I think he is correct in his assesment of racial relations but in his paticular case he is always shown with a caucasian or some type of mixed girlfriend. Once people get out of high school, usually their horizons expand if they venture outside of their neighborhood. Why do you put a financial/education level on finding love? Does the average NBA, NFL star look for equal salary level when finding a mate, usually not. Would you with your high education marry a “wealthy” black athletes based on his education level? People, especially black people, are usually at different socioeconomic levels, but I think it is foolish to base one’s future on education level or wealth. Each of those accomplishments can be attained together.

Some people believe that if you date a person from another race you are somehow denying who you are. They believe that dating someone with a different skin color somehow makes you a self-hater, loathing that which makes you yourself. They believe that it’s an insult to your parents, ancestors, heritage and community. I find this view much more telling about the people who say this than about those who do find a physical, spiritual, mental and emotional connection with someone who looks different than themselves

There is nothing wrong w/ dating outside one’s own race; however, I do believe that at the point where a person will ONLY date outside his/her race, there is some self-loathing going on. Black women just need to wake up and accept the fact that black men are not checking for us, and stop waiting around for brothers to appreciate the loyalty of black women. Unfortunately, brothers have bought into the media hype that black women are the least desirable women in the world, but let’s be clear about one thing: most sisters who have routine contact with non-black men HAVE BEEN hit on by men other races. Please believe it. I have had white, latino and even ASIAN men try to holler at me. I am not a light-bright sister, nor am I a rail-thin Ciara-type. The stereotype that no men want black women is just plain FALSE!

I have been happily married to a bi-racial man for 12 years now who loves and respects me. I married him after EXCLUSIVELY dating black from the U.S. and Africa. Our values and temperaments just meshed. I agree that race should not matter, but the problem comes in when people won’t even CONSIDER finding a long-term mate within their own race. THAT is self-hate, and unfortunately, there are a lot of brothers who really do hate being black, and do not want to bear beautiful dark-skinned, nappy-headed babies.

In my opinion people should be responsible for the thoughts they keep and the philosophies they subscribe to and love whomever they’d like. Mental, physical and spiritual health rank higher in importance than the race of person somebody decides to date. In fact scientists have discovered that only 2 percent of our genes are ultimately responsible for the visible differences such as skin color. That wasn’t for just black women, I meant it for all women because thats how I date. one in every four adults has Herpes many of whom don’t realize it. STDs don’t have racism. OK, let me break this down to you, since statistics wasn’t offered at your school. Of course there are other blacks at those schools. We made up 5% of the population at my school. So let’s say our undergraduate enrollment was 6,000. That means we made up 300 people. So that leaves roughly 150 people for me to date out of #3,000 (half of 6,000).

Given how hard it is to find a true love, how F-ing stupid is it to cut out the other 2850 people at your college? Doesn’t that make it harder?

It’s a product of upbringing more than anything, and upbringing changes with each generation. Our parents lived in a time where it was illegal for different races to marry. They also grew up in a time where race didnt mix on a community level so people werent exposed to other cultures that thier own. Today, we are moving more and more towards a multicultural society. I grew up around all types of people so it’s no big deal for me to date whomever I’d like black or white.

There is so much that I agree with the above statements, except that it was not directed to both sexes. For me the perfect world would be all Black Men & Woman restricting their love and sex life to people of their own race, but I guess that will never ever happen. You’re drawn to whom you’re drawn to and you love who you love. You should be drawn and attracted to someone based on the content of their character. What I DO think is a bit “suspect” is when a person seems to date only ONE particular race of people. For example… black men who seem to date an endless string of blonde haired, blue eyed Barbie doll type white women (to clarify I don’t feel Russell falls into this category because he’s dating more than one type). I do think these men in particular have something to prove or something within from which they are trying to escape.

Also, I don’t like to hear a black woman say “I don’t date black men” or black men say the same about black women. I’m not sure I would classify that as self hating… but I would definitely classify it as small-minded stereo typing. There are plenty of people we can classify as losers in all categories of race, so you shouldn’t exclude a whole race of people based on pre-conceived notions.

