generations ago and still affects our communities today. So she’s clealry more ignorant than racist. I actually believe she means well but is cognitively impaired. We’re not all the same so we can’t all act the same – that’s just silly. The key is realizing we’re all different because we’re the products of different life experiences.
And living in “Africa” for 5 months and dating a black kid in highschool doesn’t make your opinion matter. The fact that she’s trying to use these experiences as some sort of personal justification is ridiculous.

What’s she saying, basically, is that she wishes racism and segregation didn’t exist. She wishes we didn’t distinguish ourselves by the color of our skin.
That’s where I agree with her. Unfortunately, we don’t live in that kinda world. The color of my skin will always do me the favors it would never do for someone who was darker…and that doesn’t just happen in this country – it’s all over the place. The United States isn’t the only place where darker-skinned people are treated like crap. It boils my water, man.
What can we do, though? Kids are being brought up to discriminate against less attractive people, overweight people, people of less intelligence, and people of different cultures. I wish that cycle would be put to a rest already.

Hmmm, if what she says is true, that black history month is racist, then that would mean that every presidential holiday is racist, and that Santa claus is racist, and that thanksgiving is racist, because pilgrims were white as well…She sounds like every other whitey that will NEVER be able to understand that they are born into white privelage. Regardless of how deeply she may have put her foot down her throat, at least she had the courage to speak up, especially in light of the negative reception that awaited her – and in spite of it all, she still managed to touch upon some very valid points. We are a proud people who have been victimized on many fronts, but our own self-victimization is what I find the most heartbreaking. For once – be a perpetrator of the positive and not victim of the negative because like me, most people are getting sick of the excuses. There are those of higher understanding… and then those who lack it.

You know what would be nice? If schools taught all cultures’ history instead of teaching white american history 95% of the time and dedicating february and september to two other cultures while leaving out everyone else.

Well, I guess I must be stupid too, because I agree with her. First thing I want to say is that most people see what they are looking for. The foundation of what the woman is saying is that we should all look at each other as equal, as human beings. Isn’t that what we as African Americans want? Unbelievable. Sometimes it seems like we defeat the whole damned purpose. On one end, we whine because we feel like the “white” person “holding us down/keeping us back”, then one steps up – in favor – and we still got a problem. Sheesh. So frustrating sometimes.

I know many who believe what you believe and I know many who believe what I believe. That’s how people SHOULD get along.
I think religion as a whole has caused so much hatred among people that it’s gotten to a point where I don’t even want to be a part of it anymore. I’ll believe in God and I’ll have my faith, but religion itself has been tainted by a few judgmental, cruel people.
And I know that the base of religion was originally created to bring people together…but I think it’s only ripped people apart. It was a good idea gone wrong, in my opinion.

As a white woman I will never know a black woman’s experience. What we can share is the basic human experience as well as being women. Different culture. Latinos are NOT a race, they’re an ethnicity and culture because we’re so mixed. There are Black Latinos, White Latinos, Asian Latinos, and a mixture. African Americans are a culture – black people are a race.

I went to the march in Jena, LA on the 20th. On the way there, we p*****ed several houses with confederate flags hanging outside. I was also told first-hand by a couple of 19 year olds that they still get called “Boy” and the N word everyday. Another said he got 5 years probation for fighting a white kid. I am not saying that the Jena 6 should get off scotch-free but the punishment should fit the crime. I hate how all the white people are trying to make it seem like they beat the white kid “to a pulp.” Beaten to a pulp means that he would have been in the hospital recovering for possibly months and requiring at the least mechanical ventilation. The white boy was aight… he went to a party later that evening and even he got arrested later for another crime. Imagine being referred to as a “n!gger” everyday, how frustrating is that? I’m sorry but as little as I am, someone would get it too… It’s 2007 and we still gotta get permission to sit under a “white” tree. It’s 2007 and when we, the black students protest and get under the tree, we are told by the attorney general, that he could make our lives disappear with the stroke of his pen. Oh but we just need to forget and move on. February is one month out the year that some teachers are actually forced to teach a little black history. There is a lot more to black history than Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks though. We have contributed so much more to society but it aint written in the textbooks so its not taught in schools.

