Bill O’Reilly discussing going to Sylvia’s, a soul food restaurant in Harlem:

I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship.

“It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun,” he said. “And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all...”The band was excellent, but they were dressed in tuxedoes, and this is what white America doesn’t know, particularly people who don’t have a lot of interaction with black Americans,” he said. “They think the culture is dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg.”

…There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, “M-Fer, I want more iced tea.”

  • Socaluva

Oh Hell Nah!!!! This fool is crazy!!!

  • detroit

There’s nothing wrong with twista, luda, and snoop. please note that there are approx. 30 million “M-Fers” just like him in this country alone.

  • http://www.supersoakthathoe.com I Stay SMH

I read that earlier yesterday and I have to say…I never really understood how stupid that man is.

In three decades I have YET to hear anyone say mutha effa I want more tea.

  • Star

When you’re not a part of a group and have no interaction from them you make generalizations and believe stereotypes. Bill Riley is a fool. Unfortunately you have a lot of Bill Riley’s in our society. Many of us work with or for them. And how dare he think Luda and Snoop represents us all!!! Stupid ass.

  • Lili

I am SO happy you guys posted this. I’ve been hearing about it on the cable news outlets.

This is worse than what Adrian Curry said because, well, no one cares about her. Bill O’Reilly has the top rated cable news program– millions listen to him spew his ignorance and prejudice on a daily basis.

What’s said is that he’s so far gone, he doesn’t even know he’s racist. He thinks he’s complimenting us. I’d be interested to hear what Al Sharpton has to say about this

  • Maya

Bill O’Reilly is a turd. Straight up. Everything that comes out of this man’s mouth is borderline racist, but this time he didn’t bother to cover it up as much. He is up there with Imus and Limbaugh. Black people are here to stay, we aren’t going anywhere, so until he realizes THAT, then….

  • BellaH

The problem is that people watch his show. I’m white and I boycotted his ass a long time ago in my home, but until ignorant right wing conservatives stop tuning in and giving him ratings, he’s going to keep spewing that filth. Does he not know how stupid he sounds? “MF I want some TEA?” LMAO …idk how to even begin responding to that…

  • catfish

What can you expect from the Irish! Study your history about the relationship between the irish and blacks. Also read When the Irish Became White.

Why is Al taking him to dinner? WTF! First Al looked the other way when those hispanic illegal aliens killed those black college students.Yet he had time for Roboho. Now he’s wining and dining with O Reilly. I think someone is double dipping. Someone is cutting deals under the table.

  • BellaH

Is Al any better of a role model than Snoop then?

  • http://www.supersoakthathoe.com I Stay SMH

Wonder if they spit in his food? They had to have known he was coming.

I would atleast left a booga in it.

  • BellaH

    LMAO @ I Stay SMH

  • Nish

Why in the world does anyone still pay this racist piece of sh** any attention? “Pass me the mfn iced tea”, who in the hell says that? He is obsessed with the black culture, and talks about it every chance that he gets. Wasn’t there some kind of kinky sex scandal that involved him last year? Let’s talk about that.

  • MRSDEE

OMG… no he didn’t! “M-Fer, I want more iced tea.”

    WTF?!? lol!

  • T

Typical, he was hoping that the restaurant was gonna be ghetto instead he saw that it was an establishment that was well put together. He needs to keep his comments to himself, he doesn’t know what to say, how ignorant!! What? Black people don’t know how to professional, what an A**…

  • MarieDaGuru

I’m speechless. I’ll let yall handle this one.

  • Traydayz

Well I guess he didn’t realize that black people are just as diversified as the rest of the world. How white of you Mr O’Reilly!

  • M. DOT

Just shows how much of a sheltered lifestyle he lives. It’s dangerous for someone like him to have such popular television show because people actually feed into and believe a lot of his conservative and sheltered viewpoints about black people. You would think that someone who claims to be so intelligent, wouldn’t base their opinions on a whole race on what he hears in music (rap) and sees on tv (rap videos). What an idiot.

  • Yes I Said It

So the black people didn’t act like hooligans… and it was a real eye-opener for him? Am I reading this right. This man is in his 50′s and he’s surprised to see black people acting civil amongst each other? Wow.

That’s sad on so many levels.

  • huh?

People who think the culture is dominated by “Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg” are idiots just like you, Mr. Riley.

To be honest, it all makes since to me now. He obviously has never met, worked with, had drinks with, or enjoyed the company of blacks ever before in his life. Ever!

What a maniacal idiot, though he’s hardly the only person who thinks like this.

