BeyBey, Kelly and Michelle may not want to reunite, but Mathew Knowles is plotting the return of Destiny’s Child anyway.
Destiny’s Child are set to release a new album, sort of.
“Playlist,” a greatest hits collection from the mega-selling girl group, will be issued in October to coincide with the 15-year anniversary of the trio’s first No. 1 hit, “No, No, No Part 2.”
Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams went on to focus on solo careers following 2004’s “Destiny Fulfilled.” Though they are routinely asked about the possibility of a reunion, Beyoncé is busy meeting the president and being Beyoncé, Rowland is prepping her fourth solo record and Williams juggles a theater career with a planned return to gospel music.
Earlier this year Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father and manager of the group, told Huffington Post that he planned on issuing two records with previously unreleased material in the fall, and he hopes the girls will eventually consider a reunion tour (he no longer manages the three girls individually).
“It takes a year of planning to do these tours, but first it starts with the artist wanting to do it. And I think the ladies are still working happily in their solo careers,” he said. “The hardest thing would be choosing which songs they’re going to do, because we would want to mix it up with solo hits and Destiny’s Child hits. We would have to throw away some number ones from off the set list,” he added with a laugh.
“Playlist,” sadly, won’t feature any goodies that a fan of the sassy pop-R&B group didn’t already own. The 14-track set covers largely the same ground as their 2005 greatest hits compilation, “#1’s.” Signature tunes such as “Say My Name,” “Independent Women, Part 1” “Survivor” and “Bootylicious” are all here, as are songs from their final disc including “Girl,” “Soldier” and “Lose My Breath.” Deeper cuts such as “So Good” and “Illusion” are also included.
“Playlist” will hit stores Oct. 9 through Music World/Columbia/Legacy Recordings.
We can think of a few songs they didn’t mention that need to be on that project — “Cater 2 U” for example and “Emotions.” Which of your favorite Destiny’s Child hits do you want to be included on “Playlist”?