I don’t get the blatant racism by some of the people of the people on this board, but even more disturbing and disgusting is the hypcriscy shown by many of these same people. All we have ever asked for is to not be judged for our skin color, but the instead the quality of our thoughts and the our own individual attributes. However, when many of you see a couple who are willing to do this and simply love each other for those things regardless of all the inherent racism still in this country, many of your turn into racist yourselves, calling all kinds of names that our ancestors fought for years to disperse of. On top of that, you want to act like you are doing it for a noble purpose? No, you are not. If you can’t see something beautiful in a two people being able to respect each other enough to look past racial barriers that you obviously hold, then you are nothing more than a pathetic individual who is holding back this country and the world to be quite honest with you.

The thing that makes it worse, is many of your people filled with hate were the same people thumping your chest for our president-elect Barack Obama just one month ago. Although his father wasn’t around, he still shows that whether you are all black or the product of an interracial relatioship, all that matters is how you are raised and that all sides of the aisle are creeping towards becoming one, as I believe things are supposed to be. Are you not tired of hating a whole group of people simply because they are lighter or darker than yourself. In conclusion, all I can say is, this is a free country, and you are well entitled to hold all the hate you want in your heart, but you are missing out on meeting a lot of people very worthy of your time and conversation. I’ve had a similar experience, too. Only the fine white med-student was with a less attractive, thick-built latino (probably Mexican) woman. My classmates let their feelings OUT. They never directly said anything about her race, but I’m quite sure that had something to do with it.

I think Russ is correct to a certain extent. However, it is completely naive to believe or imply that none of the folks who date interracially do so as a result of self hatred and resentment or even anger over past relationships with those of the same race. While Russ may honestly be of the mind that he is just spending time with someone he enjoys, there are plenty of other people who have told themselves that anything but what they are is better. I’m in an interracial relationship, my mans black and i’m south asian, but at the same time i cant help but get PISSED when i see any man of an ethnic minority with a white girl. Is she ever gonna understand anything about you, your family, upbringing, lifestyle, choices, psychology, experiences? I agree that it’s because white girls are submissive (yes, as are many south asian girls). If my man had a pattern of being with this typa chick i wouldn’t have even looked at him twice. i’d see a mosoginistic egotistical male who wants a passive ‘girl’ who will do whatever she can not to lose him. These kinda me can’t handle strong, fiery, cultured WOMEN. jus my opinion!

It’s the same in the UK too. The majority of black men date white girls. it’s the norm. Most of our footballers ( soccer players) date or are married to white girls. They are mostly glamour models.

To be honest it doesn’t really bother me if they are not attracted to me cos there are a lot of men out there who are . Who cares? It’s there loss.

Whatever your reason is for dating outside of your race we can only hope that you teach your children not to follow in your steps. Racial equality is a very big issue in America and always will be.

I guess the sad thing is that when one of our brothas gets a bit of paper they forget that these same dark skin women that were good enough to chase when you were broke and had nothing to bring to the table are still here.

They did not jump off the face of the earth nor did they just disappear. Instead you chose to act as if they do not exist. I know you kick yourself and hate yourself a lil bit more everyday because your kids have color. We can only pray that they do not grow up with a complex.

Between you and the pales and Kimora with Mr. Midnight those poor girls will probably end up with purple people eaters.

Prime example of trashy white girls. Out of all the people writing on this blog who claim to be White females, not a one sounds the least bit intelligent. When I date out of my race, I try to get better. Clearly Black men missed that point. And is why I will stick to it, the nastier and/or fatter the White girl, the more Black men she will attract.

The only successful White woman I know who does not look like straight trash that is with a Black man is Heidi Klum. The rest get the nastiest trash they can find.

I can’t take anyone serious who ONLY dates out of their race, White, Black, male or female. If a White man who only dated Black women tried to talk to me, I would decline. I find you a disgrace to your race, and I know that you have mental issues.