  • Mo’Ree

I so agree, the fact that he is shocked let’s you know exactly where his expectations are for us. More iced tea MFer? What a douch

  • DROCK

1ST HE’S TRYING OUT BLACK RESTAURANTS, NEXT HE’LL BE TRYING OUT BLACK P_SSY…BE LIKE “OH, IT WAS QUITE GOOD” HAD THE SAME TASTE AND TEXTURE :)

  • camcam781

    @ jenine

    PREACH SISTA!! LOL

  • Licia

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Lincolc said it best, but Bill personifies it better.

  • http://www.birdthecouchpotato.blogspot.com Bird

I don’t think he said anything wrong. Please believe that some white people get their whole view of blacks from music videos whether we like it or not. Of course the reality is that most black people don’t act like rappers. Not even the rappers themselves act the way they brag they are acting.

  • frida

BOYCOTT FOX NEWS & EMAIL FOX TO TELL THEM TO FIRE HIM!!!

  • http://belowdaradar.blogspot.com nik

    So clueless

  • Shell

    Agree, Janine

Bill O’Reilly is just stated what a lot of middle class white people think about blacks. My daughter goes to a predominantly white high school in Atlanta and you should hear what she tells me what white kids hear from their parents. She tells me sometimes she wants to slap them, but I taught her better. They do think we all live out hip hop lives and are on welfare. They think BET is a modern day Minstrel show and would die if their daughters dated a hip hop artist, no matter how rich he is. Quote from my daughter’s white friend “I like Chris Brown, but my dad say it’s wrong to date black boys” Wake up Black America

  • MissOMyGoodnezz

    @ Bird,

I would agree with the first part of your statement (white people get their view of blacks from music videos) if I actually believed that Bill Oreilly really followed hip hop and really watched videos. I’m awfully sure he doesn’t tune into 106th and Park and Crank that Soulja Boy daily so we cant blame hip hop for this one…sorry, hip hop didn’t influence his decision..its just another excuse

  • Nish

For the person who does not think that he said anything wrong, when was the last time you went to a restaurant and someone said “Pass me more mfn iced tea”? I am in my 30s, and I have never heard anything so ridiculous.

  • http://hiimcliff.info cliff

posting about this loser is just bringing unwanted attention to this loser. can we just let the man drown in his own foolishness already???

  • Nish

My children also go to a predominantly white school. I teach my kids to stick up for themselves, just because someone is speaking ignorantly, you don’t have to agree with them. There is a way to set people straight in an intelligent, calm manner. They certainly don’t come home and say “Mommy, guess what so and so said about black people today”. Give me a break!

  • gemini62065

So that explains his position on a great deal of subjects dealing with the african american community….”no interaction with the black americans”. What is more frightening to me is the fact that Fox News gives Bill O’Rielly air time to express derogatory views about a class of people that he knows nothing about. It is ridiculous to assume that every person of color behaves like a rap video. Rap is the not birth of music in the african american community…so why use a small genre of music as a means to label an entire community?

  • Notch

He is such a damn ignorant cracker i swear…

Why on earth would someone scream out “M-Fer i want more ice tea”??

  • Mavis

frida please, that is exactly what people in the media wants, angry, loud black people screaming for somebody’s head again. The best thing to do is to ingnore this fool and all the rest who make insensitive remarks knowing full well that the media will pick it up and spread. They all do it, Sharpton, O’reilyy, Jackson, the list goes on.

  • virgo

It is time we put an end to this dude we need a answer for this dude and his open door policy on racism he seems to think that he gave blacks a compliment but no this is an insult. lets get’em

  • Shell

Nish, that’s your child and learn how to read and comprehend. I teach my child to be very open with me. She doesn’t say this ‘guess what a so, so said about black people said today. She in a talented and gifted student. She says “We were discussing the Michael Vick case, the Jena 6 case and the Obama. The white kids said this and the black kids said that.” She and the other black students speak up from themselves. She even spoke up against a white girl who criticized black kids for wearing black last week in support of Jena 6. She also tells what some of stupid shi** some of her black friends say. She is learning all black people aren’t your friend just because they’re black and all white people are not bad. That’s why I sent her to racially diverse school.

  • Suga&Spice

All I could do was laugh at this nonsense

  • Mena

Overall there is nothing wrong with his comments, however seeing as how he knows that black people do not act a fool often, he will still promote the opposite on his show. He will still say we are murderers and rapists and the like. Heres a tip about white supremacy, we are not inferior to them and they know it. Lets stop using the oppressor language aka referring to yourself as a minority. It statrts there.

  • Sam I AM

i think i’m going to pray for this cat…

  • Kay

So Sad. Now what’s the difference between him and Imus? For those of you who think we are equal and black people are still living in the pass…use this as yet another example of why racism is still very much alive. I’m sure he knows that a lot of very important black and white people including former President Clinton go’s to that restaurant all the time…yet he still expected the worst from there. Boycott him and Fox News!

