Diddy’s “A Raisin in the Sun” Nominated for a Golden Globe

Diddy has done it big with “A Raisin in the Sun”:
The all-star, 2008 TV adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic A Raisin in the Sun was nominated by the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture.
The movie gained early buzz through positive reviews of its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. The momentum attracted ABC, who aired the movie to an audience of over 12 million viewers during its first week run this past February.
Directed by Kenny Leon, the adaption featured a diverse cast of young and veteran stars such as Phylicia Rashad, Sanaa Lathan, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Audra McDonald, Sean Patrick Thomas and Sanaa Lathan. Rashad’s memorable performance as Lena earned her an Emmy nod for Outstanding Lead Actress.
The film also received an Emmy nomination for Best Motion Picture.
Sean “Diddy” Combs, who also received praise for his rendition of Walter Lee Younger, expressed his personal accomplishment at seeing the 2004 revival play evolve into one of the best TV movies of 2008. “I really didn’t think it could get any better,” Combs told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “First, an Emmy nomination and now a Golden Globe…this is an incredible honor. A dream come true.”
The 2008 Golden Globes will air January 11, 2009 at 8Pm on NBC.
Damn, you can say what you want about this Diddy character, but the fella knows what he is doing. What do Bossipers think about this nomination?

The cast was phenominal, this is not Diddy’s A Raisin in the Sun..Phylica Rashad, Sanaa Lathan, Audra Mcdonald are seasoned actresses and most likely carried the play

I very much respect this all star cast including Diddy taking a leap of faith and working at Broadway which I’m sure was not his comfort zone. I’m sure Philicia Rashad and others were fine actresses. Diddy is the hardest working man in show biz. I so admire his work ethic and tenacity.

Okay I was an African African studies major, I read the play in school, saw the original with Sydney P- and let me say this Sean Combs is no Sydney. However the rest of the cast made it tolerable, but he was really bad, his emotions seemed forced, his actions outside of the time period, he never tapped into the character. I am sorry I do not care how much to like Sean Combs his acting abilities are grossly underdeveloped. For those who haven’t seen it please see the original with Sydney P- before you see the new adaptation. I will say Audrey, Sanaa, and Mrs F. Raashad are true thesbians and deserve the nomination.

I saw the original as well as read the play. Diddy was crappy in it to be honest. Phylicia Rashad carried the play and Sanaa added to it along with the other actress. Anyways I hope they win.

Puffy was not the shinning star in the movie. Phylica Rashad was outstanding. I found myself laughting a Puffy. He sucks. Thank goodness he was part of an excellent cast or is little no talent acting career would be OVERZ!!

@ Mrs. Rance I co-sign 100% the whole cast was Excellent excluding Diddy and that speaks volumes to their work because they carried this movie to the finish line. Personally I thought Phylisha(sp)Rashad was Amazing!!

Saw the original and Sidney’s the MAN! I believe that’s why Sean had no chance and I won’t even go there about his acting or lack thereof because you described it SO well! Hell it would have been tough for any real actor to come behind Sidney so why would Silly Sean think he could do it is beyond me…….;p As I said before the whole cast was remarkable but Phylsha Rashasd did her thing….

I gotta cosign with everybody else. Lorrain Hansberry’s play is a cl*****ic. Poiter’s portrayal was the yardstick. I don’t care what critics say…that was his defining role IMHO. Danny Glover covered it in the late 80’s. He came close… not quite on par with the original…but really close. Now Diddy thinks that he is on par with two verteran and very good actors? This nomination HAS to be for the cast. Didn’t he front the money to produce this one? I think that’s why it is labelled “Diddy’s A Raisin in the Sun”.

I guess money can buy you anything. I think everyone else did a great job, but Puffy…..the Celebrity Snitch told the truth on the TMJS and Puffy called in the next day to phone check them…Don’t get it twisted both Puffy and Beyonce know how to pimp media..but they should follow Madonna and let that acting thing go…it really detracts from an otherwise great film…

I really hope this win, just for Phylisa(sp?) Rashad to get her due. I think Phylicia, Sanaa, and Audra made this movie. Walter Lee could have been casted by anybody other than Diddy, and they would have done a better job.

Are you serious? Diddy did nothing but look at the camera the whole movie. In fact, I refuse to go on about his non-acting abilities. He should be happy he was able to buy his way into a phenominal movie with an equally phenominal cast. Congratulations to Phylicia Rashad, Sanaa Lathan, Audra McDonald, and Sean Patrick Thomas.
I loved the movie. However, Diddy’s performance did not make this movie. It was Phylicia, Sanaa, Audra, and that little boy. Diddy was never nominated for any awards for this movie. However, I felt Sanaa was robbed on this movie when it came to the awards. She should have gotten a Tony or something.

But all disses aside. I watched this and the original and I must admit that they did a great job with it. Diddy got on my nerves but I think that’s just cuz he is a nerve biter. But Ms. Sanaa, Ms. Rashad and everyone else did a wonderful job.
It is good to know that “work” with meaning still has fans out there. I wish them all the best of luck cuz they got my vote.
