Michael Vick Will Face More Charges

Embattled football star Michael Vick, who pleaded guilty to federal charges last month, faces more legal trouble after the prosecutor in the rural Virginia county where his dogfighting took place said he will seek to indict the former Atlanta Falcon quarterback, authorities said yesterday.
“Most of the matters that I’m presenting have already been admitted in sworn statements authored by the defendants in the federal proceedings,” said Surry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald Poindexter.
Vick pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges Aug. 27 in a Virginia federal court growing out of his involvement in a dogfighting business. Vick, who faces up to five years behind bars, will be sentenced Dec. 10 on the federal charges. Poindexter did not detail the charges in the indictments he plans to pursue, but said his investigation and the federal probe are focused on different crimes.
Michael Vick chose the proper name for his dogfighting business venture “Bad Newz Kennels”, because since this whole thing started it has been a straight downward slope. He might be locked up for a minute. SMH.

You know what, I don’t agree with dogfighting (and the grown-ass men who are participating in it should be shamed…damn invest your money and stop trying to come-up) BUT when is enough just that…enough?
What do they want? Mike to serve life in prison. You know what saddens me the most about this entire situation? The fact that the American people will go into an outrage about an animal being abused, however, if it wasn’t for mostly Black blogs you would have barely heard about the young West VA woman who was tortured.
Why aren’t people in an uproar about that? And what about the people (besides cute white kids) that come up missing everyday…why aren’t people upset over that? Or the three college kids who were executed for nothing…why aren’t people still talking about that case?
Its a damn shame that people in this country care more about animal rights then human beings…fyck Mick Vick and dogfighting the United States has more urgent problems to be addressed. If I offended someone…my apologies but people we have soldiers in Iraq losing their lives for nothing. I just think all the media and justice system are trying to get the American public to focus on Vick’s case to take focus off of the more serious matters going on in this country.

I couldn’t agree with DW more as well as Mz, but lets not get it twisted. We’re here on a forum complaining and what do we do when we step out into the real world? I think the nation as a whole needs to stop looking to justify our actions and step up and be responsible people in our every day lives and dealings with be it a person, animal or whatever. Our future is what we are seeing now and by the read of it, it doesn’t look too bright. Never mind the lack of obviuos education but the lack of morality is what will eventually be this nations downfall. Who are we going to step on to get to the top if there is noone left to step on. Lets pull together people and if the race card is going to be played, use it when it really matters… like defending the inequality of the justice system ie: the JENA 6… and not to justify some ignoarant ghetto mess that heppened to get out the ghetto cuz the N&)*( could run. NFL player Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges. Subjecting animals to any kind of abuse is evil and cowardly. The majority of persons who are judging Michael Vick are nothing more than hypocrites.
Millions of animals are slaughtered in factory farms each year. Not only are they forced to live in deplorable, inhumane conditions, they are drugged, tortured, maimed, slaughtered, boiled and skinned alive while fully conscious. Anyone who eats meat, cheese, eggs or drinks a glass of milk is directly responsible for the premeditated murder, torture and abuse of an innocent animal.
People who eat or use animal products are in effect paying slaughterhouse worker “hitmen” and “hired guns” to abuse and kill animals for them so they can wolf down a hot dog in five minutes. I have asked many self-proclaimed “dog/animal lovers” to view videos on the Web sites of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, all-creatures.org and Humane Farming Association, and the majority refuse because they don’t want to know or get upset. Hypocrites!

Um nahnah, although what you are saying is correct, that doesn’t mean that we as a society issue a get out of jail free card to someone who commits a crime against not only society but to life as we know it. This whole world is full of hypocrites, but that deosn’t mean we turn our back on correcting it either. If anyone can see what they do to these animals and you can sit there and say that its okay to cause pain to another life and hear their cries of pain and enjoy it, then there isn’t enough room in the prison system to hold all of the sick people that are out there, that’s what’s scary. The fact that he is a publiuc figure is being used to sell papers and air time but that doesn’t mean that what he did doesn’t deserve to be punished. I wish we l;ived in a world or a country that you can say everyone is treated equally but look at what we are disputing…there should be no dispute whatsoever. Wrong is wrong no matter which way you try to spin it.

Ok, Vick has been punished, not only will he probably not play in the NFL again but he will spend a couple of years in prison. The point I think most of you are trying to make is that the system is using Vick as an example. I’ve seen people who have murdered HUMANS get off with less time. I don’t condone what Vick did b/c it was wrong and he should be punished however, this prosecuter in VA is just trying to make a name for hisself. Plain and simple.
If we are going to put people in jail for killing dogs, that make duck hunting or turkey hunting or deer hunting-Are those animals any less important! Let’s also put people in jail for drinking and driving while intoxciated with other drugs such as Coke- America has a double standard…period. We try to justify one act by giving punishment but when a crime is much worse like molestation of children or murder, we give them a slap on the wrist.
I can’t believe VA is pressing charges too!!! It seemed unlikely that they would since the feds have the case, but I should have known they would want a piece of the action too. Good grief…

I can understand your feelings as far as the “my family was never harrassed, probably because…” However– I’d like for YOU to try any of the following and get back with me. I’d like to know how things turned out–
1. Hail a cab in Midtown Manhattan in the evening hours. Note how many will pass you before one actually STOPS!
2. Watch how women will clutch their purse, briefcase or, personal effects closer to them as you approach and pass.
3. Notice how (this is the best one) your change from a purchase is sometimes “placed” on the counter instead of in your hand!
4. If you should visit a department store, take notice of how you’re given “preferred treatment and attention” by the cutsomer service associate(s).
5. In this day and age where check writing has become all but obsolete, if you STILL write them–turn one of your cancelled checks over and examine it v-e-r-y careful. I’m almost positive there is a “code” which someone has written if you are a BM or BF. This is normally done when presenting the check for purchases.
My point is–to some, no matter how well spoken you are, your education, your income potential and or level, at the end of the day YOU ARE BLACK! We are not separated by social status or being–we are almost ALWAYS grouped. And when we are–the outcome or opinion is usually not positive!

The only way you can get away with animal cruelty is to get white folks to give it a sporting name and then it will become legal. That’s all I’m saying… They did it to all the animal they like to kill and they put it on TV. As far as Vic goes if he has to do the time for his crime how come Paris, Lindsey, Nicole, and many others don’t have to do the TIME for thiers? as far as animal cruelty i’m completly against it but I’m not about to stop eating meat. Man is a carnivor period. But I don’t approve of the animals being tortured first, its bad for the flavor.