  • Nish

Shell, I do know how to read and comprehend. Why do some people have to say something mean before they get to the point? Anyway, your second email was well thought out, well written, and made your views more clear. I agree with you 100 percent. Now you have a nice day.

  • Kay

See how fake he is, he was having lunch with Al Sharpton at the time and made these comments after they departed of course he didn’t express any of this to Mr. Sharpton while in his presence. Was this a stunt or just bold in your face I don’t care about your race?

  • CCC

where did bill o’rielly grow up? i read this yesterday and had to read it to my grandmother who just shook her head in disgust…

  • Hope

If the above comments are indicitive of the opinion of racism in America, how can you expect the people who are not comfortable with this type of communication and attitudes to think any differently than Mr. O’Reilly. I do not see how you can blame him for being honest. And, honesty does not need a defense. You speak for yourselves. I do not like to think of myself as racist but frankly I become a little upset when I see and hear so much of this language and the influence it has on our young people, I understood perfectly well what Bill O’Reilly meant when he pointed out that because we see and hear so much of this sub-culture talk and music, if we were to congregate in many places, we would not be able to stereotype the black people the way many of us do. That’s all he meant, now what is so hard to understand about that. Mr. O’Reilly is a straight shooter, someone we need in this politically correct world.

  • Black Velveteen

    Ignorant ass.

  • bee

This guy is an idiot. He just showed his own ignorant upbringing, that’s all. We have always been well mannered people.

Judging from the history of them and how most of them act now it is them who usually does not have proper upbringing. And I am not saying to sound racist just my experience in life in dealing with them.

  • LetMeTellYa

These comments prove at least 3 things. 1. Look at how out of touch many, many white americans are with Black americans. They actually believe all we do is smoke weed, do drive-bys, make babies, wear baggy clothes, welfare, sell drugs, cuss, show out, be loud, any and everything that is bad. 2. It proves that these white people can’t use common sense and realize that most Black people aren’t that way because if we were, we wouldn’t have ANY accomplishments. 3. Finally, it proves that many things we hold onto culturally are potentially condemning us. It’s giving us such a bad image, that someone would actually think we don’t even have enough sense on how to act in a restaurant. LIKE IT OR NOT, WE AS BLACK PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE CONSTANTLY SCRUTINIZED FOR EVERY SINGLE THING WE DO.

  • Shaun

This man gets on my F#&%kin’ Nerves. He is a racist bastard. But this is what I mean about how other people perceive the black race. You mean to tell me that hip-hop is the one and only portrayal of what black people are about. So people like Maya Angelou, Sidney Portier, Don Cheadle, Barack Obama, don’t give them some inclination that black people (just like other races)come in all forms. Then should we say that Paris Hilton(stupid ass) Lindsay Lohan(drunk, drug addict ass) are representation of what all white people are. He is an ignorant ass man.

  • Anonymous3

Bill O’reilly is not as clueless as he would have everyone think….he is well aware that not all Blacks listen to rap music and not all blacks act ignorant just because….the comments that he made are deliberate…they weren’t positive about us…the comment were made to make us inferior….”I couldn’t believe my eyes….some Negros don’t curse, they dress nice and they have even mastered the art of eating with a fork AND a knife…how odd”

  • hotgirl1

    seriously?

  • John

Can you realy beleive this? A white man going into a back resteraunt and being surprised that the people is civilized. This is as racist as it can get!! Bill is playing games people, please beleive it.

  • dan34

This ‘racist’ quote was taken completely out of context, if u actually listened to the actual radio programme you would realise that he was actually denouncing racism by saying the majority of black people are nothing like the negative stereotypes that some white americans still see as the norm. So don’t believe everything you read at first hand, do your homework!

  • black in theory

What’s said is that he’s so far gone, he doesn’t even know he’s racist. He thinks he’s complimenting us. I’d be interested to hear what Al Sharpton has to say about this

I agree, O’reilly’s a nutcase – but is AL SHARPTON the authority on racism or equal opportunity??? what a great idea!!! Get a crazy ass kkk white man with a crazy ass ‘blame whitey’ black man and see what happens… its like a sitcom except for the whole humor part.

  • kelis

“and this is what white America doesn’t know, particularly people who don’t have a lot of interaction with black Americans,” he said. “They think the culture is dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg.””

He is the white America that he is discussing in this statement! He “couldn’t get over” the fact that it was no different… He is crazy.

  • LetMeTellYa

Oh, and another thing. If Bill O’Reilly is soooo upset and concerned with Ludacris, Snoop Dog, Twista and the like, THEN WHY DOESN’T HE CONDEMN THE WHITE PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WHO MAKE MILLIONS OFF OF THESE PEOPLE AND THE WHITE TEENS/YOUNG ADULTS WHO BUY MOST OF IT?

