Notoriously Fine (Bossip Film Review)

The non-aging diva before you is Angela Bassett at a recent “Notorious” press junket in NYC, showing off how she’s still kept up her Anna Mae Bullock arms and legs. Bossip was exclusively invited to a pre-screening of the film which hits theaters in Jan.

Here’s what we thought of “Notorious”
The film is set in Brooklyn, NY and has an authentic feel. Angela Bassett plays Big’s mother, an immigrant from Jamaica. Although Bassett’s performance was outstanding, she had no accent at all, which took a little away from her overall character. Anthony Mackie who plays Tupac came across as more of a loud mouth, bull-headed, boisterous character, than the actual embodiment of Pac’. Derek Luke was able to successfully capture the hustler spirit of Puffy. Jamal Woolard aka Gravy, is very believable in the role of Notorious B.I.G. After just one scene, you no longer worry if he is going to be able to pull it off. He IS B.I.G. On to Lil Kim….after viewing the film, we understand why Lil Kim probably doesn’t want to be associated with the production. Naturi Naughton’s portrayal of her is that of a “freak that f*cks for tracks.” She is nude for almost half of her scenes and her infamous sex scene with Biggie is raw and explicit. The story keeps you engrossed and there is lots of eye candy for the fellas, including the scantily-clad extras being paraded around in the countless party scene. Overall, it was a pretty good film and worth your ten bucks.

This woman is so talented. I love her work and will always remember how she caught a beat-down like Rodney King in that movie STRANGE DAYS. A lot of people slept on that movie, but that ***** was deep.

Love Angela B*****ett. She looks Beautiful and I saw her in person in NYC and she was so kind and down to Earth as people were shouting out her name. She’s an amazing actress and of course doesn’t get the recognition she deserves because she’d rather not do naked scenes. So sad that a well respected woman has yet gotten an oscar.
Im happy that my girl is getting some shine! I have always like this woman work she can act her ***** off! But everytime you hear about beautiful black actresses in hollywood its always the same ole tired halle berry et al. As tho she is the ONLY blk actress around. Angela and Courtney must have a great sex life being that that keeps you young too. Can’t wait to see this movie. I wonder why Angela’s playing Biggie’s mom but without the accent. I wonder who’s playing Faith Evans.
I bet she’d kill that role as Eartha Kitt. Eartha Kitt had it going on back in the day and her role as Catwoman was highly controversial, but she did it and made everyone respect her for it.
I loved her in Strange Days. Especially the scene where the police did a Rodney King on her. No one takes an ***** kicking like Angela B*****ett. She brings certain nuances to her scenes when she’s getting physically abused. I’ll never forget that scene in What’s Love Got To Do With It, where Lawrence Fishburn’s Ike Backhanded her, dragged and bent her over that recording counsole and sodomized her. The brilliance in that scene, was how Angela was able bring a subtle sense of eroticism while being raped. A sterling example of true animalistic black on black love. She’s one of the good ones.

I am not a fan of Angela B*****ett or her husband Courtney Vance. However,she is aging well and deserves to have more roles in film. She has earned that right because of the quality of her performances.
*****ody could have played Dorothy Dandridge but Halle Berry. She understood clearly the emotional hell Dandridge was experiencing through her career. And Halle NAILED it. She was so impressive that she was awarded an Emmy for the role. And it’s the same age ole hate that’s going on, as evidenced by this board, between darker skinned blacks and their lighter skin counterparts (No disrespect – yeah, right) but if you can’t even put aside that self-destructive bile to see the value in Halle’s performance then I feel that’s quite unfortunate. The proof is in the pudding and Halle owned that role. It was a pivotal performance in her career as it elevated her from an also-ran in movie’s like ‘Strictly Business’ and ‘Boomerang’ to her starring role in ‘Monster’s Ball’ where she shone even more brilliantly and became the first black woman to win an Oscar as the star of a major motion picture. But you would rather hate on her because that’s what you’re comfortable doing. It’s too bad. But good luck with that.
