SCRAM JONES (@SCRAMJONES) R.I.P. Chris Lighty – thats just crazy – #1 Hip Hop Manager
Sadder is still is that Chris’ last tweet was an “R.I.P.” to hip-hop legend Scott La Rock whose death came on August 27, 1987, just three days ago.
Although there are not many details available at this time, Bossip sources are saying that Lighty’s death is the result of a suicide.
The music industry is still reeling from the affects of watching one of it’s most powerful and celebrated leaders, Shakir Stewart, take his life back in 2008. There is always immense pressure to be “grinding” and be someone who believes in “#nosleep”, but the fact of the matter is that we are still humans. Beyond any title, money, accolades, etc, we are all people who go through things that some may never know of.
It’s never as bad as it seems, and it can ALWAYS get better.
Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after he shot himself during an argument with his ex-wife inside his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News.
Lighty, 44 — a longtime manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — put a gun to his head and fired after a spat with his former wife, Veronica, inside the South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., police sources said.
Law enforcement sources said Lighty — who divorced his wife last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.
R.I.P. to the Lighty family, friends, and industry peers. Chris Lighty will most DEFINITELY be missed.