  • http://www.expressivelychic.com aj

uh, thanks for the compliment Bill O’reily.. what would black people do without good folk like you clearing up that whole thing about us being barbarians!- DumbA$$

  • lookwhaticando

What I want to know is what this ignorant redneck expected to see. Black folks eating with their hands, setting on the floor, bootie dancing, a turn table at the front of the joint, with dancer’s swinging on a pole. White people will always be backwards, I don’t even think we should try to school them anymore, let them live in stupidity forever and ever.

  • gemini62065

    Hope….

I have to respectfully disagree. Any sound, mature person would know that it is ridiculous to judge an entire race based on a sub-culture of that particular race. Are caucasian americans in general judged on the the appearance, lyrics and content of rock, punk, grundge or country music? And what about the other genres of music within the african american community that are ignored in order to perpetuate a false belief about our culture in general (some by way were created by african americans …such as jazz, blues, rhythm & blues…and if you really want to go there rock). Why are those genres not equally used to balance the opinions of those who criticize of african americans? You know why? Because it is easy to generalize based on the negative. And furthermore, I find it impossible to believe that a grown man in his late 50s has never been in an environment where african americans had power and influence (or heck…enough money to patron a restaurant in NYC) and not conduct themselves in a mature manner…come on it is 2007 we are not all going to McDonalds 24-7!

One thing I will agree on…he is only stating what the majority of white america will not say!

  • YOU

I agree. I don’t like what he had to say but at least he had to balls to say it. I can’t stand those fake ass white people who smile in your face but really want to hang you.

  • AND…

    sorry

I meant ‘the balls to say it’

  • AND…

I wonder why he didn’t comment on the numerous girls gone wild videos (majority WHITE women) or those professional cock suckers known as adult entertainment actresses.

  • Kay

    @ Larry…

Bill is that you? Please don’t get it twisted it’s because so many people like you ignore injustice that there has been little progress in this country since the civil rights movement. Who said anything about always complaining? It’s a matter of standing up for what you believe in. Frankly I’m sick of everyone blaming rappers for all the wrong in the world, no doubt they need to do better but trust me when I say way before “gangster rap” came about this crap was going on so try again. I really don’t need you to tell me that racism is a fact of life…, as a black woman I very aware of that.

Thank you for telling me how to be a progressive black person by getting an education, job, investing and “living richly”…BUT I THINK I’VE GOT IT COVERED. FYI: I graduated with honors from an outstanding university, have a wonderful and fulfilling career as well as an expanding family business, a wonderfully blessed family and a financial portfolio that we’re quite happy with so you can keep your advice. You hate CNN but don’t mind what Bill had to say? Give me a break!

  • IBW-Ideal Black Woman

Since he’s thinking that all blacks are the stereotypes in music videos, then I guess it’s ok to say that all white men who are 50 years old and work at fox are misogynist pigs who sexually harrass women.

‘If this had been said about any other group but blacks, the media would not have reported on it, they simply would have swept it under the rug.I am sick of the media using us this way.’

That is so true. Blacks are not the only ones committing crimes in this country, were there any blacks involved with the ENRON scandal… NO. The media doesn’t only target Blacks but that’s the bulls eye and they are always aiming for it.

  • deja-i-am

For him to be so well spoken, he is so ignorant. His ability to reach mass audiences is more like a source for evil, Like a weapon that needs to be destroyed. And don’t get me started on FOX, the network that broadcasts his show. What can you do with Bill, except ignore his ignorantly prejudiced self.

  • AND…

Bottom line most people use what they see on the media against the entire black community and although we are doing much better than our ancestors we are still far behind every other race in this country as far as eduation goes. WE NEED TO STARTING FIGHTING WITH OUR MINDS AND NOT OUR FISTS.

  • John

I think its the same as hearing a white say ” I know a lot of good N—-”

  • nahnah

his views on blacks are VERY common in america. it’s just that most people keep quiet. hell, even some black people think that way.

I was a real estate agent in manhattan and focused primarily in Harlem, and the first thing my clients would ask is “is it safe”?. “what type of people live in those building?”.

most of my europeans, however, were extremely excited at the idea of living in harlem. european whites are not as afraid of Harlem as white americans are.

his pale, unattractive ass should have choked on a rib.

  • tscombo

What is everyone so upset about, he talking about the perception he had of black people because of what is put out there, and how it contrast with his real life experiences. Even with the comments being chopped up like they were they still don’t seem that bad. Is it because he was talking about Snoop and Twista?