Yes, slavery sucked *****! But I came from the Caribbean slave colonies.. My grandfather died at 85 and he told us stories of how they suffered after slavery because of racism. He also told us of his family’s stories of women being beaten just because, women being raped because it was OK, men being beaten and not being able to do anything about it.
I know as a white person it doesn’t make sense. I don’t expect you to understand.
But if there is no black History month, my grandfather’s stories would be lost. No one will ever know who Elijah McCoy was or Frederick Douglas!
No one would remember Walter White and how he p*****ed so he could report to the NAACP about Lynchings. No one would remember the people that were thrown overboard because they did not comply, they were being thought a lesson or they just committed suicide.

However, all the other examples you gave are quite different from being black, seeing as being black doesn’t mean you speak a different language or come from a different country (or even have a different culture than the “American” culture). One of the problems with Adrianne’s idea of being colorblind is that it is inherently racist. Only white people truly have the privilege of not having to worry about race in this world, simply because white is looked upon as being normal, upright, safe..When people say they are “colorblind”, what they are really saying is that they get to dismiss the color, culture, struggles, suffering, opinions of people of other races under the guise of “equality for all”. That’s a cop out, because they would rather force *ignorance for all* than carry the burden of knowledge of what this white male dominated society has done to generations of others(“others” being racial minorities).
Unfortunately people like Adrianne will still have to see me as the full person I am, and that includes my blackness as well. It’s not something that disappears because it’s too hard to look at, to hard to digest. How arrogant to suggest that minorities, especially black people, get over being black! Blackness comes with good and bad, so perhaps there is some crossroads we could meet at, but don’t ask for more than that.

What AC needs to do is direct her comments to the White community and the Republican party. They put our community in a position where we have to create channels and celebrations specifically directed to Blacks. These were Europe, Asia and Libya. Israel came to be pretty recently in 1948 after being granted independence by a League of Nations mandate. Present day Israel borders southwest Egypt.

I can honestly understand your perspective about your heritage. However,if you are a male and black and if you are ever in NYC I’d like for you to try any one of the following–
1. Hail a cab in Midtown Manhattan in the evening hours. Note how many will p***** you before one actually STOPS!
2. Watch how women will clutch their purse, briefcase or, personal effects closer to them as you approach and p*****.
3. Notice how (this is the best one) your change from a purchase is sometimes “placed” on the counter instead of in your hand!
4. If you should visit a department store, take notice of how you’re given “preferred treatment and attention” by the cutsomer service *****ociate(s).
5. In this day and age where check writing has become all but obsolete, if you STILL write them–turn one of your cancelled checks over and examine it v-e-r-y careful. I’m almost positive there is a “code” which someone has written if you are a BM or BF. This is normally done when presenting the check for purchases.
My point is–to some, no matter how well spoken you are, your education, your income potential and or level, at the end of the day YOU ARE BLACK! We are not separated by social status or being–we are almost ALWAYS grouped. And when we are–the outcome or opinion is usually not positive!

We were marching for our rights less than 50 years ago. Less than 50 years ago you couldn’t even drink from the same water fountain as a white person. In the Ideal World her thoughts are on point all of us as one.
But the reality is a different matter.
Reality 1.
I would like for us to focus more on getting our children ready for this next generation of bilingual rather tri-lingual m*****es from all over the world.
As we know we are dealing with a Global Economy and Our children (black-african american) are not ready to compete.
Reality 2.
our economic dollar are being thrown away on the expensive waste land of marketing.
Keep your $$$$ and start wisely purchasing PLEASE.
Reality 3.
Faith values are nonexistent. We need our home values returned.
Reality 4.
Political backing. We need Senators, Mayors Local Officials…etc….
These are some of the things that our real focus needs to go on.

