Timbaland Says Jay-Z Just Raps For Fun

Timbaland sheds his thoughts on Joey Camel and his upcoming album:
“He wants me to do the next single. He just does it for fun. We talked about [his next album]. He says it’s just a hobby, ain’t nothing else to do. When a person tells you that, what you supposed to say? ‘You crazy’? He said, ‘I don’t wait for nothing. I’m there. I’m doing it for the love of music.’ What am I supposed to say? ‘You wack for doing it’? … Some people think Jay fell off. Or he’s just over people’s head. I think that’s what it is. That’s another thing: It could hurt him or it could make him be not the legend he is. That’s the only thing I’m scared of for my friend.”
Everyone knows he’s a business dude and has mucho paper, but shit if he’s just rapping for fun and it’s a “hobby”, he should just stick to making music in his basement. Let the cats that are out there struggling and on their grind trying to make it get a chance to shine. That’s just a little food for thought.

Of course it’s a hobby — he doesn’t NEED the money. And, shouldn’t it be fun? I mean, it’s just RAPPING. It’s not like struggling rappers are out building houses for Katrina or heavily advocating for “the struggle”. It’s just rapping. Should be fun for anyone who spits.

I think the album is gonna be wack. The single is trash but for once bossip has said something i could agree with. Jay-Z you run a label. Go find some new talent and run def jam properly. That should occupy your time.
I love Jay, and I continue to listen to him, even if the CD isn’t a hit, like “Kingdom Come”. That’s good that he still has the love for music, but I feel the point that it would be cool if he put new up and comers on. I’m not sayin every Tom, Pookie, and Joe, but just a select few. If Puff hadn’t made reality TV a mockery with all his failed “Making The Bands”, then I would suggest something like that. To help out others with the same love of music, who have that same hunger he did when “Reasonable Doubt” came out, would show a great level of generosity..

I totally disagree with the notion that if an “artist is good he will shine”. Don’t you know how the music BIDNESS works homie? The urban music business is built on the foundation of being hooked up based on the the circles you spin in.

When your hobbies have the potential to go platinum you have to release them. What I don’t understand is why he wrote an entire album called American Gangster, based on the movie American Gangster and being released around the same time as American Gangster when it is not the official soundtrack? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. Is the official soundtrack going to be called American Gangster too? I think he’s wrong for that.

However, Tim, who is a good producer, is still in the game, still working hard, and still producing hits. So in Tim’s eyes, if Jay is just rapping for fun, Tim probably feels like, ‘this dude wasting my time’.

What’s wrong with Jay rapping as a hobby? He already put in years grindin, and now not only is he a legend, but a mogul. Isn’t every successful, rich rapper out there doing it for fun really?