  • gemini62065

“What is everyone so upset about…”…

Not really upset…let’s just say enlightened. When did BET/MTV (which by the way both owned by the same company Viacom) rap videos become the voice of the black community and a viable source for media representation of the black community? The is like saying the E! is a represents white america as a whole! What about TV One or heck I’ll even go as far to say what about VH1 Soul? What about Tony Brown’s Journal, Tavis Smiley, or Like It Is (which by the air has been on the air exploring various issues concerning our community since 1960)… or shoot even HBO? Say it ain’t so…are we sold into the derogatory hype as well? Could it be that many in our community are really not interested in hearing the positive?

  • nahnah

What is everyone so upset about, he talking about the perception he had of black people because of what is put out there, and how it contrast with his real life experiences.

umm, bill is a well-traveled man and not someone who’s been living in a west virginia trailer park all his life.

  • Sammi

I just think its crazy that he bases his view on black behavior on a bunch of rappers….forgetting that black people are not just a bunch of rappers that use profanity! This proves the point about how powerful the images seen in hip hop culture are and how they give people especially(white) people a distorted view of our race! Yes O rielly happens to be a racist bigot but I bet the majority of white people if they experienced the same situation would atleast think along the same lines as him….sad/sad…and its white people like this that claim racism doesn’t exist and that we need to just get over it…..yea right!

“Racism still alive they just be concealing it” K.W

  • tscombo

umm, bill is a well-traveled man and not someone who’s been living in a west virginia trailer park all his life.

So him being honest about how he percieved black people and going to a Soul Food restaurant with Al Sharpton is “racist”. I know most of the people commenting didn’t hear the entire interview but still, think about the context of what the conversation was about.

  • Sam

Bill OReilly only says this because he believes he represents White America. But not all White America are racist idiots like him.

  • Anonymous3

exactly…like I said Bill is not stupid…there are plenty of Black people (anchors, etc.) at Fox so he knows good and well that we all don’t behave the same way, we don’t all like the same thinkgs and that we have layers just like any other race…but see it suited his needs to offer a backhanded racist compliment for the right wing people who listen to him….he probably felt like he was validating Blacks by saying “hey, they were dressed nice (WTF!!) and they weren’t listening to rap music…..how much more racist can you be

  • NG

    THIS IS VERY MISLEADING.

Ok people. I read this comment last night and did some research. Even though I dislike Bill O’Reilly I am defending him this time.

Bill did a radio show called “Racism is Dumb”. And during the radio show, he was saying that if a racist went to a minority (black, mexican, etc) owned restaurant, business or whatever they would see that their perceptions about an entire culture that is based on some random people they see on tv, they would realize that racism is dumb. And that you can’t judge an entire race by the few people you know or see.

SOOOOO, his actual quotes were part of the show and how he said RACIST people wouldreact if they get outside of their bubble and experience something from a different culture/minority.

I still think he is a racist though.

  • Andrew

Folks I know some of us is upset at what Bill said but we need to be careful calling for folks to be fired.

The right wing conservatives forced Rosie off of the View because they didn’t like her liberal talk and now we want to force Bill off tv.

Just remember he has a right to say what he wants to say and if Fox believes it will cause them trouble you better believe your ass that he will be off of the air.

But, remember the “Thought Police” goes both ways. We can’t call for Bill to be shut down while we steady dance to the groove of homophobic and misogynistic music and say that it is okay.

    Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Like I said, Bill is a well-traveled man with plenty of exposure to black people. he’s got tons of black colleagues.

Re-read his comments and think about it a little harder since it seems like you’re having a hard time understanding. If you still claim they’re not racist, then something is wrong with you.

  • Anonymous3

    @NG

And that you can’t judge an entire race by the few people you know or see.

the problem with your comment is that Bill is assuming that Mr. Racist only sees Rappers on TV and in the news….not correct….there a businessmen and women, congressmen, actors, athletes(who are not all trifling) Doctors…the list goes on….so his comments are racist and one sided

  • LETSbe4REAL

    This man is sooooo ridiculous!

Some one tell me, how many resturants have you seen that have ppl just cursing like that? I don’t think this man has ever been around more than 5 blacks at a time! Why would he even open his mouth to say something like that!

Is it just me, or does it sound like he’s saying any where that a large amount of black people come together we have to act like gangsters? Well how about I was suprised to go to Olive Garder and see the white people don’t complain about every single thing! Doesn’t that sound ignorant???

He is clearly closed minded, just like that ignorant comment about NAS.

PLEASE EVERYONE, DO NOT GIVE IN TO THIS MAN! Let him keep talking politics and give Blacks a rest. He truely has no idea what he is talking about!

Oh please – nothing he said was misquoted. He was speaking about his grandmother who “didn’t know any black people”, but his grandmother is not the one who went to the restaurant in Harlem – he did. And I truly believe he was really shocked to see blacks being civilized.

