Silly rabbit, that ish “Tastes Grrrreat!” for tigers… not monkeys! A California woman had to learn the hard way that some animals don’t want to be domesticated!
A monkey kept illegally as a pet has been quarantined after she bit the hand that fed her – Frosted Flakes and juice.
Authorities seized the Javan macaque, named Jennaeve, after she sunk her teeth into a Paso Robles, Calif. woman several times, The Tribune reported.
The 22-year-old primate that may belong to the woman’s boyfriend was kept in a dog kennel inside of the pair’s trailer and fed a diet of the sugary cereal and juice – a diet that has made the monkey obese.
The San Luis Obispo County division of Animal Services learned of the illegal pet in late August when the unidentified woman sought medical attention for several serious bite wounds on her arm and hand.
It was not the first time the monkey had bit her, officials said.
“This kind of animal is never meant to be kept domestically,” Animal Services manager Eric Anderson told the Orlando Sentinel, explaining that macaques are capable of dog-like bites.
“And that is entirely the wrong kind of diet,” he added.
The California Department of Fish and Game is currently investigating the incident, and the owner faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of unlawful possession of a restricted species, according to The Tribune.
The macaque is being quarantined for a 60-day period at the animal rescue program Zoo to You in Paso Robles.
David Jackson, director of Zoo To You, said that the macaque is doing well after finally receiving proper treatment.
“Like anybody, she is a little overwhelmed being in a new place surrounded by new people,” Jackson said. “But she is getting the proper diet of fruits, vegetables and monkey chow, sunlight, room to roam and a place to hide and climb.”
Poor thang! And we’re talking about the monkey, not the woman. SMH.
