Rihanna Felt ‘Concerned’ For Chris Brown After Assault News Got Out

Rih-Rih opens up to Oprah and tells her that despite the fact that he had just busted her lip and put her forehead on even more swole, she was still worried about beat em’ down Breezy once word of their altercation made the news.

Rihanna tearfully opens up to Oprah Winfrey about the night that forever changed the course of the conversation around her career. In the interview, set to air Sunday on OWN, Rihanna addresses her feelings about the night Chris Brown assaulted her in 2009.

In the midst of the media circus and the fallout from the assault, Rihanna said Brown’s emotional safety was still on her mind.

“I felt protective,” she admits. “I felt like, ‘The only person they hate right now is him.’ It was a weird, confusing space to be in. Because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help, and who’s going to help him? Nobody’s going to say he needs help. Everybody’s going to say he’s a monster without looking at the source, and I was more concerned about him.”

There’s a lot of things to feel after you get a beat down, but ‘concerned’ and ‘protective’ aren’t quite the feelings that come to mind….