Please don’t forget this guy has a history of making stupid comments.

  • gemini62065

    tscombo….

I for one did hear the entire interview (several times) and no, going to our “Soul Food” (to most of us from NY the restaurant is called Sylvia’s and has been in business for over 20 years and even has food that can be purchased nationally at any store such as Pathmark) was not the issue. The issue is the Mr. O’Rielly has spend a great deal of his career criticizing a race of people that even he firmly admits that he knows nothing about! Wouldn’t any credible journalist, commentator or whatever he deems himself to be at least do research to give an unbiased opinion based on fact not supposition? And the second thing that shocks me is that Fox News who hired Mr. O’Rielly gives him a platform to discuss pertinent subjects pertaining to the african american community un-informed and oftentimes with a biased negative view.

If that is not racism then what word would like to fill in the blank to describe his stance on various issues?

  • LETSbe4REAL

    @ KLM

I disagree he said, “I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship.”

Emphasis, “I COULDN’T GET OVER THE FACT”

This means he personally believed that there is a difference between Service from White owned establishments and Black owned establishments.

He is speaking about his beliefs not what others should think.

  • KLM

    @ LETSbe4REAL

Okay…I see what you’re saying. “He couldn’t get over the fact”…which means, before he went to Sylvia’s he had the negative thoughts about black restaurants but NOW, he’s sees that he former ideas were completely wrong. Thanks LETSbe4REAL

  • tscombo

    gemini62065…

Great, lets get down to it. First of all criticizing someone of that race (rappers) is not criticizing the entire race so don’t get that twisted.Other wise you could say that he hates white people two for going after the white judges all time. Having guest on consistantly of that race in question with opposing view points doesn’t sound like racism either. It’s not racism, he was discussing a flawed view people have or had of black people openly with a black guest. Save the outrage for real racism, how can white people have a real discussion about race with black people without people being honest about their misconceptions?

  • KLM

    @ tscombo

    good thought.

  • LETSbe4REAL

Yea, I see where you’re coming from. He is relating his experience to what most White people would think and explaining why it is wrong. Thank you.

Its just upsetting to see that people really have those kind of expectations for us blacks. And I also don’t believe that this has been the revelation that will change his views on Blacks.

o’reily is a racist for sure. People see what they want to see no matter what color they are.

How is it that we can know that not all white people were/are like J Springer’s guest but most people choose to believe that all blacks are like the oversexed, thuggin scene portrayed in smut/rap videos.

  • LANSKI

    @ tscomo

    Because the “misconceptions” are ridiculous.

You’re saying to think the African American community is comprised of a bunch of uncivilized, ignorant, screaming, drug dealers; to the point you’re surprised when you see otherwise; is a misconception.

    Give me a break.

Oh I forgot; Imus thought it was okay to call those women nappy headed hoes.

You’re making excuses for racism and prejudice.

  • lacyd

Now I don’t keep up with Politics much, but I do tune into both CNN and Fox News from time to time. It really doesn’t take a genious to know that CNN is democratic and Fox News is so very, very Republican. I once heard that in the White House, the only news station they play is Fox News Channel. So my theory is that the views of Fox News and Bill O’Reilly alike are those of the white house, which subsequently houses our donkey of a president. I believe that once we get a Democrat in office, the voices of Bill O’Reily and his minions (Hannity, that dude Greta, and the other but wipes) won’t be quite as loud. Well at least I hope so.

    Exactly! Thank you.

  • AND…

This was from an interview that he was making fun of racists and how they would react if they went to a black owne establishment. Sensible people know that not all of any race is a certain way i.e. 98% of serial killers are white but I don’t go screaming for my life every time I see a white man. Why be so upset about some people stupid, invalid, and totally unjustified opinions? WE KNOW BETTER.

    I meant

  • nahnah

    1. There’s such a thing called racist misconception. And Bill’s misconceptions are racist.

    2. Ludracis has only been around for a couple of years, so to blame negative stereotypes on Ludacris is straight stoonpid.

While I refuse to listen to a lot of what’s being played today by a lot of rappers, let’s not pretend as if they’re making these things up and that they’re not merely speaking on what’s going on in this world.

Yep, they’re quite ignorant for feeding into the stereotypes and being repetitive fools, but let’s not pretend as if those things didn’t exist before the evolution of rap music.

BTW: He stay speaking on “black issues”, so the question is: how could he have those

“misconceptions” if he’s such an expert on everything black?