Personally, I think Adriane Curry is an idealistic, true things would be great if we could all live together in harmony and race or cl***** was not a factor, but unfortunately it is! Realistically why is it that we are called African-American????? There is not a Chinese-American or Latino-American, so once again we are being seperated, African-American is not being politically correct! This post has brought out so many negative stereotypes of the black race, and its sad that we are constantly being called lazy, moral-less, criminals,hoes and uneducated,worthless people. When I know that is so not the case,we as a people need to start doing some more positive things TOGETHER AS A RACE! The Jena 6 march was a step in the right direction, I myself was disgruntled by how my brothers and sisters were treated in the fellow southern state of Louisiana (I’m from Mississippi)during Katrina, we should have done a March on Washington for the mistreatment of the black and poor cl***** during that tragedy,and for the term of “refugees” instead of them just simply being called Americans. These instances show that America still has a long way to go when it comes to treating people “equal”, Adriane’s initial comments were what alot of white people feel about us, true she was going from one random thought to another but that is the general perception, I just hate that she used her somewhat celebrity to belittle “US”. She had an advantage that the average Joe doesn’t because she is somewhat a celebrity(F Listed. It’s not a matter of what she is trying to say it’s a matter of where she is directing her comments. She wants talk about black people having their own channel & month but what do they teach in school the whole year (besides from that one short month) white history while our children are left to feel inferior and have to learn and be taught about themselves outside of the spectrum of the American education curriculum. Singling out black people who were stolen from their land then had their land stolen, stripped of their language, their names, their families, their heritage? To add insult to injury they were then rapped, beaten and pitted against each other to break down the internal structure. What some people tend to forget is Africa is a CONTINENT NOT A COUNTRY (which has 54 countries) and in it there are different historical facts so 5 months does not make you an expert on the plight black people around the world face everyday. In America everyone except descendants of slaves can surf the internet and pull up customs, beliefs, cuisine, etc of their native “Country” b/c they know where their family generated from. So excuse me if yes I’m a offended when comments come out her mouth about how we should get over slavery a vital part of “Our History” and she want to make believe in her fantasy world like racism doesn’t still exist when you have white officers shooting young black men, white kids are handling nooses from trees, and a black boy goes to jail for getting a BJ from a white girl, black quarterback label as “athletic” rather than “intelligent” like their white counterparts for accomplishing the same goals. We have to endure being demeaned in politics to media down to our personal lives everyday. What irritates me the most is her resolution to the problem starts with disvaluing the make shift solution that has been put in place as a result of an on going issue.

You know to a small extent I understand what she’s trying to say but again when you are NOT a minority you have NO IDEA what it feel like to be in the white American society because you are WHITE then you will never ever understand. Yes I agree with Morgan Freedman but what he said was I will not resign the accomplishments of my ancestors and my people to just one month…..It’s black history EVERY month and it is American History not just black history – Agreed! But the reason why the month was created was because our history was written out American history books….When I was in school when you studied American aka watered down history…you learned about slavery, civil rights and MLK….That’s it! Nothing else and we are so much more those few events in history. Where more before that and after…but little black children do know that because they aren’t taught that…but of course when you can trace your history back to great great grandparents in Ireland how can you possible understand the frustration of only knowing your ancestry is far back in most cases as you grandparents because your ancestry was erased! I think that she is still speaking from a place of ignorance…..injustice and inequality has not been about slavery. Slavery was a period and that is self explanatory unto its self….What we as minorities can’t get over is the radiating effects of that time and what it has done to us. Yes we have come a long way….we sit anywhere go anywhere be anything but that didn’t come because whites woke up and decided hey, we are really treating black people badly let’s just stop….NO we had to fight for equality and now that we have it we have to fight to maintain it…..BET BETJ TVONE are stations that yes cater to black audiences…just the BBC caters to Europeans, Telenovo caters to Hispanics, and so on and so forth….why?? Because when you turn to NBC ABC CBS you can count on one hand how many minority shows you see….the major networks in this country do not cater to the type of mixed population America has…period….everything on these channels is white and white driven! UPN is prob. the only non cable network where you see a mixture of faces that aren’t always white…..so give me break….I would LOVE to “get over” racism but the problem is that America is NOT over racism look at the boardrooms of most major companies?! I work for major company and I can tell for certain I haven’t one black face yet in a VP EVP CEO CFO position and know what you won’t because the quota is met at middle management….So before she takes a few general instances in her and applies to the m*****es maybe she should do better homework and next time maybe someone better understand her point.

Funny how blacks should get over slavery but the holocuast wasn’t even on American soil but we have a museum right in DC. The African AMerican Slavery museum is going to be built in VA so no one will visit it. And we still do not have enough money for the MLK memorial. White America does not want to see the present and future effects of the slavery era. i don’t understand how they are going to tolerate illegal immigrants or immigrants for that matter if they are too dumb to be able to admit to slavery and make amends for it.
