Russell Simmons decided to let some of you people out there who disagree with black men dipping their choco stick into the vanilla dip know how he feels:

I am of the view as a philanthropist and businessman that all press is good if it can help me as a brand or bring in more money to my five charities-especially in this time of economic crisis when every charity is struggling to keep afloat.    However,  I do find this blatent racism offensive.  Just last week I was out with my friend Veronica Verikova and the next day had to read about “uncle Russell’s brand new blonde bust down”. She doesn’t deserve that, nobody does! And yes, it is offensive.

Some people believe that if you date a person from another race you are somehow denying who you are. They believe that dating someone with a different skin color somehow  makes you a self-hater, loathing that which makes you yourself.  They believe that it’s an insult to your parents,  ancestors, heritage and community.  I find this view much more telling about the people who say this than about those who do find a physical, spiritual, mental and emotional connection with someone who looks different than themselves.

What do Bossipers think about the writings of BDR? That 5 percenter game he is spitting is tight, and he does read your comments, so let’s get on with the get on and start discussing this ‘ish.

Who cares who Russ is in love with? Can’t we wish for his happiness? Especially after Kimora? SMH

  • wordtobigbird

…and third but in response to the article:

I don’t care who you date. Shoot for happiness not contentment.

  • Talley-B (call me Steel)

  • Mike

I just want to know why he opened her top? Hes giving the wrong impression.

  • Aunt Viv

And I partly agree with what he’s saying. Do what (or whom) makes you happy, but there are some self-haters and loathers, and those are the ones I have a problem with.

  • qc704

so basically this pic DOES NOT HELP his argument.
why on earth is pullin on her bikini top..

it looks like he’s sayin,”for real, foreal..they’re tha small…man, i got money we can fix that!”

  • phillygirl

I think he is correct in his assesment of racial relations but in his paticular case he is always shown with a caucasian or some type of mixed girlfriend. That does send out a message that he does not particarly care for women of african-american descent. I can never tell what race his girlfriends are. If he appreciates all people I’d like to see him with a beautiful dark African woman not just Asian and other races

  • indigogg

HE IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. AS AN EXAMPLE, OUR PRESIDENT-ELECT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE AND RESULT OF AN INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIP, FAILED OR NOT. SOME PEOPLE NEED TO EMBRACE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE “FREE”.

I’m not opposed to dating people of a different race. I am bothered though that men who are wealthy seem to only prefer women of other races. It feels like once they get to a certain status level, its no longer cool to date someone that is a “sista”. I have beautiful and successful Michelle Obama looking friends that just cant find a man on their level and it seems to be because all the men on their level want something other. I’m fair and I have the highest level of education, so I see it from both angles. However, I do think its unconscious self loathing for some. Maybe Michelle will help brothas see that dating and marrying someone that looks like you is cool. By the way for all of you other specific dating brothers I’ve always wanted to ask the question,do you think those beautiful others would be with you if you were just the average Joe? Get sick or lose your wealth and you will quickly find out the answer is probably, NO.

“And I partly agree with what he’s saying. Do what (or whom) makes you happy, but there are some self-haters and loathers, and those are the ones I have a problem with.”

And BDR is old enough to be well aware of this. . .

I prefer Kimora to him any day of the week. I’ve never been a big fan of his, and it has nothing to do with his dating choices.