  • AND…

“which subsequently houses our donkey of a president”

    lmao

  • tscombo

    @LANSKI

No excuses here, the point was that it was a misconception. Believe it or not people who don’t live around or talk to black people regularly us what they see on TV or hear on the radio to form there opinions on how black establishements and communities function. The fact that someone can talk about how their experiences contrasted with real life is not racism. He started he interview talking about how his Grandmother was afraid of black people even though she never met any. A lot of people are acting like there wasn’t a progression in his thinking, which was the point. We have to hold back on that ‘racism’ stuff or we can’t have an open dialog.

  • lacyd

    @ tscombo

To answer your original question, I think that everyone is upset about Mr. O’Reily’s comments because he views blacks as some type of sub-human species that need to be studied. Kind of like he’s a scientist examining a new species. You watch nature shows? Imagine if you will a scientist, biologist, explorer, or some type…Lets just use the late Steve Irwin. Remember how he used to view the animals in their natural habitat?

“Wow, look at how the gator snagged that zebra mate…Crikey, that’s amazing.”

That’s pretty much what Bill O is doing.

“Wow, look at how that colored man is eating so very civalized. I mean, wow, that’s amazing. I’ve never seen such a thing. No fights have broken out. I guess there was no need for this bullet proof vest. And oh my, the waitress is wearing clothes. Nothing like what I’ve seen on Naas’ video. Check please. Let’s see, my bill is for 40.60, let’s see what happens when I give her this hundred dollar bill. (get’s change back). 20, 40, 50, 59; one quarter, one dime, and a nickel. INTERESTING, my exact change. I just knew that colored girl would short me. Guess I’ll leave her a tip. Four dollars will do.”

That’s my take on his whole “experiment”.

  • tscombo

    At Nah Nah,

That rap music that is “reporting” on black issues isn’t doing anything but exploiting the issues because it doesn’t make any judgements about what it is reporting. Play a Snoop rap song in church and see how elder black folk react to it. They aren’t white but they will be offending nontheless. Selling drugs and womanizing is wrong no matter how tight the beat is. Cosby tried to speak on it and got villianized as well. I wonder why?

  • gemini62065

    tscombo… not outraged…just making a point.

Yes, by all means…let’s get down to it! If you believe that Mr O’Rielly’s negative comments toward the african american community are only relevant to rappers…then it is you that has gotten things twisted…not me. His comments about rappers are the comments that mainly hit the mainstream media. Try reviewing his stance on issues that REALLY concern our community and then get back to me. And you are absolutely right…having guests that oppose a point of view is not racism. But how can you have a negative point of view about a race that you know nothing about? And then for rating attempt to dispell stereotypes that he has on many occasions agreed with on the same very program. If you don’t believe his comments that a restaurant owned and patroned by african americans would be devoid of class and distinction, I can only wonder why not?

I will say this once again…if Mr O’Rielly has never did his RESEARCH to obtain a balanced view of the african american community (meanining that we are not all rappers, thugs and the like) then what intelligble dialogue can he have on the discussion? When he mentions our community does he discuss the positive or the negative…I will leave you to answer that question…I already know the answer

  • tscombo

    @LacyD

I didn’t hear all of that from the interview. Even if he did feel like that before, he didn’t afterwards which is the point. It’s like calling a reformed racist, “a racist” anyway because of what he thought before. What’s the point of being honest about your experiences if you will be demonized for it anyway. Pulling the race card so early actually damages the possiblilites for progression.

  • Really

He always makes stupid comments. He needs to interact more with black people, so he won’t compare us to rap videos or stereotypes from tv. What was expecting them to throw the food to you at a black restaurant?

  • Anonymous3

like I said…Bill is not stupid…he works around intelligent Black news anchors, etc everyday…so to pretend that he was so in awe of Sylvias and how civilized the “Blacks” conducted themselves and how nice they dressed is completely false…don’t buy into his whole thing of simply helping his white racist viewers to see Black people in a different light…he sees Blacks in a different light everyday but choses to point out the shortcomings of a numbered few…..

This goes beyond black/white issues, it concerns just being human. The issues that Oreilly discusses are mostly politcal and cultural, the news is geared toward ‘watchdog’ tactics, getting Jessica’s law passed ect. He hasn’t assumed anything about the Black community that I couldn’t understand because it is in a debate format so you at least get to hear the other side. Camron and Dame Dash were even on before to defend their perspective. The converstation about this current issue was with another black guest that he disagrees with politically. The “rapper” thing is what got young black america up in arms because God forbid someone of another race have another opinion about someone black who is making money. Orielly was being honest about his upbringing and misconception, it’s good he put it out there. Listen to the whole interview…

And about him not making any assumptions about the african american community…hmmm

“I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship.”

If you truly do not believe that there was an assumption implied in this comment…then we have nothing else to discuss.

