Do you believe this lady????
Omaha police said they suspect that a grandmother spray-painted a hate message on a garage door in northwest Omaha, but she is denying the accusation. “I’m not prejudiced, never have been,” said 78-year-old Martha Dewitt. “I worked with a lot of black people when I worked for the schools, for 24 years.”
Police cited Dewitt and said they have enough evidence to prove she was the one who sprayed a hateful political message near 96th and Fort streets two weeks ago. Police issued a misdemeanor citation Thursday for destruction of property. Someone spray-painted a hateful message on a garage door to attack the support of congressional candidate John Ewing.
“I don’t know him personally, but I know who he is,” Dewitt said. “I have nothing against him, or any other black person.” Dewitt said she is usually in bed by 10 p.m. but police said the crime was committed overnight. Police said the crime involved a painted message and a white envelope with a note inside.
“I even told the officer, I said, ‘God, I’m 78 years old, I’m not a teenager anymore going out and doing stuff at night. I’m not,'” Dewitt said.
Police said they have a partial match to the license plate number off of Dewitt’s CRV, and damage to the vehicle is consistent with hitting a mailbox as it left the crime scene.
“There’s no mailbox around her that’s that low,” she said. “If I hit a mailbox, it would take my mirror off.”
Omaha police said they are looking for more witnesses. Dewitt, a retired Omaha public schools worker with a bad knee, said she just wants the real culprit to come forward.
SMH. Poor thang….
