It’s going to be more commonplace to see women of color in these fashion magazines now that the Obama’s have broken that glass ceiling. There effect on American culture will be profound. Expect to see more black actors in the future–working–as well.

The ironic thing is, as far as beauty goes, a lot of the high-minded/fashion/couture looks borrow heavily from black culture. Which is no surprise given how much of our community is appropriated, but the big problem I see is how we perceive such things. Black women have been sporting multi-hued, intricately designed hair styles for years. When the white people do it its avant-guarde and cutting edge, but when we do it, it’s seen as ghetto.

Not only do we have to change mainstream perceptions we have to change our own.

What happened? Both Ciara and Beyonce never watched America’s Next Top Model? In both photo shoots, they look both looked DEAD in the face. Like Tyra tells the other girls, “Smile with your eyes” but it’s obvious a cute face and body, don’t make a model. I like CiCi but like I said before just because you’re a nice looking sistah doesn’t mean you can do everything well. Grace Jones wasn’t “cute” by a lot of standards, but she was one HELL of a model cause she knew the CRAFT!

Any of you ever look at some of the photo shoots in Vogue, these type of photos are not uncommon.

Unfortuantely Ciara doesn’t exude the same statuesque type class Rhianna has when doing high fashion modeling.

Ciara’s like one of the homies/ chicks round the way with latest hip hop fashions. SHe needs to stick 2 Roca Wear campaigns.

The fur around her neck and the space ships around her head coupled with the Wanda Sykes bird nose looks more like she had an affair with Big Bird than high fashion.

wow…..i am reading some of these comments and LMFAO…..wow. i agree with one comment made. it say that just because you are pretty doesn’t mean you can do modeling. ciara is attractive. she had stated that she wanted to be a supermodel. i have nothing against her trying all these different looks, but she needs to get her own image. the image i liked was when she first came out. there was no one like her. she had her own lane. but she stated in so many words that she was maturing and evolving. she wanted the change. change is alright but find a image that no one else has. she even had her own swag, now it seems like she is just like the rest. the problem with that is since there are quite a few of them with that image, it is hard for her fix in. she is constantly being compared and accused of trying to be like rhi rhi , beyonce, etc. it looks like she is copying others styles. she isn’t tho, she just doesn’t seem to fit in. she has the determination to make it so i do believe she will become that supermodel she desires to be……i just am not a fan of her singing