    Gemini62065 and Lacyd

We can agree to disagree. Let me try to sum up my perspective of this situation then. Someone who is perceived to be racist, talks about his experience and upbringin concerning black people (currently misguided rasism soon to be a misconception), goes out to eat with other black person to a Soul Food restaurant (taking a chance), has a great time (learns and then voices what he learned even though it was common knowledge by our community). So then he is labeled by his previous misconception and everything else is forgotten!?? I know we never have misconceptions about people (Oreilly) so its hard to forgive someone when they change from theirs. I see why other races walk around on eggshells around us concerning race relations but then keep their misconceptions to themselves, whats worse?

    @ tscombo

Agreed that other races have to walk around on eggshells when it comes to the black community. Which is why for the most part, I tend to be vocal when we sometimes play the race card unnecessarily. But to support my perspective, I beleive that Mr. O is feeling the heat. The presidential election is comming up and the dominating party just so happens to be democratic who happen to support the black cause a little more than the republican party. Mr. O is a puppet, he opinion seems to be changing with the wind. He could have done this a long time ago and succeeded in having both white and black viewers (not to say that he doesn’t now, but I’m willing to bet that most of his viewers are white). I don’t know how old he is, but if he was really interested in having a fair and balanced opinion on the worlds current events, he would have invested more time in supporting us, rather than demeaning us. We as the black community have a lot of hurdles to overcome when it comes to ourselves. We at times can be more racist than whites because a good deal of us see whites and automatically assume that they are racist (I call it a slave mentality). My point is, this experimental joke of his (and I call it a joke because I don’t believe he was genuine) was just a big ratings ploy. He’s a smart man, he knew the back lash he would recieve. He’s using us for the amusement of his viewers. Sorry, but I don’t agree with that.

LacyD, this event didn’t happen recently, he just discussed it recently. Why would he feel the heat when his ratings are continuing to rise and he had two best selling books? Democrate or Republican in the Whitehouse won’t affect that. The issues that he covers are cultural which effect all of us one way or another, your views of him should have more substance. The hurdles we have to overcome are different from other races and all races have their hurdles but trying to understand the big picture helps everyone and takes the emotion out of.

  • tscombo

  • lacyd

    @ tscombo

I’m not saying his ratings are down. And I’ve tried to watch Mr. O from time to time, but the fact that he’s a racist is not the only reason why I don’t care for him too much. I don’t agree with his opinion on the war in Iraq, his view point on crime when he discusses it. He often comes across as a know it all. He sometimes appears to insult the victims when discussing issues that have them (kind of like telling them why would you put yourself in that position). I literally cannot watch him. He makes my stomach hurt. He’s bad for my health. And for him to call his opinion fair and balanced, he’s so onesided it’s not even funny. Whatever his opinion is is the golden rule, so I don’t care to entertain him, or contribute to his high ratings. If he wins in the Neilson ratings, it won’t be because of me. So yes, my views on him do have substance, I don’t like him at all, and I’ve tried. The ONLY thing i would ever agree with him on is his standpoint on gay marriage, that’s it.

SO DON’T ACT LIKE THIS MAN SAID SOMETHING THAT HAD NO HINT OF TRUTH IN IT. EVENTHOUGH I DON’T AGREE WITH HIS ATTACK ON NAS, HE DID SAY SOMETHING THAT RINGS TRUE TO THOSE OF US WILLING TO ADMIT THE TRUTH.

    Marley -

You are indeed on the wrong thread. Since you broke your promise of no longer responding to me, why don’t you go back to the other thread and answer the legitimate questions I asked you?

  • Marley

    Dear NahNah,

Since I don’t know or care about you (beyond that of a normal human being)I cannot break a promise to you. I answered your questions, you choose to ignore my responses as they were not to your liking. You then proclaimed that you “rest your case” or some nonsense like that. That was laughable. Merely saying the last word does not mean you have been sucessful in putting forth your “case.”

Have you ever thought that maybe you are a nasty agressive person and people don’t want to deal with you? Well you should entertain that possiblity in your real life as well.

Then again, you are not my kind of people.

    No suprise there.

Oh,BTW, I go to WHATEVER thread I want to go to and WHEN.

You may respond. You have my permission, but I am done with you. At least for today.

PS…So what about it. You and Bill OReilly together. CrazyOREilly and NastyNAHNAH all wrapped up together. You would be perfect together. lol

You responded by saying “yes there is poverty in the caribbean”, which means you did not answer the question, since the question was “why is there so much poverty in Jamaica” and why are Jamaicans killing each other every day and so many Jamaican women selling themselves to American and European tourists for a few bucks.

It’s pretty evident that you were unable to answer because the answer was not favorable to your close-minded and bigoted beliefs.

    Have a nice life, dear.
